21.01.2022 The Macquarie Lighthouse, also known as South Head Upper Light, was the first, and is the longest serving, lighthouse site in Australia. It is located on Dunbar Head, New South Wales. The lighthouse is situated approximately 2 kilometres south of South Head, near the entrance to Sydney Harbour. There has been a navigational aid in this vicinity since 1791 and a lighthouse near the present site since 1818. The current heritage-listed lighthouse was completed in 1883. The lighthouse and associated buildings were designed by James Barnet and built from 1881 to 1883. The lighthouse is fully operational and is under the control of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority.

17.01.2022 AMSG is honoured to be engaged with partner IPCQ to deliver a complex body of work under challenging conditions on Breaksea island. AMSG is a team of passionate maritime professionals that work across various sectors but it is our traditional craft and being entrusted by AMSA to maintain these beautiful structures that reminds us just how important the work we do is.
17.01.2022 The first lighthouse at this location was built in 1858 by English convicts using pre-made cast iron sheeting rising it at the center of an octagonal stone keeper's cottage; in 1889 two keeper's cottages were built. This lighthouse was replaced in 1901 by a cylindrical granite tower built on the rear still active and in good condition. Does anyone know where this is?
17.01.2022 Nice pictures of Breaksea Island lighouse being revamped by AMS Group and IPCQ staff. Thanks AMSA for the opportunity! Can't wait to see it finished... :-)

09.01.2022 Happy New Year everyone! Hope you all enjoyed a great break and are ready for what 2020 will bring... :-) Let's start the year with a beautiful picture of the Montague Island lighthouse and a bit of history: Montague Island is a continental island contained within the Montague Island Nature Reserve, a protected nature reserve that is located offshore from the South Coast region of New South Wales, in eastern Australia. Montague Island is the second largest island off the New... South Wales east coast. Its lighthouse was designed in 1873 and completed in 1981, then automated in 1986 and demanned in 1987. The lighthouse is 21 metres tall and offers a great vantage point for whale watching. See more

08.01.2022 Happy Day of the Seafarer! And our thoughts are with all the Seafarers stuck at sea in the middle of this global pandemic. This day commemorates and recognizes the importance of transportation of objects/persons by sea. This observance was first celebrated by the International Maritime Organization in 2010 and the organization then declared that every June 25th would be the Day of the Seafarer.

03.01.2022 A little quarantine poem for today... Excerpt from To Bless the Space Between Us by John O'Donoghue (2008) This is the time to be slow, Lie low to the wall... Until the bitter weather passes. Try, as best you can, not to let The wire brush of doubt Scrape from your heart All sense of yourself And your hesitant light. If you remain generous, Time will come good; And you will find your feet Again on fresh pastures of promise, Where the air will be kind And blushed with beginning. Enjoy your day...!
03.01.2022 Happy Monday everyone! May you all have a wonderful week (Photo by Hernan Pauccara)
02.01.2022 High Peak Island - AMSA AtoN High Peak Island is part of the Duke Islands, which are part of the Northumberland Islands. The Northumberland Islands are to the south-east of the city of Mackay, Northern Qld. All islands are of the continental type. The island group was named by James Cook during his historic voyage along Australia's eastern seaboard in 1770, after the First Duke of Northumberland, Hugh Percy. Those islands are remote, and apart from charter flights to Marble Island, they are accessible only by private yacht or by helicopter when work is required on its Aid to Navigation.
