07.01.2022 CAMPING WITH KIDS - 5 TIPS FROM MUM TIP 1 - Know your campground facilities. Do a little research and find out what’s available to you and whether or not it suits your family. Do you need showers and toilets? Would you benefit from a caravan park or are you wanting something off the grid? We’ve experienced all sorts of amenities with our kids and have found it largely depends on their age at the time. ... TIP 2 - Have a think about your meals. How much preparation do you need? Is there a supermarket close by to stock up on snacks because as we know, kids are always hungry! Can you prepare anything before you go such as chopping foods or packing snacks into daily requirements. Something to also think about is your refrigeration limits for cold foods. We find having a rough plan in place is enough to get us through but I always pack extra just in case the entire trip is filled with fussy eaters TIP 3 - Determine the clothes you might need. My general rule is 2 outfits a day for the kids to cater for the dirt and general fun the kids have. Will you have facilities to wash clothes and will the weather permit it? I always pack extra but I’d rather have too many than not enough. TIP 4 - Work out your sleeping arrangements. For our kids now, they sleep on separated camping bunks on the main floor of our camper trailer. They have their own sleeping bags and pillow. Be prepared for the weather conditions (nothing worse than sleeping in a beanie and jacket when it’s cold ) and don’t forget the kids soft toys or special blanket. You want them to feel comfortable and special things from home are especially important if they’re new to camping. TIP 5 - What extras do you need? I’m talking bug spray, first aid kit, night lights, head torches, activities to keep the kids entertained, kids Panadol etc. Create a list BEFORE the day you leave to avoid forgetting anything. My biggest tip for all of you camping families is to GO WITH THE FLOW . Things don’t always go to plan but enjoy the moment. Forget about the small stuff and just enjoy spending time with each other. I can promise you the kids will love it and will be asking when their next trip away is And FYI the camper trailer is back from her last journey around the Sunshine Coast. Contact us ASAP to book in your camping trip for the school holidays!
