21.01.2022 Up to 300 manufacturing workers will be left jobless and cashless over the Christmas break after Australia’s largest printing group Ovato applies for court permission to avoid paying redundancy. Ovato are trying to strip four of the companies in their group assets leaving behind 300 workers in the newly insolvent companies. These workers have bent over backwards to support their company and their co-workers. When the pandemic hit, they took a 40 per cent pay cut to try and k...eep the company afloat. In an agreement that was approved on 6 November they agreed to limit their redundancy pay so that the company could afford to pay them their entitlements while still remaining viable. It is clear that the company had to plan to pay those entitlements, having planned all along to put that cost on the taxpayers instead. SHAME on you Ovato, it's not good enough!

10.01.2022 Why is the Federal government refusing to do what’s best for the Defence force? Perhaps it’s because they want to make it into a political football and kick it closer to a Federal election? The best outcome would be for these subs to be built here in our first class facilities and where the submariners live.

10.01.2022 Check this out! We have an organiser vacancy coming up in the South West, and we need a dedicated person to step up!

10.01.2022 Today is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. AMWU delegate, Ross (pictured - back row with long beard), is spearheading the AMWU's campaign on family violence leave after coming face to face with the difficulties workers escaping violent situations face when assisting a colleague. We’re pushing to get the AMWU’s new family violence leave clause in every food EBA negotiated from 2021, said Ross.... It means someone in one of the most vulnerable situations of their life can access 20 days paid leave that doesn’t come out of their personal or annual leave." People say people might lie but would you? Would you tell your work colleagues that? No member would fake a family violence claim just to go to the beach. The AMWU supports the fight for the elimination of violence against women today, and every day.

10.01.2022 The WA Government agrees: we can and should do Full Cycle Docking here in WA.

06.01.2022 Eddie is a third year apprentice fitter and turner at Balmain Ferries, and he wants to let you know about a really concerning proposal being looked at by the government. "The government would like to abolish apprenticeships as we know them. This is something that we can't stand for. They want to abolish our on the job training and just have us go to TAFE. Pretty much everything I've learned has been on the job and it's been clarified at TAFE. ... We signed up for a four year apprenticeship. To get rid of our on the job training I think is an absolute joke." You can sign up below to attend our online apprentice mass meetings on MONDAY the 16th of November at 5pm https://www.amwu.org.au/save_apprenticeships_2 Bring along your Comrades and fellow apprentices! Not an AMWU apprentice? Show your support by signing the petition! https://www.megaphone.org.au/.../keep-apprentices-on-the...
