AbsoluteBlack have added the PVD rainbow oil slick finish to their range, helping to match your SRAM Eagle oil slick chain - or other oilslick accessories on your bike. It does add a hefty extra amount to the item, based on the process required to make that bling look. PVD stands for Physical Vapour Deposition, and the process involves the 7075 aluminium being coated with Titanium. Yeah, we agree - that's pretty cool. While we all know Titanium adds dollars, the process involves a clean room, in chemical terms. That is a very strict process, and is required to stop anything messing around with the bonding of the materials. And we are talking very strict requirements, only 12 particles of less than 0.3 micrometres per cubic metre! The PVD coating itself isn't just for looks, it is extremely hard and exhibits a very low friction coefficient making the chain ring last longer while also looking snazzy. If you're an oval chain ring fan this will be great news, as plenty of other alloy oval rings don't have the longest service life.
