Just for today, I will work on my self. Just for today, I will be kind. Remembering to recite the reiki principals daily is something I sometimes forget when life gets too busy. Although I practice on myself each morning (and most nights!), Sometimes I forget that these simple truths can also lighten our load and help us find freedom within. So, just for today, I challenge you to recite each one three times, permit resonate and listen to what we comes up in your heart. Pay attention, be mindful, let these principals change your life for the greater . While right now, we can't do all the things we've always wanted to, now is the perfect time for redetermining what is truly important to us and start making that bucket list for when laws allow. . . 2020 isn't a write off, it's a chance to learn about ourselves. 23.01.2022 . As I settled into my half pigeon today on the yoga mat, I acknowledged the discomfort and unease I was feeling. I acknowledged the tightness in my hips. I acknowledged the thoughts in my head. I acknowledged the changes in my breath, the relaxation in my mind and my muscles as I sunk in deeper, longer. It took me back to my yoga teacher training @paramanandyoga in India with my Guruji setting the daily task of chosing an Asana we found difficulty with and in...creasing our time in it over a 30 day period documenting the mental, emotional and physical changes as they happened - and there were a lot!. The reason I come to this thought today is that again, an uncomfortable position for a lot of us has risen. Life is different. Life has changed. But like that challenge of my yoga training, we also have the opportunity to learn and grow from it if we just persevere. If we just sink into the discomfort. If we just see it as a challenge to overcome. If we can just notice the positive changes it creates - mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually. 2020 isn't the write off that some have been calling it; it's a chance to show how strong we are, the changes we need to make and the benefits we gain from perseverance. 23.01.2022 " , " - Hippocrates. Did you know that when we ensure correct nutritional needs are met, we can be healthier in our bodies, and happier in our minds? ... When you select a rainbow full of fresh, healthy foods (that is fruit & vegetables), and combine them with small portions of whole grains (quinoa, brown rice, quality breads etc.), nuts (almonds, Brazil nuts, hazelnuts are great), legumes and lean protein (about 100-120grams of chicken breast, white fish, turkey etc.); you will gain most of your daily nutritional requirements for a healthier body, mind and soul. By eating these foods, you will notice shifts in your mind like having better focus, more energy, less mental fog, more clarity, less emotional ups and downs, a calmer mindset, and as a result - a more positive outlook. Diets don't have to be complicated or eradicate entire macronutrient groups (e.g. carbohydrates), they just have to focus on eating good quality foods that will provide benefits for your body and mind. Want to know some other tricks to get your body and mind back on track via diet? Limit fast food intake. Eradicate simple sugars (white bread, cakes, biscuits, lollies etc.) Treat yourself instead to 2x square of quality dark chocolate (look for those that don't list sugar first!). Keep a food journal and see if certain foods make you bloated, give you digestive disruptions (e.g. dairy) and when/why you're eating. Don't eat when you're not actually hungry (E.g. bored, sad). Instead, try snacking on raw carrots, cucumber or celery and drink at least 2 litres of preferably filtered water per day. Stop trying to find your energy at the bottom of a coffee cup. Reconsider your portion sizes and energy output. Cut back on alcohol to ease your mind - it won't solve your problems. That being said, now is the perfect time to reset your health goals and your mindset - take back control, and don't forget to love your body no matter what it's size or shape . , D

23.01.2022 < When you have nothing, you have EVERYTHING > I remember my first trip to India way back in 2014. I was young, solo and so overwhelmed yet greatly humbled by all of the people I met, places I saw and experiences I had. My first trip was close to six months, and all I had was two backpacks to carry everything that mattered to me most. In fact, it was mostly clothes, a diary, some photos and a beautiful letter my brother wrote me. I remember that trip because it challenged m...e and changed me so much. It taught me to find good in all people. It taught me to always remain optimistic. It taught me to take chances, to overcome challenges and to never give up. One of the things I loved most about my journey was the inner growth I achieved along the way. I learned so much about myself by stepping out of my comfort zone, that it forced me to grow stronger in myself, realise who I was at the core, and have a chance to grow into that person I really wanted to become. Right now, restrictions in Melbourne have also forced us into a situation where we can't have all of the experiences we might want; but it has taught us to appreciate the simple things in life we have. The things that mean the most. The things that teach us to be humble. For me, this is the connections to people who light me up, my ability to help others heal through reiki and yoga, the ability to be in nature (with very little pollution!) and having found the love of my life to spend my days with. 21.01.2022 . "Just for today, I will be grateful for all that I have, and all that I am" . This is one of my morning mantras I repeat as part of my reiki practice before getting out of bed. The third of the five reiki principals is to practice gratitude, allowing you to focus on all that you have in life, rather than focusing on lack. And because we focus on the positive, the things we have in life, the things we feel grateful for, that bring love, success and purpose to our... lives; we help attract more of it. . . While some days during the 'coronacoaster' are harder than others, it's important that we remain focused on all of the gifts we have. The people that are there to lift us up and lend a shoulder to cry on. The beautiful Sunshine we have on our walks. The friendly faces we see on our social feeds. The warmth of our homes. The love of those who are most important. Our minds. Our bodies. Our health. Our memories. . . One of the things I'm really enjoying right now is looking back on old travel photos like this one, taken last year in Havana (Cuba) on part of my Honeymoon. It fills me with joy knowing I have made the most of life, that I have someone special to share this time with, that I have travelled much of the world when it was 'normal'. It makes me happy when I see those smiles, that beautiful sunset and remember the view, the meal, the music and the warmth in the air that night. . . 21.01.2022 Symbolism. If you've had one of my reiki sessions, you'll know that I LOOOOVE symbolism. I often see things in my mind's eye when 'in session', and love researching the spiritual meaning of which so I can help discover what might be going on for you, or a message that you may need to hear. While there is symbolism in almost ANYTHING, the ones I like to read into most are:. ... SPIRIT ANIMALS - these guys show up with strengths you need in your life right now. They are with you, supporting you on your journey, and guiding you to reach your next goal or point in your journey. NATURE - I believe that everyone has a nature dwelling that truly helps them restore the most. It could be mountains, a Forrest, a lake, or for me, the ocean. What's yours?. ANGEL NUMBERS - sometimes I will suddenly check the time, or look at my watch/phone when I finish a session and see it's a divinely guided number. This is a sign from your angels/guides, leaving a personal message that you truly need to hear. Remember, they are there whenever you need them, to guide, love and support you on your path with the universe. CHAKRAS & COLOURS - everything has a virbational energy, and this is often symbolic of where you are currently; and where you need to be. Blues and purples are associated with the higher, more spiritual base chakras; while reds, oranges and yellow are associated with the lower, more ground chakras. Pink and green? 21.01.2022 - -. Like every Sunday, I like to dedicate this day of the week to returning to my roots, grounding myself and being grateful for everything I have in my life. I like to spend time working out, being outdoors, breathing, meditating, being. I like to walk around bare foot, to connect with the earth, to stop thinking of the past and the future and just be in the moment. ... I like to surround myself with fresh air, watch the trees in the wind or the waves crashing down. I like feeling my feet in the sand, hearing the rain on the roof or enjoying the sun on my face. I like to do all of these things because it takes my mind off how complicated we make our lives; and focus on the simple gifts we have often taken for granted. 21.01.2022 . While I am incredibly grateful for being able to return to New Zealand during this challenging time, I am also enjoying the humbling experience that is managed isolation along the way. It has taught me much about myself in [so far] seven short days, most of which, are about the things I find true beauty in. When I look at the lessons from C-19 isolation, the most beautiful things I've come to appreciate are also the most simple:. ... Fresh air. A loving relationship. Family. The ocean. Nature. Friendships. Travel. Meaningful work. Commiting to my reiki & yoga practice. Laughter. Fresh, natural, healthy food. My physical and mental health. Staying fit and active. Meditation & Pranayama. Connection. When I think of this little list, I like to think about how grateful I am for each and every thing on there and how fulfilled they make me feel. I like to use it as a list to reflect on, to meditate on, to express gratitude for, and to bring more of into my life. The things on this list aren't just important to my daily life, but as markers for my own success as I see it. 20.01.2022 " , ..." . . Because so much of my younger years were based on lies, I can't stand it when someone isn't being truthful, no matter how big or small their 'little white lie' is. Lies can hold people captive, they can stop you living your best life and they can hurt other people often a lot more than the truth that will feel painful to share. .... . Honesty however, takes courage. It takes strength, it takes uncomfortable conversations and situations by laying everything on the table so there is no escape. . . Honesty takes deep breaths, truth seeking, soul baring and vulnerability. . . Honesty takes bravery, it takes risks and it takes an open heart. . . Honesty also, paves the way for a greater life where you can reach for the best thing you'll ever have: personal freedom. . . While telling the truth isn't easy; it's the freedom to be utterly and completely yourself that can truly set you free. It allows the baggage you've been holding on to downgrade to 'carry on'; it allows you to stop holding onto past hurts and start moving forward; it allows you to ask for the help you might really need; it allows you to confront people and situations that have wronged you and claim back your power over them and it allows your vulnerability to be the inspiration that others might need to create change in their own lives. . . Most of all though, it allows you to stop living in a lie of a life, and open yourself up to the one you truly, utterly and completely deserve to be - no matter how 'bad' the lie might seem, it will always appear worse in your head. . . So if you're constantly telling others "I'm great!" when you're not; "there's nothing wrong" when there is; or you have something you just need to challenge and overcome, start doing the internal work you need to gain that courage to face it, and when the time feels right - leap, and the net will appear. . . 19.01.2022 ---< >---. Today I woke from the most amazing sleep, and felt a sense of gratitude and appreciation like never before. Why? Because I'm lucky enough to be able to return home to New Zealand to spend a lengthy period with my family and beloved friends, to stay in my home town (it's actually a city), and hopefully, reopen a reimagined "Anahata Reiki & Wellness" in a physical sense. Through my years of living in Australia, I have frequently gone home for periods o...f 3-6 months at a time to remind myself who I am, where I come from and to reconnect with those important to me, and now, more than ever, that ability means the world. Today, I woke up feeling that appreciation of the long winded journey it has taken to be here in NZ isolation. I felt appreciation for having this time to just rest, reorder and rebalance. I felt appreciation for the amazing hotel staff at @naumihotels Auckland for their kind nature's, warm smiles and the food fairy deliveries. I feel appreciation for having a balcony to sit on, fresh air to breath and walk in, and for knowing that soon, I will have freedoms that I have missed. I feel appreciation for the journey that led me here, the people that have helped it come to life and to all of my amazing clients in Melbourne - that I will dearly miss. Most of all though, I feel appreciation for every waking, breathing moment that lifts my spirit and leads me closer to my goal; to help others heal from the inside out. Thank-you to my loyal followers, friends and family for always encouraging this journey forward, and today, just for one day, let's all focus on what we have come to appreciate in life and the good lessons covid has allowed. Our lives may be limited in the fact that we can't do what we've always wanted to do or go where we've never been right now; but it doesn't mean we have to narrow our vision to adjust. .... . This time of great limitations allows us to rise to the challenge of being creative, exploring new boundaries and learning new ways to grow. . . It allows us to understand the bubble of restriction, and forge a 'new norm' of being. It enables us in exploring new depths of self discovery, purpose, destiny, self love and self care. . . It allows us to do those. home based projects we've always put off, to host virtual 'dinner dates' that we said we would always do, to workout with people from all over the world, to learn something new on YouTube, to explore the depths of a new land through a documentary. . . It allows us to go on a soul-searching adventure within, to appreciate all that we have and all that we are, to feel grateful for our healthy bodies, to be in awe of our able minds, to fall in love with the people we are or to figure out who we really want to become. . . 19.01.2022 Let us begin . . They say "a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step"; but does it mean we always have to know our final destination? Sometimes we run with ideas, follow our flow or 'chase that feeling' when life is leading us on the right path. We might not know exactly where we are going, but our gut instincts tell us we are right. .... . However, one of the common stressors in life, is feeling like you don't have a 'path' to follow. That you haven't found your purpose. That you are constantly working towards a goal that doesn't feel right for you in your bones, because you're too afraid to take a breather, look around and find something better. Something more fulfilling. More daring. More brave. . . We are often conditioned in life to follow the path of those before us; to University, get a good job and climb the corporate ladder having met the love of our lives, marrying, buying a home, and creating 2.5 beautiful children - but what if this doesn't feel right for you? What if you followed the rules and you wake up one day unfulfilled or unhappy? What if you look at your life and it doesn't feel like who you were born to become? What if you feel like the life you are living feels like you're lying to yourself? . . Let us begin again. . . It's also common to wake up one day and have all of those thoughts and feelings. To feel so afraid of making any changes that you remain stuck in a life that doesn't belong. To know that change would be the right thing to do, but felt helpless to do so. To feel so consumed by others people's expectations, that instead of letting them down; you let down yourself. . . It's times like these that we can truly reflect, build our strength, find space and take time to ponder our purpose. It's times like these that we can leave the safety of our comfort zones. We are all undergoing stress as lifestyles change, new burdens appear, finances have to adjust, arguments start, we move less, eat more and our health changes; but do you know the real impact of stress when it goes unmanaged? Now is not the time to be putting yourself down, for burying yourself under the duvet (doona for my Australian friends!), for comparison to social media, for neglecting your health, for being too hard on yourself, for over-exercising and putting more stress on your body, for hating on your body image, for letting anger brew, for judgement. Now is the time to be gentle with yourself, to indulge in self-care, self-love, self TIME. Now is the time for creating relaxing regimes, simple goals, being kind to each other, creating fun, balancing your energy, getting enough sleep, appreciating everything you have, working when you can, practicing gratitude, connecting with friends online, learning a new skill, being silly, laughing more often, getting some fresh air, being as positive as you can, spending time in nature and allowing life to unfold and a new routine to appear. 17.01.2022 . . The fight-or-flight response is a physiological reaction that occurs in response to a perceived harmful event, attack, or threat to our mental or physical survival. .... . The terminology represents the choices that our ancient ancestors had when faced with danger in their environment - T they could either fight for their life, or flee for the best chance of survival. In either case, the physiological and psychological response to stress prepares the body to react to the danger. . . Right now, a lot of us are going through this on a daily basis, and while our threat may not be a four legged beast; it may arise in the form of work-overload, stressors at home, relationship crises, sudden increases in responsibilities or perhaps, living in an environment of which we are feeling like we have lost control. . . While sometimes we don't even feel we are stressed; the restless nights, monkey mind, racing heart, sweaty palms, expansion of the lungs, boost of energy from the liver and construction of blood vessels, refuse to agree. . . When this happens, we have a choice. We can stay and fight our way through, or we can find an alternative. . . Right now, I have made the tough decision to return to my hometown to be with family, to offer the love and support to the ones I care for most, to utilise my gifts of reiki and to get comfortable with the discomfort in change. I've chosen to temporarily uproot life, to work through the pros and cons, to make a hard decision that is hopefully the right one in order to move forward. . . While I know I am not alone in having to make calls like this, I do also appreciate c-19 highlighting to me what matters most - love. 17.01.2022 Make Time. Have you ever noticed, that when life gets a little crazy, to stop making time for your soulful practices? For some reason, we stop 'finding time' to slow down and create practices that soothe our mind, body and soul. Which often means, we instead worry about fitting everything we WANT to do into our day and let go of the luxuries that we should be deeming as a NEED. ... What of you could have your cake and eat it too? All it takes is 5-20 of carved out time. That's an early alarm. That's time your currently not spending in traffic. That's a mid-morning social media binge, that can actually reign in your focus, anxiety and efficiency. Here's some quick fix examples: PRANAYAMA | alternative nostril breathing | 8-10 rounds | five minutes = clearer mind, deeper breathing, balances the nervous system, reduces stress, promotes balance, prepares for meditation. MEDITATION | I use 'Urban Yogi' when I'm short on time. It has meditations from 6-20 minutes, and also some great playlists to keep you focused during the day, as well as music and meditations to aid sleep at night. YOGA | pick 3 Asanas for 6-8 yogic breaths each | 10-15 minutes and notice how your body feels - stiff, relaxed, sore, tight, cold, fatigues - there's no wrong answer, your just noticing how you feel and how that might effect your emotions and day ahead | loosens tightness and anxiety, refocus breath, boosts relaxation and increases flexibility. BURN INCENSE | 1 minute to clear your mind and physical space. DANCE | Just one song! | Releases endorphins (happy hormones), gets you moving, wakes you up, brings a smile to your face, makes you remember what it's like to BE FREE! | Five mins. MANTRA | "I am strong, capable, focused and successful" | repeat 5 times | five mins | Motivated, focused, happy, determined - well, aren't you?! .

16.01.2022 . When we think of nourishing our bodies, we instantly think of a plate full of greens, adequate lean protein, whole grains and all those fibre rich fruits and vegetables - right?. . It's important for the physical body to be nourished with the right ingredients to have a strong immune & digestive health system (among other things), but it's also important that we nourish our mind and soul in equal parts. ... . . How? . . Pay attention to what you are reading, what you are watching and what you are viewing, and how that information shapes your mind. Pay attention to what you are saying - are you gossiping about friends/family? Are you speaking with negativity? Are you focusing on the worst? Are you in a victim mindset? Find the positive every day in every way. . . Focus on your goals. Do you have any? Are they achievable? Are they realistic? Specific? Do they need a refresher? . . Practice self-love. Tell yourself how proud you are of all that you've done. Tell yourself you are wonderful. Tell yourself you are loved, you are amazing, and that you are well and truly ENOUGH. 15.01.2022 Are You An HSP?. Before I get into this... I'm now here for another week and taking bookings up until Thursday 5th August - hope to see you soon! . Chances are, you've never heard of the term 'highly sensitive person' (HSP), as it's not something they teach you in school, nor speak about within society. But if you associate with it, you can begin to use it as your personal superpower . ... Highly sensitive people might be seen as weak and emotionally unstable, but it's only because we have to process a lot of stimulus - all the time. The main negative is that HSP's often take on other people's energy (mostly negative stuff) and can't always identify that it's not there own. This can cause a lot of wild emotions like feeling stressed, anxious, sad, lonely or heartbroken and without taking a moment to ask "Is this MY emotion I'm feeling?" they can easily become overwhelmed. This being said, they are also often drained in group settings, though not all HSP's are introverts either. The bonuses of being an HSP though, is that we are imaginative, creative, empathetic, soulful, spiritual, have big hearts, make great listeners, are intuitive, and can create m a g i c . There are so many great things about HSP's that can be used to an advantage in a work, social or family setting, so instead of using it as a victim card - play it as your superpower. In saying this, you also need to learn how to protect yourself so others energy doesn't bring you down, get lots of rest (alone as often as possible to deeply recharge), practice self care and self awareness (check in with where your emotions are and if they make sense), and ground with nature. As you go about your busy day in modern society, you are most likely already living in a state of 'fight or flight' just getting everything done. Add some coffee, strenuous exercise, lack of sleep and a stressful environment without prioritising self-care and your adrenal glands suddenly come under fire too. Long term, this can create adrenal fa...tigue causing lethargy, inflammation, weight gain, mood swings, hormonal imbalance and other symptoms. So while you might figure reaching for another coffee might help motivate you to exercise your way out of it, your best bet is to actually do the opposite and learn how to R E L A X. WANT SOME IDEAS? 14.01.2022 Holding Space . Holding space means being physically, mentally, and emotionally present for someone else. It means putting your focus on someone to support them as they feel their motives, emotions & feelings, removing all judgement, and allowing them to just 'be'. In yoga, we are sometimes asked by the teacher to 'dedicate' our practice to someone that is in need of this kind of emotional, mental or spiritual care, which can be a beautiful way of losing sight of judge...ment and practicing patience for someone you truly care about. In meditation, we can also practice 'holding space' for those who need it just by letting go of our own thoughts, problems or situations and practicing empathy for those that need it most. Next time you want to really be there for someone that is struggling through a tough time, consider 'holding space' for them. Consider being there to listen to their issues without judging. Consider letting go of your own sh#$ or jumping in to comparison. I read a great post yesterday from both @jamessmithpt and @jessjonesyoga all about how we should take the pressure of ourselves right now to be thriving, and focusing on what we can do to survive in this challenging time; because it is a GLOBAL PANDEMIC. .... . In this time like we have never experienced before, it is unjust to think that we can keep going at full speed to achieve all of our wants, dreams or even daily tasks. It is unjust to spring out of bed every day full of energy, ready to workout, to do yoga, to face the day. It is also unjust to believe that we are failing ourselves because we can't do the things that are high on our priority list, and we lack motivation, inspiration and energy. . . In the current climate, life is hard. We are all trying to do the best we can, to ride the wave of emotions, to wake up to more uncertainty. We are all trying to do our best to support local business (even if we have lost our own jobs), to stay positive, to be kind to others even on the days we're not 'feelin' it'. We are all trying to eat well, to exercise, to keep our social connections and to not compare our lives in lockdown to those who seem to have more freedoms. . . Right now, all we can do is take each new day as a fresh start. To offer ourselves the compassion we give to others. To find something positive to be grateful for. 13.01.2022 Hibernation . Winter is a time for many of us that forces hibernation, and for some that means deep introspection. It's a time to go 'within', to rest, to reflect. It's a time to practice slowness, softness and self-care. It's a time that we need to be more patient, loving and giving to ourselves which is only a result firstly, of giving ourselves that permission. Aiding this, is another forced lockdown that presents us with this very opportunity - to stop always 'doing'... (or keeping up with the rat-race of life), and encouraging our more feminine aspects to come out. There is a lot to be learned and earned from this gift, and if we slowed down and stopped resisting, we might just rediscover our own sense of flow, ease and grace. That means, that we are OVER half way down to potential freedoms we will appreciate more than ever before. .... . It means that there is the premise of light at the end of the tunnel (again). It means we have something to look forward to. It means we have something to hold on to. . . While I'm not sure what it is you have missed the most, for me, it has certainly been treating my beloved clients with the healing power of reiki, hearing their stories, noticing their changes and being part of their journey. 11.01.2022 , ' . Success comes in many forms, but for most, the ultimate goal is a thriving career. While I applaud men and women who harness this success effortlessly; it doesn't mean that the rest of us should feel any lesser knowing this isn't the path for everyone. It's not 'written' for everyone. It's not practical for everyone. Its not on the cards for all of us. ... It doesn't mean we are not successful at life; it just means that we have different strengths, different personalities, different goals and different traits. It could also mean that we once went down that career hungry path and realized; it made us miserable (yes that's me!). For the latter, it's sometimes hard to believe that a thriving career isn't on our plate. It's hard to believe that it costs us too much of our mental strength and inner peace to try and fit into a box that wasn't made for us circular beings. It's hard to believe that all of our ambition needs to be directed in a new angle, and that over time and with practice; we are destined to thrive in our own beautiful light. While a yoga class is typically made up of bending, stretching, strengthening and flexing; savasana is your final resting posture to induce a meditative mindset, to let go, to truly rest. .... . Savasana is the posture that allows you to reconnect with your body, mind & soul and disconnect from your physical practice. It is the posture that is hardest, because it requires this sense of stillness. It is the posture where your mind starts to become overactive, because your body is under-active. It is the posture some will find pointless, while it actually provides the most purpose. . Savasana, allows the deepest muscles in the body to truly let go after twisting, flexing, turning and inverting. Savasana gives the nervous system the opportunity to integrate all of the neuromuscular information from the physical session, and find union within. . . While it may appear that you are simply 'laying on a mat', Savasana is figuritively like the death of all negative thoughts, emotions and physical discomfort; giving us a chance to find rebirth within a more positive mindset - if only for a few moments. . . : Calms central nervous system, aiding the digestive and immune systems.Calms the mind and reduces stress.Reduces headache, fatigue and anxiety.Helps lower blood pressure. 10.01.2022 f C . . "The practice of taking action to preserve or improve one's own health" .... . Self care is a phrase that gets thrown around all too often alongside bubble baths, massages and pampering. While these are certainly elements of self preservation when we have time, there are simple, daily actions we also need to take into consideration; and they require constant effort. . . 1) Nutrition - while right now most of us want to binge on junk food, you'll notice how this makes you feel depleted energetically, your hair lack lustre and your skin - dull, oily and acne prone. The right nutrition should be about getting a range of unpackaged foods; a rainbow of vegetables, fruits, fish, meat, nuts, grains and seeds. I'm no nutritionist (give me time!), but I also know Hippocrates had it right when he said "let food be thy medicine, and let medicine by thy food". . . 2) Movement - You might naturally be an energiser bunny and love Hiit training, maybe you prefer slow movement or yoga to balance your busy mind, or perhaps even a balance of resistance training, hiking, dancing, running and Muay Thai. Just make sure you move for at least 30 minutes a day, try and break a sweat 2-3 times per week, and don't over train - rest days are just as important for your progress. . . 3) Mindfulness, Meditation & Mental Health - When you start your day by jumping into your phone, do you feel the anxiety rise before you even get a chance to check in and feel your breath? When you take time to connect with your body and breath, your mind stills and you enable focus starting your day with calmness and clarity. . . There are so many more, but right now, simply being kind to ones self is of utmost importance - and the last thing you need is a new list of 'things I should be doing'. 08.01.2022 Right now, I'm doing a 21 day challenge with Kula Yoga around self-care which means that everyday until September 13 my goal is to spend some time taking care of my own person. There's a large mix of yoga, meditation and pranayama involved, but OFF THE MAT, there are also a range of things we can practice everyday in our spare time to make sure that WE are happy and healthy and car therefore be better at taking care of others too. Examples to create more #selfcare in your l...ife - Embrace change ~ Let go of old ways of thinking and doing things a certain way just because you always have. Enjoy change for the chances it brings and start doing things that make you happy. Schedule time for you ~ Finding time for self care can be hard. You have work to get done, kids to look after, a business to run, a house to clean, meals to cook. Everyday tasks seem to take up any spare time you may have had. Allocate time for self care every day (put it in your planner) and make sure to take that time. Say no ~ It can be hard. People may not be happy about it, but does it make you feel better? Do you feel less stressed and less overwhelmed for not being everything to everyone? Ask for help ~ You do not need to do everything by yourself. You do not need to be everything to everyone. Ask loved ones, friends, colleagues, or a professional for help when you need it. Mistakes are ok ~ Take a minute, admit the mistake then move on to how you can fix it. Pick yourself up, learn from it, and don't punish or criticise yourself. Your word ~ Write down a positive word, phrase, mantra, or affirmation that inspires and encourages you. Put it somewhere you can see it every day and repeat it out loud to yourself. Put a plan in place ~ If you have a problem you think you can't solve or you are feeling overwhelmed, put a plan in place. Start with 3 small steps or goals, then add another 3. The lighthouse is a symbol of safety, of guiding a ship safely into the harbour after a long voyage, of showing where the land meets the sea and any potential hurdles to look out for. For many, I'm sure it's a symbol of hope. A symbol that there is 'light' at the end of their tunnel. A symbol that life can become more secure and that the end of their tumultuous journey is about to come to and end. .... . For us in Melbourne, September is our lighthouse. It's a countdown to our burdens easing. It's an opportunity for us to see the world potentially open back up, for some freedoms to reappear, to connect with those we miss most. . . 07.01.2022 - -. Surrender is the lesson we learn when we let go of control. Surrender is the lesson we learn when we stop focusing on perfect, and allow for the fact that indeed we are only human. ... Surrender is the lesson we learn when elements of life are taken from our hands, when we can't navigate it as we please and when our pushing to try and change it as replaced by letting go. Right now, surrender for me is letting go of expectations of what tomorrow flight to New Zealand will be like, the new practices in place, and not knowing where I will be quarintined for the next two weeks. It's letting go of the fact that my diet won't be as I would like, that I won't have fresh air to look forward to daily and that my emotions will ebb and flow along with my motivation. Surrender for me right now, is a lot of unknowns ahead, like not have a permanent place of residency, not knowing how my reiki and yoga business will be received locally, not knowing who I will connect with in my hometown, not knowing what life will be like and not knowing when exactly I will be coming back home. I share this because everyone has a different journey right now, and sometimes the best way to manage our stress and expectations is to let go of them. To take a deep breath and exhale our worries. To look at the best parts of life and be grateful. To live, to breath, to surrender. If a situation in your life is making you feel out of control right now, maybe it's time to heed this advice too. Take stock of what you can't change, release your expectations, and just learn to surrender into whatever will be with trust that everything will turn out more perfect than you could ever imagine. This will be my last post from Melbourne (for a while!), so to all of my lovely clients and friends; take care of yourself and never hesitate to put your mental and emotional well-being first. If change is what you need right now, seek it. If you're missing home, go back. If you can't imagine life without seeing family again, find a way. Be smart, be kind, be who you are

06.01.2022 "The greatest weapon against stress is our ability to choose one thought over another" - William James . . Let's get real here for one moment; who is feeling stressed out right now? Who is feeling claustrophobic? Who is feeling anxious about our unknown future? .... . If you answered 'yes' to one or more of these questions, I assure you, that you aren't alone. I also assure you, that if you can front up to saying 'yes', you are already taking the first steps to get through it, and start taking control of your whirling thoughts and emotions. . . Through alternative therapies like reiki, yoga and meditation; we learn to acknowledge our emotions, accept our current state of mind and start understanding how we can control our minds - even if we can't control our external world. . . We learn that by tuning out to the physical world, we can get in tune with our mental, emotional and spiritual world. We learn that we have had the power all along to create lasting changes; it just takes a lot of time and a lot of work that most of us won't want to do. . . While covid has undoubtedly changed our lives forever, it is also giving us this opprtunity to go deeper into our own world's. To seek out our true purpose. To deal with situations we have always pushed aside. To connect with those who are true friends. To try, or learn something new. To accept that we aren't the centre of the whole world, but we can be centered within our own world. . . I understand many of you are going through some very unfair circumstances right now, but the beauty in the struggle, is that we can learn to create change. To lift away some of that stress. To do less, and only by doing so - learn that we can do a lot better, with a lot less too. . . This week I'm focusing on what I want to achieve in the 'new norm'. I'm accepting changes that have happened. I'm encouraging my own spiritual journey, with more yoga, more pranayama and more self healing through reiki. I'm reaching out to old friends. 05.01.2022 "The best views come after the hardest climbs" . . One of the things I love about hiking, is that feeling of fulfillment when you reach the peak you have been working towards. The views, catching your breath, and being so engaged in that moment that your mind feels a sense of freedom and accomplishment. .... . The other thing I love? The journey to the top. . . The harder the climb, the more you must train. Not just for the physical strain you put yourself under, but the mental and emotional hurdles that pop up along the way. The heat, the cold, the fatigue, the muscle aches, the nausea, the headaches, the shortness of breath, the altitude, the mind over matter. . . When I look back on some of the harder treks I've done; I understand that the higher the altitude, the longer days, the more your mind plays. The more you doubt. The more fatigue you feel. And the higher you go, the harder it is to rest and recover, to stay focused, to stay both mentally and physically healthy. . . The thing that always keeps you going though, is that once you've reached the peak, the journey from there is downhill. It becomes easier on your body, you spend more time taking in the scenery, you feel accomplished. You feel like success is limelight. You feel like you can achieve more in life having crossed your hardest hurdle. You feel, at peace. . . Like any mountain, physical or metaphorical, the same rules apply: while the journey to getting to the peak is always littered with obstacles, you can always see more clearly at the top of your peak. You can taste success. You can foresee the future. You can keep your eye on the prize. . . While c-19 might be our mountain right now, I know in my heart that this too will be something we can conquer. This too will be something that challenges us physically, mentally and emotionally. This too will have us seeing struggles on the daily, and this too will have that moment where we feel forever grateful for the adventure it took us on, and the pride we will feel for having stayed positive, motivated and strong. . . Ever since I was a kid, I would spend endless hours running into the waves, body surfing, swimming, playing, laughing and discovering. As I got older I fell in love with snorkeling, tried my hand at surfing and stand up paddle boarding, and have tried every other water sport I can think of. .... . I love coastal walks. I love the sea breeze. I love the dance of the tides. I love the sound of the waves crashing. . . I love watching the sun set; watching it melt into the horizon and knowing that tomorrow is another day for dreams to come to life. I love knowing that the ocean at my Hampton doorstep connects me to my homeland of New Zealand. I love how you can look out as far as the eye can see, and know the rest of the world is waiting for you to discover it. 04.01.2022 . I L O V E listening to the messages our bodies are trying to share, and my first stop, is the chakras! I should start with the root chakra, but I never was any good at following the rules... The solar plexus is located between your navel and your heart, roughly in the energetic centre of your upper abdomen. Commonly, this 'lower chakra' is associated with the colour yellow and emotions such as inner peace, self-acceptance, personal power, self-worth..., self -esteem, self-confidence, self-acceptance; as well as accepting our 'gut feelings'. When your having digestive issues, it's often because you aren't trusting your gut or you're finding it hard to digest something (event, situation, or food). If this occurs, it's often your body's way of giving you signals and clues as to what's going on, so you can lean into your intuition, take stock of the situation and use your innate ability to self-heal. 02.01.2022 Infinite Possibilities . . One of the things I loved doing as a child was looking up at the sky and watching the clouds; watching them move, gather and reshape. I loved it because of the mystery that surrounded the infinite stretch of sky and how it was just 'there' ever changing, yet always consistent. .... . As I grew, and travelled, I came to appreciate it's consistency even more. No matter where I was looking up at it from, it was always there. It stretched from wherever I was, to that of my homeland; the places I was yet to visit; and the places the housed my friends and family - It was the link that held us together. . . While right now our lives look and feel different and we can't be with the people we miss the most, we all have this connection in common. We can all look up with wonderment. We can all feel connected to those afar. We can all recognise that the sky for us holds infinite possibilities of what has been, what is and what is to come. . . With each new day as it fades to black, a new chance comes to begin again. A new chance comes to reconnect. A new chance comes to make changes, to practice gratitude for what we have, who we have and all that we are. . . To me, it means that we can choose what we want to tackle in any given moment, and then chose to take action repeatedly until we've achieved it. Whether that be a physical goal; career success; the baby-making process; finding the love of your life; reading a certain amount of books in a year; or working on your trauma and deeply held beliefs - it's up to you, and only you. ... Because we are all unique, we all have different priorities in life, and that means, we all have different versions of success too. Some might pride themselves in having a bad-ass business with a 7 figure income. Some might be working towards a family of 7. Some might be working on releasing 7 years of hurt, betrayal or trauma. We have each had different people and experiences arrive in our lives that have shaped us into who we are right at this very moment, so please, STOP comparing your goals and where you're at to anyone else. You were given this life because you are strong enough to handle it, and you've developed the talents and skills within you, because they are your personal gifts that can be utilised and shared. 02.01.2022 . . Today's post is one of the hardest for me to write, but as c-19 has changed all of our lives so much; we also must change... .... . We are all learning to find new routines, to find new ways to stay productive, to stay motivated and to stay sane. We are finding new ways to stay in touch with friends, with family and with colleagues. We are all discovering new things about ourselves, our lives and our loves, and for me, this discovery has helped me make the decision to temporarily move home to New Zealand for the next 4-6 months. . . For those of you who don't already know, I was born in Christchurch, New Zealand and have been back every 3-4 months since moving to Australia to visit my Mum, family and friends. During this time of such unknown, it has become clear to me that we need to make room for the most precious things in our lives, and for me, that is time with the ones I care for most. . . It is with a heavy heart that I write this post as I will miss all of my wonderful Melbourne friends and clients, but with lockdown restrictions still continuing on I am also unable to share the gifts or reiki and yoga within the community. . .
