23.01.2022 Earlier this month the voice community said farewell to a leader in our field: my teacher, mentor and much-admired colleague Kristin Linklater. Kristin passed away at her home in Orkney having left a profound impact on voice teaching and actor training. I came to know Kristin’s work while I was at uni, but I came to know Kristin when I had the opportunity to observe her work for a couple of semesters at Columbia University in New York. Later on, I was accepted into Kristin's ...teacher-training program and was fortunate to spend a formative period of my life learning from her, first in New York and then in Orkney, Scotland. Training with Kristin was rigorous, intense and utterly brilliant. She was fiercely selective about the teachers she trained and her expectations of us were enormous. Kristin was known for her fiery spirit; she had an incredible way of making me feel overwhelmingly safe and unbelievably scared at the same time. Over the years the relationship changed, we were colleagues in the field of voice and speech. We talked about the state of the arts and theatre in Australia, what was going on in Australian drama schools, and the future of voice training here. She was incredibly supportive of the VASTA Annual Conference I was Co-Directing that was due to held in Sydney next month. I’m honoured to have been her student, her colleague and her peer, and I only hope I can do her work justice as one of the community of Designated Linklater Teachers. Farewell Kristin ....... Please support The Kristin Linklater Appeal. We need your help to secure the future of the Kristin Linklater Voice Centre and the continuation of Kristin’s legacy. We believe that KLVC can and will open again, to welcome students and teachers back to the place that Kristin herself created and which lies at the heart of everything she did. https://www.gofundme.com/f/kristin-linklater-appeal

19.01.2022 I was interviewed by the team at Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) for this piece about looking after your voice when teaching online, out today in Teacher Magazine. As teachers, lecturers and professors find themselves facilitating lessons and lectures from their homes, many are experiencing greater vocal fatigue than normal. This piece looks at the Zoom phenomenon and suggests strategies for preventing vocal fatigue. https://www.teachermagazine.com.au//vo...cal-fatigue-and-onli Has teaching in the online environment affected your voice in any way? Have you noticed any differences?

13.01.2022 The Australian Voice Association has re-published my article How to use your voice when teaching online as part of their Covid-related resources. A *huge* number of people have been experiencing vocal fatigue from teaching on platforms like Zoom and asking why it’s happening and how to prevent it. It’s confusing - you’re sitting at home, there’s not too much background noise, so why on earth does your voice feel tired and strained at the end of the day?!... This articles looks at why vocal fatigue is happening and how to avoid it. https://australianvoiceassociation.com.au//how-to-use-you/

10.01.2022 Sensational! Look out for Linklater Live events coming up to warm up with some amazing teachers from across the world!

05.01.2022 Friday inspo! Take a look at this story about the performing arts department at the University of Maryland who are making live theatre with their students via video conference amidst the current crisis. They're also conducting research as they go, to document the experience. We’re really confident that we’re developing a methodology to continue teaching our students how to perform and how to work in the real world. And, right now, this is the real world.... Well done to my dear friends and colleagues Lisa Nathans and Leigh Smiley at the helm of this project. https://www.washingtonpost.com//e5898f72-8572-11ea-ae26-98
