24.01.2022 There are two types of inflammation: acute and chronic. People are most familiar with acute inflammation. This is the redness, warmth, swelling, and pain around tissues and joints that occurs in response to an injury, like when you cut yourself. When the body is injured, your immune system releases white blood cells to surround and protect the area. In contrast, when inflammation gets turned up too high and lingers for a long time, and the immune system continues to pump out white blood cells and chemical messengers that prolong the process, that's known as chronic inflammation. https://www.health.harvard.edu//understanding-acute-and-ch

24.01.2022 We are 100% there for the South Australian approach to the COVID-19 outbreak. You've got this.

23.01.2022 "Comfort eating and/or drinking, ‘slacking off’ and overworking were the body’s way of sustaining us while we were staying home, away from the virus, staying physiologically safe and keeping others safe. They were the body’s way of maintaining a degree of pleasure, connection, normality or purpose in a necessarily restrictive situation. How very clever." 22.01.2022 "It’s the nature of chronic pain that the injury it’s warning you about, sometimes very loudly, isn’t actually there. This can be seen in a person’s posture as they sit and walk in a way that protects that non-injury. By gently confronting the pain, the person can eventually reclaim their normal posture and walk more confidently. Through that, they feel stronger within themselves and more in control of their pain." https://www.sydney.edu.au//how-pain-changes-your-brain.html

17.01.2022 AMT is pleased to provide this replay of today's webinar "Ongoing COVID-19 risk assessment for massage therapists". Many thanks to Scott Lloyd-Owen, Liz Sharkey and Lesley Carter for the insight and knowledge.

15.01.2022 "I asked a specialist to explain to me the basic neural mechanisms and nerve hypersensitivities that I experience. Although I still don’t have an official diagnosis, this explanation gives me some sense of what’s causing the pain. Knowing this has helped me to both accept and deal with my pain better. It also helps clear some of the uncertainty for me." https://www.bmj.com/content/371/bmj.m3571

11.01.2022 "Participatory policy-making like this is easier when the government treats people as co-producers of solutions, not distant observers or barriers to change. 01.01.2022 Testing of commonly available fabric masks has found they significantly reduce the number of aerosolised viruses a wearer could be exposed to. The Flinders University study, published in Pathogens, found even the poorest performing mask filtered at least 50 per cent of viruses.
