24.01.2022 Food is medicine, and it’s easy to make Liver qi boosting and supporting meals to keep your liver organ and system working well. I forage from my backyard and eat ‘weeds’ which I purposely propagate and encourage. These are beneficial liver and gallbladder herbs I eat when they are at their peak. Some of these plants are bitter (chicory, dandelion, sows thistle) so I don’t tend to eat them as stand alone greens, although I do if it’s all that’s growing at the time. Instead I... mix them up with other herbs, like I have done today. Here we have plantain, violet leaves, and chickweed with chicory and sows thistle, as well as fresh herbs which I have growing: parsley, oregano, thyme, rosemary and sage which all went into today’s mix. Because the flavour of the liver is sour, I need to add a sour component to my spring greens, I add sauerkraut and some vinegar from my home made pickled ginger which I keep when all the ginger has been eaten. This is also a dose of probiotics. I sprinkle on a pinch of my kelp salt for kidney system and avocado for the fat content (some vitamins such as vitamin A are fat soluble so need a fat eaten with it, and iron needs vitamin C eaten with it to absorb the iron from the greens, which is abundant in red sauerkraut but also in the leaves themselves). What we have is a herbal concoction for lunch, that moves and nourishes liver, gallbladder, stomach, spleen, lung and kidney through the balance of their flavours of sour, bitter, sweet, pungent and salty, as well as being incredibly dense in minerals, vitamins and probiotics. Natures multivitamin. Would you be interested in learning more about this? If you want the recipe for the ginger you can just scroll down through previous posts to find it, or I will post it in the comments if you can’t find it. Pics are of weed salad mix being washed in the sink, and the finished result just before devouring. PS, it was delicious.

17.01.2022 Another green food post for liver season! I have rescued some asparagus that I forgot about in the crisper, and sautéed it gently with the tender flower shoots from false dandelion/cats ear. You can eat the tender buds off dandelions, sow thistle and wild lettuce too, and when gently cooked taste something like asparagus! Eating fresh picked wild greens in spring is so good for the liver system. I pick these from my backyard, where I deliberately cultivate them for food. ... If you use synthetic fertilisers, weed and insect killing chemicals, please don’t eat your weeds, as it may be harmful and make you sick.

17.01.2022 Spring is here, and spring pairs with the liver! The emotional aspect will be palpable right now, as liver qi when out of balance arise as anger and frustration. Because it’s completely normal to feel emotions, and experiencing emotions such as anger and frustration as a healthy aspect of human life, being able to experience these emotions without being taken over by them, consumed by them, or dumping them on others is a huge part of liver qi regulation and health. We can he...Continue reading
