23.01.2022 RCF 39362 at Cunnamulla 2020

23.01.2022 Looking back through some photos to 2010 we see a northbound Sunlander service with Queenslander Class heading through Petrie. Sadly didn't get the entire consist but we have 1446, 1471, 1936, 1518, 1490, 1494, 153(6 or 8), 1489.

22.01.2022 Today's historic photo of the day: The interior of a first class seating section on Queensland Railways' Winton-bound 'Midlander' train near Dillcar, Qld, 34 ye...ars ago today, July 19 1986. The Midlander was one of QR's fleet of air-conditioned 'Lander' trains introduced in the 1950s to modernise the former non air-conditioned wooden-bodied mail trains. Comprising sitting, sleeping and dining cars, the Midlander ran twice weekly from Rockhampton to the central Queensland outback towns of Longreach and Winton. Curiously, despite having been named The Midlander since 1954, when I made this trip in 1986, I regularly overheard references to the train as being 'The Mail'. This carriage was one of Queensland Railways' M series cars built between 1953 and 1955. Used on all 'Lander' trains, the last of these carriages remained in service on the Sunlander until that train's replacement in December 2014. My recollection is that the section photographed was almost the entire first class seating section of the train and that it did not take up the entire carriage. If that is so, then this may have been one of the three MCL class composite sitting cars that provided 18 first class and 24 second class seats. The Midlander ran until 1993 when it was replaced by the Spirit of the Outback - a twice weekly train that runs from Brisbane to Longreach via Rockhampton. Whilst the Midlander was very much a train for locals, today's 'Spirit' is targeted at tourists. Although the Spirit of the Outback is certainly a great train, it terminates at Longreach, whereas the old Midlander in 1986 continued on to Winton, so it's no longer possible to travel through Dillcar.

20.01.2022 Scratch built CMR built by Ken Edge-Williams 37 years ago- in days where the only decals you could get was the QR logo. Scribed styrene was just making it presence about then as well- previously you had to painstakingly scribe it yourself. At AMRAQ S scale reunion

19.01.2022 STOP PRESS regarding the 2021 Bundaberg Model Train & Hobby Expo. Dear Exhibitor, I am pleased to advise that the seventh annual Bundaberg Model Train & Hobby E...xpo is planned to be held on the weekend of 20 & 21 March 2021 at the Bundaberg Multiplex Sports & Convention Centre, 1 Civic Avenue, Bundaberg West. As you are aware, the 2020 expo was cancelled at very short notice due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We are encouraged by the recent easing of some restrictions, and have been advised by Queensland Health that it is likely there will be further relaxations by early next year, as long as current public health trends continue. There will be several self-imposed check points set by our club in the coming months as we do not want to be faced with the same scenario as 2020. We will continue monitoring the public health directives which concern indoor public events, and how they need to be implemented, as well as their impact on the expo. The venue has been booked and confirmed for the above dates, and we will continue planning for the event while moving forward with caution. Exhibitors will be kept informed of any developments as they come to hand. Please find attached the Exhibitor Application Form Package which needs to be returned to us by 11 December 2020. Please return forms to : The Coordinator, 2021 Bundaberg Model Train & Hobby Expo, P.O. Box 2335, Bundaberg. Qld. 4670. Or email to : [email protected]

18.01.2022 Thanks for the add to the group. The Krupp-Ardelt Breakdown Crane siting in Southern Downs Steam Railway (SDSR) yards in Warwick. . Built by the giant German Kr...upp factory in 1957, No.2 spent it’s working life in Rockhampton and was until recently under the care of Qld Rollingstock Preservation Group. Mick Scaffioti from QRPG had to remove the crane from it’s storage site and offered to cover the cost of relocation to Warwick in return for SDSR acting as custodians. See more

17.01.2022 Last Sunlander from Roma St 29 Dec 2014 - we travelled QLDer class in MAS 1492 13/14. She was pretty tired on the outside but inside was still in good condition. Hopefully a traditional sleeper service to Cairns will return one day. To me a rail bed is something you lay rail track on.

10.01.2022 As a result of the Covid 19 epidemic in Australia the 2020 Brisbane Model Train Show was postponed from its original date of 2 & 3 May,2020. AMRA QLD had hoped to conduct the show on its standby date of 19 & 20 September,2020.... Because of continuing infections in the southern states our committee believes it is currently unsafe to hold this years show. Accordingly this years show is now cancelled. Our next Brisbane Model Train Show will be held in the RNA Exhibition Building on 1 & 2 MAY,2021. For those traders who have paid amounts towards participation in the 2020 show, would you please advise this week if you want these payments refunded or held over until next years show. Our financial year finishes on 31 July,2020 and we would like to finalise all refunds by that date. In the meantime, our next Open Day will be held at our Zillmere clubrooms on 17 October,2020. We hope to see as many of you as possible on that day. Committee Of AMRA QLD

05.01.2022 Another set from 2010 with a view of the southbound Sunlander passing through Northgate; we see 1459 and 1470 looking rather resplendent and looking at the rear... of the train we see a flat bed car carrier (I am sure someone will know the code) and the four L series sitting cars. I look back now and I realise I should've spent much more time photographing the various carriages of the Lander services See more
