19.01.2022 Our participant Fleur wanted to move to Bendigo to be near family and better supports for herself and her children. This year, despite COVID-19, two kids, two dogs and a move of over 300 km, she made it! Fleur showed amazing determination to overcome the difficulties of moving in such a stressful time. Fleur is looking forward to taking advantage of all that Bendigo can provide.

16.01.2022 Last Sunday Dan Andrews announced changes to restrictions in both metropolitan Melbourne and Regional Victoria. Whilst Regional Victorian remains in Third Step restrictions, from Sunday night some restrictions started to ease. Click the link below to read what these changes to restrictions Include.

15.01.2022 Masks are now mandatory in public indoor spaces. Due to a community COVID-19 case, the Victorian Premier announced new statewide restrictions will be in effect from 11.59pm, February 3. In addition to mandatory masks, the limit on the number of people gathering in the home will be reduced from 30 to 15, meaning the household members plus 15 visitors (excluding children under 12 months of age).

Anyone at risk of thunderstorm asthma, such as those with grass pollen allergy and asthma, has been urged to avoid going outside during thunderstorms and the wind gusts that precede them. ... Health authorities have urged anyone with asthma or hay fever, to plan ahead and have their asthma medication on hand.

06.01.2022 Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has announced a five-day lockdown in response to the growing coronavirus outbreak linked to a Melbourne quarantine hotel. Restrictions will be in effect from 11.59pm Friday 12 February. There will be four reasons to leave home shopping for essentials, for care and caregiving, for exercise and for work, if it is essential.... People will be restricted to exercising and shopping within five kilometres of their home. Masks will need to be worn whenever leaving home. The measures are expected to be lifted at 11:59pm on Wednesday.

04.01.2022 NAIDOC Weeks starts Sunday and runs from November 8-15. This year's theme is Always Was, Always Will Be. The theme recognises and celebrates that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. There are many digital events to celebrate NAIDOC Week including a live streamed Flag Raising Ceremony on the City of Greater Bendigo page featuring a Dja Dja Wurrung Clans Aboriginal Corporation Welcome to Country by Trent Nelson and a Smoking C...eremony by Aunty Marilyne Nicholls at 11am on Monday November 9. Bendigo Art Gallery is also holding Talking First Nations Fashion which is a free event that brings together a selection of seventy First Nations designers, artists and makers to showcase the first major survey of Indigenous Australian fashion.

04.01.2022 Amicus participant Mary and her support worker Jillian have been working on a toilet roll Christmas Tree. Mary decided she wanted to try something from the internet and Jillian assisted her with some of the preparation and the creativeness. The final step will be for Mary to add some pom poms to the tree. We can't wait to see the final result!

04.01.2022 Happy 50th Mary! Recently support workers Karen and Ebonie secretly coordinated with Mary’s husband to surprise her for her 50th birthday. The surprise was perfectly planned and Mary had some friends and family in attendance as well as support workers Karen, Ebonie, Jillie and Kat.... Looks like lots of fun!

03.01.2022 What do the new Victorian 5-day lockdown restrictions mean for Amicus? Amicus is still a provider of essential services. This means in home supports will continue as scheduled unless the participant requests that services be suspended.... We are unable to deliver community-based supports given the restrictions, but can support participants for up to 2 hours to exercise or participants can request to have their support delivered at home. Supported Independent Living No visitors are permitted into aged care or other residential facility settings, except for end-of-life reasons. Non-essential contractors are restricted from entry. 03.01.2022 Eddie has put together this amazing clock at the Long Gully Men's Shed, where he attends weekly with his support worker Rochelle. Eddie had greatly missed the Men's Shed during lockdown but is thoroughly enjoying his time there again now restrictions have eased.

01.01.2022 A community program co-developed by Macquarie Business School addresses the under-representation of people with intellectual disability in self-employment. Under the initiative, participants are given support in key business areas including developing their business plan, marketing and daily business management skills.
