08.01.2022 Between book work afternoon tea in the garden... love spending the day at home.

02.01.2022 Fatuma’s labour lasted two days before her family brought her to the nearest hospital, 50 kilometres from their village. The medical staff were able to save Fat...uma’s life not her baby’s. Due to the prolonged, obstructed labour she had sustained a double fistula and severe nerve damage. She was incontinent of urine and feces and unable to walk. Soon after returning home, her husband divorced her and married another woman. She was taken in by her father and lived in isolation for four months before her father learnt of Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital from a cured patient in their village. Fatuma first arrived at the hospital 10 years ago, carried by her father. After seven months of good nutrition and physiotherapy Fatuma was strong enough for surgery. Her surgery was successful and she was completely cured. Living with fistula had pushed me to hate my own self. Nobody wanted to come close to me I don’t even want to think about it, Fatuma. After Fatuma was cured and discharged, she remarried and began life again with her new husband. Fatuma returned this week to Addis Ababa pregnant with her first baby since her injury. She received a caesarean section and now has a healthy baby boy. I wonder what could have happened to me if I were not able to be here. Every part of the care I have been getting here is so special. I am very thankful to all the staff here, Fatuma.

02.01.2022 Have a great long weekend.
