22.01.2022 How much are Olympic Gold Medals worth? In reality Olympic Gold medals are likely worth about $600 according to Nasdaq due to the fact that the gold medal is actually made of mostly silver. However, the real value is measured by who has won it. Let us look at some previous Olympian Gold Medal winners who have sold their medals. Wladimir Klitschko, Ukraine, Boxing 1996... Klitschko auctioned his medal for The Klitschko Brothers Foundation for one million dollars. The bidder was a mysterious benefactor who immediately returned the medal to the man who earned it. Mark Wells, USA, Ice Hockey 1980 Wells sold his medal to a private collector who in turn sold it through an auction house for $310,700 in 2010. Michael Diamond, Australia, Trap Shooting 2000 The medal that Diamond won for trap shooting at the 2000 Sydney Games was bought for $72,000 by fencer Richard Oldcorn who competed for Great Britain at four Olympics but never won his own gold. Otylia Jedrzejczak, Poland, Swimming, 2004 Her medal from the 200m butterfly went for more than $80,000 and benefited a Polish charity that helps kids with leukaemia. Anthony Ervin, USA, Swimming 2000 Despite his success, Ervin retired from the sport in 2003 at the age of 22, saying that he "needed to kind of figure out my own life. He put his gold medal on eBay in 2004, donating the $17,101 it earned to victims of the Indian Ocean. So are Gold Medals easy to come by? Definitely not but they do appear from time to time so dont give up if youre keen to own one.

18.01.2022 How to Spot a Forgery Over the next few weeks we will be posting tips on how forgeries may be spotted. The first tip below... Firstly you will need an authentic signature of the subject. ... If you dont already have one, sometimes they can be found online. Make sure you choose one that comes from a direct licensed or official signing. Companies such as Upper Deck Authenticated and Icons UK only do direct signings. Turn the signature upside down. This is a excellent way to compare a signature as your mind isnt reading it. You can look objectively for tell-tale signs and slight differences between the two which can reveal if it could be possibly fake. The Michael Jordan signatures shown here are of an authentic exemplar on top and one that is not below it. Note the flow of the lines.

13.01.2022 Weve recently been asked what was the most expensive item of boxing memorabilia sold? Research shows Muhammad Ali boxing gloves from the 1965 Floyd Patterson bout in Las Vegas were sold for $1.1 Million. It was Alis second championship fight. The fight lasted a lengthy 12 rounds and even though Patterson was knocked down in the sixth round, he stubbornly refused to relent, and Ali spent the rest of the match taunting his opponent. Many believe that Ali was upset because of earlier taunts delivered by Patterson so he prolonged the fight not delivering the knockout punch until the 12th round.

13.01.2022 INSTANT OPINION Have an expert at the AMA provide a quick review of a signature(s) to give an opinion on whether the signature is likely to pass full authentication or unlikely to pass. Give yourself peace of mind even when the item has not been authenticated by the AMA. https://www.amaonline.com.au/product/instant-opinion/

10.01.2022 A Christchurch man is selling some classic McDonalds playground memorabilia. Goff Graham told Seven Sharp in New Zealand he does a lot of work for McDonalds and when they needed somewhere to store the retro pieces he was happy to offer. They had nowhere to store them, so I stored them at work, he said. This was just over 20 years ago and Mr Graham has since installed them in his grandkids backyard for them to enjoy.... However, now they have outgrown the coveted playground pieces so he is selling them on.

07.01.2022 What is Provenance? Most people start with the idea that an autograph is authentic and only look further if they are suspicious. This is backwards. You should begin with the premise that an autograph is not authentic and make it prove itself. In assessing this proof, its important to disregard representations of sellers and ignore the sales pitches. Only autographs that can prove themselves outside the seller claims should you be comfortable acquiring. As for provenance: Look at the first six letters; they spell PROVEN. Provenance means just that proving where the autograph came from. In fact, this is very often the most important factor in authenticating an autograph. Knowing that a letter came from a reliable collection or dealer, and that it has an identifiable history, can be crucial to establishing a level of comfort.

07.01.2022 What is memorabilia? Memorabilia can best be described as objects kept or collected because of their associations with memorable people or events. 04.01.2022 Interesting items often come through our doors. Recently we examined and authenticated a French flag signed by Charles de Gaulle (French President 1959-69) and Winston Churchill (Prime Minister of The U.K. 1951-55). These two significant leaders were instrumental to the reestablishment of democracy by defeating Nazi Germany during World War II. This flag is a fantastic piece of historic memorabilia.

04.01.2022 How To Spot a Forgery Look for inconsistencies. Do the lines hesitate? Does it look like the pen or writing instrument was lifted from the paper or item? Some people do this but it's often where the line is interrupted that may be an indication it is a fake.

02.01.2022 Want to own Tom Cruise's fighter pilot helmet from Top Gun or Rocky Balboa's boxing gloves from Rocky?! It all goes under the hammer at the Prop Store. Over 800 pieces of memorabilia from your favourite movies is available now... https://propstore.com/category/movie-props/

02.01.2022 Is a third party authentication useful? Absolutely yes. If you have an item of memorabilia personally signed with the intention of the item having value to anyone other than you, you have to be able to prove that it was signed by the actual person whose name is on the item of memorabilia. In other words, you need to prove it is not a forgery. An impartial, credible, third-party witness can mean all the difference between an autographed item of memorabilia having value and being worthless. 01.01.2022 How to Spot a Forgery Stamped signatures Look closely at the ink. Pull out your magnifying glass and look for visual clues. Signatures that are Stamped-on will have all the ink applied at the same time and squeezed to the edges of the rubber. Through a magnifying glass, you will be able to see more ink on the edges of the lines than in the middle. Also, Stamped signatures usually have a uniform tone, but they may become evenly lighter or darker from one end to the other. This is due to the way the stamp is pressed onto the paper.
