21.01.2022 I remember when I first started my business, the thought of having to put myself out there on social media totally freaked me out I was never really an ‘over sharer’ on social media. Quite frankly, I didn’t think anyone would and should care about the insta worthy coffee I just had where the barista tried an o so fancy design on my cappuccino But when it comes to attracting the right people to work with you as a coach or consultant, particularly in the online world we ex...ist in - being online is no longer just a ‘nice to have’ its a necessity! In today’s climate you can’t just rely on ad hoc word of mouth and referrals or head to networking events to generate opportunities if you want to future proof your business Particularly if you are looking to work with key decision makers (hint: LinkedIn is the game you need to be playing right now) And where most people go wrong is thinking that if they just start doing online what you’ve been doing offline, a flood of new business will miraculously appear I hate to break it to you, but that’s just not the case. And if you’re thinking that way, it’s actually not your fault You see, most people will just tell you that because it’s what you want to hear but they won’t spill the beans on what ACTUALLY goes on behind the scenes. But I know differently... For many people, just the thought of someone saying something negative about them online will stop them from ever sharing their message and growing their online presence. and when I first started posting content here on LinkedIn it was something that worried me too (we're all human!)... BUT here's what I realised... It's actually never as bad in reality as what you may think in your head Plus the 'block' button comes in handy if you ever need it Ahmad Imam and I have spoken about this many times at different events before and I recently caught up with him where we got chatting about this topic again. 20.01.2022 This event was just over a year ago and wow have things changed since... Squishing so many people into a room for an event with General Assembly was just the norm and now, just looking at this image will likely make a few people freak out. The thing I loved most about these events was the ability to pull back the curtain and authentically share practical tips and tools to genuinely connect and help people with their LinkedIn strategy in their businesses and career. ... but just because we aren't physically in a room together, shouldn't mean that you can't access the strategies I've already 'battle tested' in my own business on LinkedIn So I've put together my sharing the 4 steps that I took to launch my own business and brand using LinkedIn, without LinkedIn taking over my life! This allowed me to quit my corporate job within 12 weeks and dive headfirst into being my own boss a few years back and I still use them in my business today, even in the current climate. 19.01.2022 Just strolling along in your business will no longer cut it here's what I mean... There's no doubt that the year 2020 will be one to remember. ... For everyone, but I want to just speak to the coaches, consultants and speakers here for a moment. 12.01.2022 In order to start an online business you need a ‘laptop lifestyle’ magazine worthy shot right? wrong Let me explain...... Most people start off thinking that if they just have ‘all the things’ than their business will miraculously take off They start focusing on the wrong things first Like fancy business cards (back in the day for when networking events were a thing) Or a must have designer award worthy website And don’t forget about having to have the perfect workspace with matching on trend home office accessories (although I’ll admit I do love a nice notebook) The reality is that these are just nice to haves in the beginning but not at all necessary And to tell you the truth, when I started out it looked more like this: - no business cards, instead I just asked people to add me on LinkedIn - a basic website that cost me $250 and functioned terribly. No joke the ‘contact me form’ didn’t even work for the first 3 months - and instead of the fancy office I ditched my apartment and moved back in with my parents and started my business working from their dining room table And ONLY when my business was up and running did I then go back to focus on the ‘fancy things’ Although, I’m still yet to get business cards and probably never will The reason I’m sharing this with you is if you’re wanting to start your own business but are feeling stuck it’s probably because you are focused on the wrong things in the wrong order Instead, just focus on the first most important steps you need to take aka enrolling your first few clients and THEN worry about the rest later and don’t beat yourself up if things aren’t perfect along the way...spoiler alert, there’s no perfect in business or life for that matter anyways! Now stop scrolling through social media, it’s time to get to work on that business of yours... Amy x PS. 06.01.2022 Getting behind the camera can be an intimidating thing or at least it was for me when I started my business and had to start 'putting myself out there' on social media. In fact, it took me 6 hours to post my first video.... 2 minutes to shoot it and 5 hours, 58 minutes before I built up the courage to actually post it. I wish I could give you a silver bullet or a magic pill that will give you the instant confidence that you want in order to start posting what you know will... help your clients and audience online but I like to keep it REAL (and unfortunately most others out there won't ever tell you this) but the REAL secret is that confidence comes with ACTION. So the quicker you can take CONSISTENT action, the quicker your confidence will grow and the faster your results will show. look I made a rhyme PS. 02.01.2022 Most people never achieve what they REALLY want because they're secretly waiting for permission. Agree? I shared this during my virtual keynote at The Future Of Work Summit recently. Real talk - as a coach, I've found all too often that when most people tell me the results they REALLY want, it often ends in a BUT.... For example...I want to launch my coaching business BUT I'm not smart enough... BUT I don't have the confidence to 'put myself out there online'... BUT I'm worried about what others will think... BUT I don't have enough experience.... and the list goes on... and here's the kicker - RARELY will people actually verbalise this. It's just the silent voice in their head that continually holds them back and they wait and they wait and they wait hoping that things will just change on their own BUT unfortunately they don't. Why? Because no one can give you permission to do what you actually want to do - except for YOU. In a year of change, turmoil and uncertainty the absolute best thing you can do is simply just give yourself PERMISSION to think differently and do things differently. No one can do it for you.
