06.01.2022 Tasmania and Western Australia named as new event locations for Australian Nationals and Masters Rowing Championships Rowing Australia is pleased to announce to...day a number of locations as part of its multi-year national events strategy. Tasmania and Western Australia are both set to host rowing events over the next seven years, with further venues to be announced in due course. The State Government of Tasmania, has secured for Lake Barrington to host the May 2020 and 2028 Australian Masters Rowing Championships and the March 2021 Australian National Championships, including the King’s and Queen’s Cups Interstate Regatta. The hosting of the National Championships in Lake Barrington, will see the event return to Tasmania for the first time since 2009. Meanwhile, the State Government of Western Australia, has secured the Australian Masters Rowing Championships for May 2022 and 2026 and the Australian National Championships, for March 2023. The three national events will be held at the Champion Lakes Regatta Centre, a purpose-built water sports facility that is the only international standard rowing venue in Australia outside of Penrith, NSW. It will be the first time since 2012 that the Nationals have been hosted in Perth. New South Wales will host the 2021 Australian Masters Rowing Championships at the world-class Sydney International Regatta Centre, the exact dates for this event will be announced in due course. Discussions are ongoing about further events in New South Wales. Rowing Australia Chair, Rob Scott, said We’re delighted to be able to announce the first series of locations that have been secured as part of our multi-year event strategy. We’re grateful to Rowing WA, Rowing Tasmania and Rowing NSW for their support in securing these great partnerships. The rowing community across Australia has expressed a desire to compete at various venues across the country and we’re happy to be able to deliver this via today’s event hosting announcement. As part of this fantastic series of partnerships, both the Tasmanian and WA venues will benefit from capital upgrades to ensure they continue to deliver for the local community long past our events. Meanwhile, it is wonderful for us to continue to be able to utilise the Sydney 2000 Olympic legacy venue for rowing. We’re excited to share with the community, in the coming months, the future regatta venues of our major events as we finalise these with the various States and Territories. I would like to take this opportunity to once again thank the State Governments of Tasmania, Western Australia and New South Wales for supporting our great sport of rowing. The Tasmanian Minister for Events, Sarah Courtney commented, We’re delighted to be hosting three national events. These events will enhance the 10 domestic rowing events annually staged at Lake Barrington and position Tasmania strongly to attract even more events. This investment will both boost rowing at a local level and give Tasmanians the opportunity to see world-class athletes in their home state. Western Australia Minister for Tourism, Hon Paul Papalia CSC said, Attracting mass participation events to WA forms part of the State Government’s strategic objectives for tourism. They drive up visitor numbers and spend as well as showcasing the State to new markets. These three Championships events will attract thousands of competitors, officials and supporters to WA and provide a multi-million dollar boost to the economy. They’ll also have a positive impact on local rowing clubs and programs, making sure the sport remains strong and sustainable in Western Australia. 05.01.2022 2020 Australian Masters Rowing Championships cancelled Rowing Australia (RA) today confirmed that the 2020 Australian Masters Rowing Championships (AMRC 2020) has been cancelled due to the Federal Government announcement that non-essential mass gatherings of more than 500 are recommended not to proceed from Monday 16 March 2020 in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. The cancellation of AMRC 2020 means that RA and Rowing Tasmania will not run the event that was scheduled to be he...ld at Lake Barrington, in Tasmania, from 29 April to 2 May 2020. The decision was made by the Rowing Australia Board, in consultation with both the Rowing Australia Masters Commission and also Rowing Tasmania, the latter as hosts of the event this year. Rowing Australia CEO, Ian Robson said, After discussions today with the RA Board, the RA Masters Commission and Rowing Tasmania, we sadly have to inform our Masters rowing community that we are unable to host this year’s Australian Masters Rowing Championships. The decision to cancel this year’s event, like the decision to cancel our National Championships, was made by the RA Board in response to the updated medical advice in relation to mass gatherings from the relevant government agencies and we continue to support the action being taken to help protect the health and well-being of the whole country. While we are disappointed to have to cancel this year’s event, the health, wellbeing and safety of all the rowing community participants, volunteers, officials, staff and spectators must always come first. We apologise for any inconvenience that the cancellation of Masters may cause. We look forward to welcoming the Masters rowing community to the Sydney International Regatta Centre in Penrith, New South Wales in 2021. We encourage all our community to continue to closely monitor the situation around COVID-19 via the relevant State and Federal Health Authorities and the AIS website. The easiest way to protect yourself and others is to pay attention to good hand hygiene and good respiratory hygiene. Frequently Asked Questions How do I cancel my travel and accommodation? Please contact your travel provider directly to cancel any flights or accommodation. Rowing Tasmania will refund accommodation bookings at the lake. I have paid for a trade site, is it refundable?
