06.01.2022 Pitta Season We are well and truly into the Pitta season here in the southern hemisphere, where the element of fire has been in abundance Pitta is a combination of the elements of fire and water.... These manifest as hot, slightly oily, smooth, sharp and light qualities This time of year we can find ourselves becoming over heated, making us feel hot, irritable, angry, frustrated, judgmental, prone to road rage, burning sensations, skin conditions can flare up, loose bowel motions, and acid reflux may be experienced, to name but a few. When pitta is in balance in our bodies, we have strong digestion due to our agni (digestive fire). We have determination, a strong will, passion, intelligence a desire to learn and understand, perfectionism. At this time of year, we need to pay more attention to balance our pitta, and cool down. We can do this through eating cooling foods, such as lots of fresh coriander, tofu, cucumber, watermelon, coconut, drink tender coconut water, rose water. More sweet, bitter and astringent foods. Avoiding food that this too hot, sour, salty or spicy. Taking walks in the full moon Cool baths with rose petals and milk (feel like Cleopatra) Wearing cool colours such as blues and greens. Wearing pearls, if you are lucky enough to own some. This is the time of year we can do self massage (abhyanga) with coconut oil, or oil pulling with coconut oil. Wear rose or sandalwood essential oils Practicing meditation, and restorative yoga to help cool our minds, bodies and emotions. Sheetali pranayama is most beneficial
