20.01.2022 Hi friends - I know many of us are going through tough and uncertain times at the moment. Out of deep concern for the safety and wellbeing of staff and supporters, the Amnesty Tasmania Action centre will be closed over the coming weeks. If you need to get in contact with staff, or to arrange temporary access to the office please email [email protected]. We are looking at creative ways we can continue to campaign for human rights as a community while apart.... Please check the Amnesty national activism planner for upcoming online trainings, skill sharing and events (more to come here!) https://www.amnesty.org.au/activism-planner/ Take care, Alex & the Amnesty Tas Crew

13.01.2022 Once again a children’s book that is just fabulous for early childhood (4-7). An accessible picture book that oh-so-simply and graphically introduces the term ...refugee to curious young children to help them better understand the world in which they live. Who are refugees? Why are they called that word? Why do they need to leave their country? Why are they sometimes not welcome in their new country? In this relevant picture book for the youngest children, author-illustrator Elise Gravel explores what it means to be a refugee in bold, graphic illustrations and spare text. This is the perfect tool to introduce an important and timely topic to children. Available at Angus & Robertson, BookTopia.com.au and all good bookstores can order it in for you.

05.01.2022 Harrowing testimony from eyewitnesses suggests that, almost immediately after the Iranian authorities massacred hundreds of those participating in nationwide protests, they went on to orchestrate a wide-scale clampdown designed to instil fear and prevent anyone from speaking out about what happened, said Philip Luther, Middle East and North Africa Research Director at Amnesty International.

03.01.2022 The testimony we have a gathered leaves little doubt that this was a well-coordinated attack and raises serious questions as to how heavily-armed gunmen in a fleet of vehicles were seemingly able to pass through Baghdads checkpoints and inflict such a bloody onslaught." Lynn Maalouf, Amnestys Middle East Research Director.
