24.01.2022 Well you have heard me banging on about the Royal Commission. The report was released yesterday as you are possibly aware. Below is a press release from one of industry bodies. This is a story that is unfolding, but with an election looming large the government of the day will need to act to save face and the opposition will promise the world to gain votes.

22.01.2022 Hi Everyone, I hope this finds you all safe and well after another long and tumultuous week. Just a quick update on what we know so far around the Loan Repayment deferral. A few things to keep in mind 1. There will most likely be a three month checkpoint .... 2. If you have money in redraw, use this or withdraw this, before you enter into an arrangement. When you enter an arrangement your redraw will be most likely be suspended until your account is back in order. 3. If you have a debit card attached to the home loan redraw, and direct debits set up from the home loan redraw, these will also obviously be suspended. Offset facilities are a different story as this is a separate bank account. 4. So far Lenders have advised that the interest will be capitalised to your loan during the repayment pause time. 5. After a repayment pause, you will be required to bring your account up-to-date over an agreed period of time. This will result in monthly payments being adjusted to meet the contracted loan term (i.e. the amount required may be higher than current repayments and may incur a higher amount of interest over the life of the loan). A lot of these discussions will be had directly with you by your lender the time to clarify the customers situation. 6. Some lenders may be able to extend loan terms to accommodate.. 7. We know lenders are already demonstrating compassion through this tough time, and we also presume that they will continue to work with their customers when the repayment break is over. If your situation has not improved in six months, we believe you will be able to negotiate further support and arrangements. 8. The repayment pause will not impact eligible home loan customers’ credit score and credit reports. All new lending requests after the repayment pause will need to meet lending qualifying criteria. We will be beside you through this process and see you through the other side so please feel free to call and discuss should you need too. I still hold to my original view that if you are in a position to make your repayments, then continue to do so. There is a lot happening and changing so make sure you try and keep up to date with what is on offer for your individual circumstances through the stimulus packages. Stay safe and be well. See more

21.01.2022 Interesting News out of Canberra today, as you are probably already aware, the RBA have cuts rates again, no real surprises there though. Still more to come. Can we see 0.5% Cash Rates, I think we just might. ANZ has been the first of the big 4 to announce that they will pass on the full 0.25%, they didn't last month and I would expect the others to not pass on the full cut this time around.

20.01.2022 For those of you who like a chart, and lets be honest, who doesn't? Here is an interesting one, I will let you draw your own conclusions.

15.01.2022 With the Royal Commission into banking now wound up and the final report due out in February, credit tightening and the housing market in Sydney and Melbourne, especially, taking a sharp down turn, the Christmas break can't come soon enough for many. We would like to wish all of our Family, Friends and Clients a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy Safe and prosperous New Year. We hope that you get to spend precious time with your family and friends and to refocus on the year that is to be. 15.01.2022 I just wanted to reach out and as part of our AFS family I genuinely hope this finds you well and negotiating the raft of changes that have come our way, and yet to follow. I am well aware you will have been inundated, I hate that word, but there you go, with emails from a myriad of business’s telling you what their Covid 19 policy is etc etc. So I will try to keep this brief and just offer a bit of an update of what is going in in the finance world and hopefully clarify some...Continue reading

13.01.2022 When I first started working in Banking & Finance back in 1982, you can do the numbers, this was toted, and frowned upon, as was the Australia Card, if you are old enough to remember that. Well it looks like Cash is to go the way of the Record, the Tape, the Eight Track, the CD, the Cheque, the Passbook, well you get the idea. Are we about to become Cash less? Mind you, I think we have predominately been there for some time, and as for the Australia card, I will let you make up your own mind if we also got that in a round about way as well. Smoke & Mirrors I tells ya. How many of you still use Cash? Not me.

11.01.2022 The RBA today did a thing, yes that's right, they have, they have gone and cut interest rates by 0.25%. Records have tumbled once again. After an extended period of record low interest rates, we now have even lower record interest rates. No great surprises there however. Inflation is low, unemployment is creeping up, one of the few tools left to try and stimulate an economy.... How much will get passed on is the 64 million dollar question, not all of it I suspect, but hope for 0.2% This will be a short lived "Record Low" More to come? YOU BET!!! PS for those who have been here before, I have been calling this for over 12 months, just took a little longer to get here than I expected. See more

10.01.2022 Worth a read............and in other news the Reserve Bank kept rates on hold.

09.01.2022 So the Government did a thing.......Last night the Budget was handed down, here is a break up of how it might affect you, thank you Bankwest. Is it enough to save them at the next election or has Australia already made up its mind? Signs of a weakening economy in my opinion and interestingly it is the first time ever the RBA are pleased to see tax cuts, it means it will allow them to keep some fat in their interest rates for cuts in the future if the economy slows. Now we await for the oppositions reply, which will frankly be.......opposition.

03.01.2022 Around half of all borrowers now choose a broker over a bank branch, and we’d like to find out what kind of experience you had and how you may choose to secure a mortgage in the future. You may or may not be aware that there are legislative changes that are being considered which may impact the ways in which you are able to access finance in the future. We ask that you please contribute to ensure that your experiences are considered in the conversation. Our Industry is at a t...ipping point and at the moment I hold grave fears that the Broker channel will not exist in 12 - 18 months time or at minimum in a very different frame work. The survey is anonymous, no personal information is collected, and responses will only be viewed in aggregate. Further, none of your personal details will be used by any third parties whatsoever. I do not see this information and "The Adviser" magazine has commissioned Momentum Media to conduct the survey in an attempt to have the public opinion heard, something that has been lacking from current enquiries. You do not have to be a client of ours to complete. Anyone and everyone is encourage to fill this out. Not only feel free to share, but I would encourage it if you will. As an industry we would really appreciate you taking 2 minutes out of your day to compete the survey.

01.01.2022 Hi all, I hope this finds you all well, after a long and no doubt exhausting week. I have fielded many calls this week from clients who have lost their jobs or had to shut their business down, hopefully temporarily, and I cant tell you how much my heart goes out to each and everyone of you. It seems trite to say that this will end, but it will end and we will get through this. I think there would be something seriously wrong if we weren't all feeling a little, or a lot, anxio...Continue reading
