25.01.2022 When ‘Superhero Day’ rolled around at Lachlan’s kinda, he didn’t have to look much further for inspiration than his paramedic Mum, Stacey. That coffee cup? Inspired. With Book Week in full swing to the delight and dismay of parents everywhere, we hope little Lachlan gives you some ideas!...

25.01.2022 102 years ago today the Western Front fell silent as hostilities ceased. Today we pause to remember the sacrifices, the suffering and the people we’ve lost to war and armed conflict. Lest we forget.... by Stacie in Stawell

23.01.2022 Throughout October- or as we called it, Shocktober- thousands of Victorians took the time to learn CPR and find their nearest AED. From community halls, to Zoom chats, to the local fire station, Victorians showed up to look after eachother. Thank you to everyone who got involved- from the paramedics hosting the sessions, to the community members attending, to our amazing patients who told their stories and to Heart Safe Australia for donating 100 cabinets for AEDs. Lifesaving legends, every one of you.

Kellee was one of the amazing SA Ambulance Service crew who flew down to support Victoria earlier in the year.... To Adrian and Kellee- congratulations.

21.01.2022 From price checks to checking vitals, Zoe and Ellie have forged a similar career path. After working together for five years at Woolworths before pursuing paramedicine, Ellie put it best in saying: it’s ‘so lovely achieving your dreams with a friend.’

21.01.2022 If I have a message for you Victoria, its to be kind to each other. This pandemic is exhausting, but together well get through it. You asked, hes delivered! 20.01.2022 An open letter to our patient transport partners: In the middle of a crisis, we tend to keep our eyes fixed firmly on the road ahead. Particularly as we navigate the twists and turns were facing in Victoria. But I wanted to take a moment to say thank you to all of our colleagues in patient transport.... To each and every person working across Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia, St John Ambulance Victoria, Medical Edge Australia, Paramedic Services Victoria, National Patient Transport, Race Day Medical, Health Select and Event Medical Team - thank you. The lights and sirens of emergency care tends to attract attention. But its just one aspect of our states great ambulance service. Equally critical and deeply important, is the work you do. The clinical care youre providing is invaluable. Working shoulder to shoulder with you every day we see the sacrifice, dedication and grit you bring to every job and the care you provide to every patient. This pandemic is unlike anything weve seen in our lifetimes; we are challenged like never before. As Victorians, we can feel enormously proud of our world-class healthcare. And we couldnt be more grateful to be #inthistogether. Tony Walker, CEO, Ambulance Victoria

19.01.2022 UPDATE: Ambulance Victoria is experiencing an extremely high demand for ambulances in the metropolitan region. All Code 1 (the most urgent and critically unwell) patients are being seen in a timely manner. However there are delays for Code 2 and 3 patients, who may require assistance but do not have a life threatening illness. We take this opportunity to remind the community to please call NURSE ON CALL (1300 60 60 24) or visit their local GP service if their illness is not ...an emergency. Our number one priority is to provide care to the sickest Victorians who require lifesaving assistance. We thank the community and media for sharing this message and helping us save Triple Zero (000) for emergencies.

19.01.2022 While we talk of cases and numbers and tolls and rates- what were really talking about are sons and daughters and parents and friends. This isnt about numbers of infections- its about people. The people we love.

19.01.2022 What are you looking forward to after this storm is over? For us, its the same thing were always after- that every Victorian is well or well cared for. ... Thanks to Brittany

15.01.2022 Soon the whole Wimmera will be a patchwork of green and gold fields. Mount Arapiles or the Mount as locals refer to it is always a highlight to pass by on the way home. Well if this isnt a sight for Stage 4 eyes! With the same 5km of views getting pretty familiar for many Victorians, big thanks to ACOs Craig and Matt for sharing their views with us. ... 14.01.2022 Today were handing over to Simon (pictured below right) to share a little of his passion. Together with a growing number of AV dads like Peter (top) and Sean (left), theyve got a fantastic message to share. For me connection is built through experience and experience through conversation. As a new dad who moved to a new area, just before my fiancee and I had our first child Alby, I struggled to find that connection with other dads/men. ... So I reached out to Dads Group and started a group in my new local area. Its been great. Being a father is awesome on every level, it also has so many unforseen challenges and events that require planning for the spontaneity as I learnt from a dad recently. Dads Group has provided me with a platform to connect with other dads that help me share stories, learn, grow and develop as a father everyday. This is making me a better man who is learning more to understand vulnerability, love and connection with Alby. To check it out, search Dads Group on Facebook

14.01.2022 The over-water training for our awesome air ambulance paramedics has been in *full flight* over the past few weeks. Incredible footage from our friends at Coast Guard St Kilda who rightly point out that ‘while the skill of the pilots and aircrews is obvious, spare a thought for our vessel crews, who have to maintain a consistent speed and heading with close to 7 tonnes of downwash generated by the aircraft overhead.’ Amazing stuff....

13.01.2022 One of the beautiful things about this place is how often the kids and grandkids of our people grow up to join the team too. In our stories today youll see weve asked around about some of the dads of AV. The answers have certainly made us smile so we hope- particular today Victoria- they do the same for you.

13.01.2022 We laughed, we chortled and we guffawed. These letters have warmed us right through and we hope they do the same for you.

12.01.2022 Hes one of the true gentleman of ambulance, an incredible person and such a positive influence on so many of us during his career. 11.01.2022 Just a bit o’ Barney visiting the Waverley branch for your Saturday arvo.

11.01.2022 We asked you recently what you wanted more of, and the resounding answer? The people of AV! Meet Lew and Caitlin. Lew owns a successful earthmoving business and has been a First Responder and volunteer in the North East for 21 years!... Caitlin grew up with the ambulance as part of everyday life. When she was a kid, the ambulance was often parked at the house. If Lew was on duty when the kids needed to get to netball, she'd happily ride in the back. From the age of 10, Caitlin regularly found herself being 'volunteered' at ambulance training nights whenever a ‘patient’ needed to be bandaged up or strapped into a stretcher. After high school, Caitlin travelled, volunteered alongside her dad and saw the world. When she felt it was time to begin a career, being a paramedic in Victoria was all she wanted to do. Caitlin is nearly finished her first year on-road with AV and as you can see in these photos, Lew is a very proud dad!

09.01.2022 You know us for our lights and sirens, but what happens when the best kind of response to your Triple Zero emergency doesnt involve sending an ambulance? Meet our paramedics and nurses making sure you get the right care.

09.01.2022 We want to take you #behindthelightsandsirens and introduce you to some of the awesome characters here at AV. Over to you Tim! I think anyone who works in healthcare has a passion to assist people in their time of need, and Ive been no different in my 20 year career so far. Being a paramedic means that youre challenged every day, with every event you attend. The increase of skills and practice over my career continues to evolve, and knowing youre able to use these skills... always gives me a sense of pride and achievement. Time away from work is just as important. Balance of work and life is where moments are shared, with great rewards. Time spent with my wife and children centres me. Being involved with my childrens activities gives me great pride (although the bones creak a lot more than they once did). I spend a lot of time riding bikes, brewing beer, driving and fixing vintage cars in my old man hat, gardening and attending football games of my beloved Kangaroos. I cant recall who mentioned this to me, but one quote I have always used is always challenge yourself with new opportunities. My career at Ambulance Victoria has allowed me to follow this and experience a lot of moments that I have been proud of. From first being accepted into the service, becoming a clinical instructor, being involved in the first manual handling coordinator group and watching this program expand, being selected as one of the first six motorcycle paramedics in Victoria to becoming a Senior Team Manager at Gisborne. The challenges continue with my move into the Loddon Community Engagement Liaison Coordinator role, which presents a brand new challenge in the way we look at emergency healthcare. Its been a rewarding career so far, and I am looking forward to the next 20 years.

08.01.2022 It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our dear friend Darren Fellows. He wore many hats caring for the community, with us, SES, Surf Life Saving and the CFA. We are forever grateful for his dedication and service. ... We will miss him deeply.

08.01.2022 This morning, my baby woke me up and asked me if he could come with me to work. So we played pretend dress ups and played the role of paramedic and patient. Fair to say, he now wants to be a paramedic when he’s older. My heart is full! Thanks Praveena for sharing this gorgeous moment!

08.01.2022 Ambulance Victoria is experiencing an extremely high demand for ambulances in the metropolitan region. It is likely there will be a delay in an ambulance reaching you. If it’s not an emergency, please call NURSE ON CALL (1300 60 60 24). More information to come.

06.01.2022 When this brave and clever 9-year-old was bitten by a huge brown snake, a team of people sprang into action. But the most unusual source of help? Russell Coight. 02.01.2022 I was 24 then, I could only describe the scene as something I'd seen in a war movie." 50 yrs ago today the West Gate Bridge collapsed. 35 men lost their lives. Today we honour them. Peter Dent shares his recollections from the event:... https://www.ambulance.vic.gov.au/west-gate-bridge-tragedy-/

02.01.2022 Today marks the 50th anniversary of a mid-air collision between an air ambulance flight and a helicopter in 1970. The tragic event claimed the life of Flight Nurse Helen Lang, Pilot Peter Stone and three others. The air ambulance had completed the transfer of a patient to Essendon airport when shortly after take-off, the collision occurred. Helen was a 24 year old from Weering, Victoria who had completed both her nursing and midwifery training. She was one of the nurses known... as ‘flight sisters’ who were pioneers for the services provided by air ambulance paramedics today. Our thoughts are with the families of Helen, Peter and all involved in the tragedy.

02.01.2022 There’s no two ways about it, the Triple Zero call in this post is harrowing. Please know it’s not suitable for all. But these amazing people- Bill and Faye- are sharing their most terrifying moment in the hope it’ll help save a life. Today is Restart a Heart Day, and all throughout this month we’re asking Victorians to find their nearest AED. Faye said it best, ‘If my neighbour didn’t know where the defibrillator was, I don’t think Bill would be here today’.... Thank you to ESTA 000 for sharing this powerful call. #Shocktober
