21.01.2022 What better time than now to start restructuring the framework for our economy, moving towards one that allows all living things to flourish and live with dignity and wellbeing. If you are interested in economics and possible alternative models we highly recommend checking out Kate Raworth's donut economic model. We also highly recommend reading the book this quote was taken from 'Faith and Struggle on Smokey Mountain' (available in the Amos library). This will give an... eye opening insight into life on one of the worlds largest rubbish dumps. The waste we create through our consumption does not disappear, we are just often not the ones to see its direct impacts on the poor and the environment. Drop us a comment if you have come across any other amazing resources that you think we should know about. #sustainableliving #livesimply #donuteconomics #peoplenotprofits See more

Perfect for multi layered gifting as each card purchased provides funds that Amos can pass on to our partners through project grants and staff funding, and you get the pleasure of brightening up someones day with these amazing artworks by the talented Matilda Braun and Fritz VanderSchaaf.
20.01.2022 The residents of Prai Hambuli lost the use of their precious spring water due to the construction of a new government road. Now they need to walk several kilometres down a steep embankment to the next nearest spring to access water having significant impacts on their daily lives. Water for drinking, cooking and washing all need to be carried up the steep hill. Amos is partnering with Yakerrsum to tap this new water source and install a pump and distribution system to get water to the village, leaving the residents free to focus on other essential tasks like schooling, cooking and growing food.
20.01.2022 A little lesson from Bob Goudzwould.
19.01.2022 At Amos we recognise that poverty stems from a breakdown in 4 interlinked relationships. Relationships with God, self, others and nature. If we exploit nature we are ultimately impacting all these other relationships and it is particularly the poor who suffer as their food sources diminish and they bare the brunt of the impacts of increased extreme weather patterns. To learn more about our view on poverty check out our website www.amosaustralia.org
17.01.2022 This year has been tough for so many of our partners so we just love a good news story, and we are so happy to celebrate with Cindy on the birth of her baby boy, born yesterday morning, a healthy bundle of joy. Unfortunately Cindy's husband couldn't join her due to COVID restrictions preventing his return to Sumba from his work in Bali. Cindy works for BKAD as the cashier in their gallery, selling beautifully handicrafts made by locals trained in traditional weaving practices as income generating projects.
17.01.2022 We are all facing daily changes and restrictions to our lives. Some of us may have lost jobs or fear for the health of our family members. Our love and prayers go out for all of you. Thankfully there is no limit to love and prayers so at times like these let us continue to remember our brothers and sisters in extreme poverty, those that are most vulnerable. All our brothers and sisters who do not have access to soap or water, who live closely packed in slums or refugee camp...s. Migrant workers left stranded and hungry hundreds of miles from home. As one Indian doctor wrote: "Hand washing is a privilege, it means you have running water. Hand sanitiser is a privilege, it means you have money to buy them... Most of the ways to ward the Carona virus off are accessible only to the affluent." https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-52086274

14.01.2022 Amos' partner Koppesda works with coffee growers purchasing beans from farmers and processing, packaging, marketing and selling this coffee, with profits returning to the farmers. Regardless of the profit margin, Koppesda purchases the coffee beans for a fair and reasonable price from the farmers. The processing, packaging and marketing of the products allowed for a greater increase in retail price and drew in a larger profit compared to the simple sale of the beans allowing a stable income for farmers that does not fluctuate, and eliminates potential middle-men who aim to make a significant profit from the farmer’s produce.
13.01.2022 Thank you to everyone who came out and joined us for a beautiful evening under the stars as we watched the film Good Fortune. A Big Thank you to all those that helped out on the night, Charlene Tomren and Rob Tomren for the amazing pizzas. Margs Bakery for the bases. 09.01.2022 We love good news! A huge congrats goes out to Dian (the treasurer from our partner UPK) and her new baby daughter who was born late last month.
09.01.2022 As serene as this scene looks we are as happy as the village members of Prai Hambuli that the completion of Phase 1 of their water project means they no longer need to walk a few km's to this spring to carry water each day and can now access drinking and washing water from a single standpipe in their village centre. Our partnership with Yakkersum on this project is in the planning stage of Phase 2, to pipe water to various points in the village, including the school and church.

Junior AmUC is an opportunity to be immersed in the mission field of your backyard! Through games, stories and field trips you’ll get the chance to see what is happening in the urban community and how you can bring CHANGE."
07.01.2022 Amos is committed to continue support for our partners and where needed subsidise staff wages where other financial income or support has dissipated due to Covid-19. We believe that in tough times our support for the poorest should only get stronger. In this photo Yakkersum staff in Sumba with community members near one of the rural water project sites.
05.01.2022 The final part of our mini series. This is our budget and financial transparency report where we share with you what we have spent in the last year and outline our budget for the next year.
04.01.2022 Exciting news! The Amos Conference is being held on October 16 & 17 and we would love to have your company as we share and learn from others in a variety of interactive workshops. We'll also learn a little bit more about how our partner organisations are adapting in a Covid-19 shaped world. You can register your interest via Facebook or send your RSVP to Aimee. 04.01.2022 'Communication saves lives'. In any kind of disaster it is imperative that the right information is provided to the affected people and that their needs are conversely also heard. That is why Amos Australia is partnering with NCED in Northern Cambodia to deliver up-to-date information regarding COVID-19 to the Bunong people in their own language, so they can make informed responses to the pandemic.
02.01.2022 Part 3 of our 4 part mini series. This one is all about our local engagement.
02.01.2022 It's on again! "AMUC (Among the Urban Community) is a unique experience. It’s a mission exposure trip for adults in our own city. You will be challenged to consider how the Gospel ought to shape the way we respond to human need and brokenness. AMUC enables you to explore what it might look like to follow the footsteps of our Servant King through our own city in the company of those who are living their faith on the streets." You can find more information about this great opportunity here: https://www.suwa.org.au/mission/local-community/
