25.01.2022 We recently wrote to the NSW Minister for Skills and Tertiary Education Geoff Lee - MP, Seat of Parramatta letting him know that the current redevelopment of Meadowbank TAFE will make it harder for apprentices to study manufacturing trades. Now in the new state budget, there is no support for manufacturing apprentices and hardly any investment in the TAFE system. Instead, all the government has promised is a Trades Skills Pathway Centre that it says will help women and mature workers enter trades, along with some funding for campus redevelopment and maintenance. This is not good enough. Our TAFE system and our apprentices deserve actual investment and support, not vague commitments.
24.01.2022 The NSW government is delivering the 2020-21 budget on Tuesday, November 17. This budget will contain cuts to public sector wages. Public sector unions will be holding an action at Parliament House -- at 12 pm on Monday, November 16 -- in opposition to the cuts and the Premier’s threat to cut public sector jobs across the state. AMWU NSW stands in solidarity with public sector workers and condemns any cuts to jobs and wages in the sector.
