25.01.2022 Navadurgas - Chandraghanta - Chanting - Significance - Navaratri Night 3 On this third day of #Navaratri, lets take a look at the third of the forms of Nava Durgas - Devi Chandra Ghanta We discussed the first two names:... Shaila putri - representing the right start one gives to an endeavor one ventures into. Brahmacharini - representing the attitude to strive, dedicate and be sincere about our goal and efforts to achieve it Today - it is Chandra Ghanta - Chandra translates to the moon crescent - Ghanta - a bell - The moon crescent in shape of the bell that Divine mother adorns on her forehead After going through the austere penance, Lord Shiva agrees to marry Goddess Parvati. He comes to the kingdom of King of Himalayas - to seek the hand of Mother parvati - He is led in a procession by his attendants who are the shiva ganas - who aren't very particular about social norms - as they are focused mainly and only on their spiritual penance - so their appearance, conduct and behavior may seem out of place to a normal person. The procession scares people in the kingdom including Parvati devi's parents. It is believed that Parvati Devi then manifests as Chandra Ghanta - symbolizing the moon crescent that's on Lord Shiva's forehead - manifesting on her forehead too. Conveying to her folks that they needn't be scared or intimidated or be doubtful about this alliance. That's She's already one with Shiva - This is just a formality that needs to happen. As we sincerely try to set our focus on the goal and put in our sincere efforts to achieve it - at some point of time, initially - it may seem that we are near the goal and about to achieve it - or almost achieve it. But let us not be mistaken that - it would most probably be a delusion to think so. It probably will be the beginning of hurdles and challenges that we may face thereafter. What keeps us going strong will be out identification with the goal and the attitude as we tread the path. The weapons in Chandra Ghanta's hands represents the fighting spirit and the determination to overcome these hurdles with are bound to come. So Devi #Chandraghanta reminds us - not to become complacent of already achieving our goal - but to be prepared with the right attitude to overcome the hurdles that invariably are bound to come our way - and be identified with the Goal. 24.01.2022 Navadurgas - Skandamata - Chanting - Significance - Navaratri Night 5 Today, we will look at the 5th form - Skanda mAtA. One of the main reasons the Devas - the demi gods - were expectant of Mother Parvati and Lord Shiva marrying is the demon - tArakAsura. He was creating havoc in the creation and had a boon that only Lord Shiva's offspring can defeat him - assuming Lord Shiva will never have a child - being in the state of samAdhi ever. But with Mother Parvati's sankalpa -... from 6 blades of fire from Shiva's third eye, came the form of Karthikeya. He was initially brought up by the six Karthika sisters - represented by the six stars in Karthika constellation - Thus he got the name kArthikeya. With Shiva and Parvati's resolve - the six forms were combined into one - most abled and virtuous form. Thus the name Shanmukha (the 6 faced). Skanda as Karthikeya is known as - Divine mother is referred to as Skanda mAtA here - the mother of Skanda. What spiritual message should we derive from here? We may find challenges of varied forms and magnitude - as we pursue after our goal. It would be best we don't wait for others to help us or the problems to magically disappear. Rather we create the counter-action to resolve the problems through out effort. Any form of help or assistance from others can be counted as additional Grace. We create the virtues that Skanda/Karthikeya represents and face the challenges with the right attitude. As Amma says - if a problem is faced with right attitude - often the problem doesn't remain as a problem any more. So, the take away from the form of Skanda mAtA is - challenges of all sizes are bound to come - Let us be independent and self-confident - and develop the virtues to counter them. #Navaratri #Skandamata To view the video please click on the grey area below

21.01.2022 Navadurgas - Brahmacharini - Chanting - Significance - Navaratri Night 2 On this second day of Navaratri, lets take a look at the second of the forms of Nava Durgas - Devi Brahmacharini We discussed the first name - Shaila putri - representing the right start one gives to an endeavor one ventures into.... Today it is #Brahmacharini - Brahma - refers to the supreme - the ultimate goal - Charini - one who treads on the path, so as to achieve it. One who puts in the heart and soul to achieve the ultimate goal. Parvati devi - had to undergo auterities and penance - letting go of the royal comforts - be it extravagant food, clothing, jewelry, place of stay etc. And was ever lost in the thoughts of achieving the ultimate goal she was born for - Reuniting with the Supreme Shiva - where she belonged. Her true form. The rosary bead in Devi Brahmacharini's hands represents constant effort and practice - like how one keeps chanting the mantra constantly with the beads - and a the kamandalu - the small vessel in the other hand - signifying - to be satisfied with and be ready to work with the minimum resources available. As we seek our goal in life - we need to prepared to sacrifice certain comforts, likes, conditions, notions etc. We need to kindle the attitude to strive and work hard. The mantra should be - Stop not until the goal is reached. Leave no stone unturned. Exhaust every possibility. For fortune favors the brave - one who had the courage to step out of the comfort zone and strive to achieve. Amma says - effort will never go waste. Even if it doesn't produce a desired fruit immediately, it will definitely pay back eventually for the sincere efforts we put in. Let the form of Brahmacharini - inspire us to cultivate the attitude to give our 100% into striving for what we are trying to achieve. #Navaratri Please click on the grey area below in order to view the video

10.01.2022 Navadurgas - Kushmanda - Chanting - Significance - Navaratri Night 4 On this fourth day of #Navaratri, lets take a look at the fourth of the forms of Nava Durgas - Devi kUShmANDA We discussed the first three names in the previous videos:... Shaila putri - representing the right start one gives to an endeavor one ventures into. Brahmacharini - representing the attitude to strive, be dedicated and be sincere about our goal and efforts to achieve it Chandra ghanta - reminding us to not become complacent that the goal is reached already - to be ready for hurdles with right attitude Today - we look at KushmANDA - Kushmanda has different meanings in Sanskrit like pumpkin, kinds of vegetable gourd, or even demon etc. But the meaning is to be interpreted in context. That's the beauty of Sanskrit. aNDA - means egg. Ushma - heat or otherwise energy - kUShmANDA referring to Divine mother as Shakti - Energy or force that is the cosmic egg from which creation happens. Terms like hiraNya garbha or brahmANDa in the scriptures can be interpreted as the concentrated or condensed form of net sum of energy in the creation - like how even the big-bang theory suggests - everything in the creation got created from that energy - or shakti - or kUshmANDA In our effort to achieve our goal, we need to recognize we need to create the path that we tread - all the way up to the goal we strive for. By our effort we need to create opportunities, conducive moments, helpful relationships, meaningful environ so that situations cooperate with our efforts. There would definitely be people, things, situations etc that help us in our journey. But even that was earned by us through our efforts in the past. As the saying goes, we get what we deserve and not always what we desire. So #Kushmanda devi teaches us to create those opportunities we want to have - so that we receive what we rightly deserve and make the best of the opportunities we get. 06.01.2022 Navadurgas - Katyayani - Chanting - Significance - Navaratri Night 6 On this sixth day of Navaratri, lets take a look at the sixth of the 9 forms of Nava Durgas - Devi kAtyAyanI We discussed the first five names in the previous videos:... Shaila putri - representing the right start one gives to an endeavor one ventures into. Brahmacharini - representing the attitude to strive, be dedicated and be sincere about our goal and efforts to achieve it Chandra ghanta - reminding us to not become complacent that the goal is reached already - to be ready for hurdles with right attitude KushmaNDA - inspiring us to "create" - create the opportunities we want to have - to receive what we rightly deserve and make the best of the opportunities SkandamAtA - conveying to us to be independent and self confident - to develop the virtues to counter that challenges we face Today we will look at 6th name - kAtyAyanI - She gets the name as being born to Sage kAtyAyana. It is believed that the Devas (the demi gods) invoked the Divine Mother MahAshakti - so as to put an end to the demon Mahishasura - who was a representation of ignorance and inertia. He had the boon that he cannot be defeated by a "Man". So Divine Mother assimilates the powers of the devas and incarnates a kAtyAyani - also satisfying Sage kAtyAyana's long time wish to have the Divine Mother as his daughter. kAtyAyanI was effulgent with radiance - with the fire of conviction to put an end to Mahishasura's tyranny. Understanding the spiritual principle behind - kAtyAyani's effulgence represents the light that we need to develop to overcome the darkness of ignorance and inertia in form of negativities. The light of knowledge, wisdom, understanding, persistence, passion, dedication that we need to shed and spread. This light will guide us through our path to reach our goal. So the take away - from Devi kAtyAyani's form - to imbibe and shed the light of knowledge, wisdom, understanding and patience - as we pursue our goal #Katyayani #Navaratri To view the video please click on the grey area below

02.01.2022 Navadurgas - Shailaputri - Chanting - Significance - Navaratri Night 1 During these auspicious days of Navaratri this year, let's try to understand the significance of the Nava Durgas - the nine forms of the Divine Mother and try to decipher the spiritual principle behind the forms. There could be many ways of interpreting the nine forms. Let us take a look at them from the perspective of our growth - be it spiritual growth or our venturing into a meaningful endeavor - some...thing purposeful that we are trying to achieve, sincerely in our life. One this first day of Navaratri, lets take a look at the first of the Nava Durgas forms - Devi Shaila putri It is believed that so as to bring forth the creation, the aspectful part of the supreme was separated from the ultimate form of union as - Shakti - Energy - or the force - with which the creation, sustenance and dissolution of everything in the physical realm happens. Thus we refer to the pair as Shiva and Shakti; Purusha (supreme consiousness) and prakriti (matter) or brahman (the eternal supreme) and mAya (the ephemeral creation). The nine Durgas convey the journey of Shakti re-uniting with Shiva - as the Supreme existence. Shakti had to be incarnate in a human form so as to realize the true Self and unite with Shiva again. She first incarnated as Sati but could not achieve the ultimate state of supreme union. So she then re-incarnated as parvati who eventually went through the process of penance so as to finally unite with Shiva. Parvati - means the daughter of Parvata - the mountain - the lord of the Himalayas. - The first form Shaila putri - means the same - Shaila - the mountains - Putri - daughter. As the first step she had to be born in the right place, with the right mindset, right attitude, right environment. so as to begin the journey unto realizing Her true self - her true potential. So as the first step towards reaching the meaningful goal of our life - the first step is that the fighting spirit in us needs to be born - preparing ourselves for the journey - developing the right attitude, setting up the right environ and mindset, kindling the qualities of shraddha, dedication, faith and confidence. That will be the best beginning we can have. Starting on the right note. Putri - translates to daughter - a young girl - Amma always says - we need to develop and attitude and innocence of a child. Only a child can grow. Devi Shaila putri - represents that very quality - inspires us to prepare ourselves - as the very first step - so as to achieve our meaningful goals.
