25.01.2022 What is Cryptolocker Ransomware The concept is simple: Ransomware infects a computer, seeks out certain types of data based on attributes -- file types, location, among others -- and encrypts it surreptitiously using keys known only to the attacker. The victim is given a choice: Pay the attacker to unencrypt the data or lose it forever. Attackers also demand their victims not inform law enforcement or risk losing the data permanently. Not surprisingly, the majority of ransomw...are has targeted businesses because the consequences of losing corporate data are higher than consumer data, therefore the potential for payout was more likely. Fortunately, defending against CryptoLocker doesn't require new technology. The most important enterprise protection against CryptoLocker and other ransomware is good, reliable, tested and current data backups. These backups should be offline or protected from unauthorized deletion. Analogix can put you into a position where you are not vulnerable to this type of attack, give us a call on 0433 999 111 or visit www.analogix.net.au/sprotect.html for more information

25.01.2022 Being in IT, I am getting a lot of calls from clients regarding how they can operate if they can't go to the office. These businesses are dependent on their phone system, if they can't answer the phone, business effectively stops for them. The simple answer is an internet based phone system, take the phone home or use your mobile and you will never miss a call. Call 0433 999 111 to find out how we can help your business. This may not effect you but if you have friends or family in business, please share this with them :-)
24.01.2022 Virus/Spyware Alert Emails cleverly disguised to appear as faxes sent from eFax Corporate, a service based in Los Angeles, California are circulating again. These look official but they are a scam to trick computer users by redirecting them to web sites that could infect their computers. The easiest way to check questionable emails is to hover the mouse (without clicking any buttons) over the links in the suspected emails. Looking at the bottom border of the email window or directly over the link, an Internet location in the form of a URL to the website can be seen. If that link does not appear to be from the company sending the email it is a very good indication that it is a redirecting scam. It is a good practice to never click links in unsolicited emails until the computer user is certain that the links are safe.

17.01.2022 Beware of Facebook scammers by avoiding situations like the following, as reported by Cnet: One popular Facebook scam is a variation on the old "download the player" ploy. You're checking out your Facebook news feed when a post appears that says simply "You gotta see this!" Oh, no you don't. You click the link only to be informed via a pop-up window that you need to install a media player to view the video. Of course, the download is actually malware that infects your system, steals your data, and uses your account to send out even more virus-bearing spam.

10.01.2022 Warning, beware of the latest phishing scam purporting to be from the ATO. There are a number of refund scam emails currently circulating. These emails claim to come from the ATO and offer a tax refund. Generally, they link to a bogus ATO website asking for personal and credit card details. These emails can differ in their appearance and level of sophistication but will generally state that you are eligible for a refund and instruct you to click on a link to submit a form to ...receive it. The ATO will never email you asking for personal or credit card details and you should never provide this information. One version of this scam contains an attachment infected with a virus. This email purports to be from the ATO and asks for the recipient to complete the attached form to receive a tax refund. There is zip file attached to the message that contains a malicious program. If you receive an email like this, do not open the attachment. Under no circumstances should you give personal information including credit card or banking details. Anyone who has received a suspicious phone call or email should contact us immediately. See more
10.01.2022 Ransomware no longer infects only a computer's hard drive and other mapped and or connected USB drives. Shared network drives are just as vulnerable. New strains are designed to encrypt network shares like central file servers and removable drives that are connected to the computer at the time of infection. The risks can be somewhat mitigated with good backup strategies, ie off site backups and proper Internet Security software as your front-line defence. There are many good providers to choose from however if you would like some assistance please let us know, cheers.
08.01.2022 Heard of VoIP but not quite sure what it is, or how it works? VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) technology allows the user to make voice calls over broadband internet, rather than through a traditional analog connection. VoIP phones can look just like a traditional office desk phones. The difference is, instead of transmitting through a physical pair of copper wires, VoIP utilizes the internet. The benefit? A more secure, cheaper and versatile way for your business to manage phone calls. Calls can be taken from wherever your employees are and can be easily transferred between office phones and mobile devices. 03.01.2022 Are you using a secure password? Think of your PC, mail and Internet Banking passwords. Now be prepared to think of some new ones. Why? Because a high-powered server or desktop used by a professional hacker can make one hundred billion password guesses per second. So, if your password contains a combination of 6 or less letters and numbers it would take only 0.0224 seconds for a professional to crack it if they wanted to.... However, if your password consists of 10 letters and numbers it would take 10.45 hours for a professional to crack now that’s much better. If you are serious about security and your password includes a symbol of any kind then you are much, much safer. Using an unusual symbol and at least one upper case letter means a professional would take 54.46 years to crack it that’s more like it! Here are some simple tips for creating passwords: Length. Make your passwords long with eight or more characters (preferably 10) Complexity. Include at least one uppercase letter PLUS a symbol. Variation. To keep strong passwords effective, change them about every three months. Variety. Don't use the same password for everything. And don’t under any circumstances use: Dictionary words in any language. Words spelled backwards, common misspellings, and abbreviations. Sequences or repeated characters. Examples: 12345678, 222222, abcdefg, or adjacent letters on your keyboard (qwerty). Personal information. Your name, birthday, driver's license, passport number, or similar information.

02.01.2022 Are you aware that Windows XP SP1-3 and Office 2003 will no longer be supported by Microsoft after April 8, 2014. That means NO new security updates/patches, security hotfixes, free or paid Microsoft assisted support options or online technical content updates. This means that after that date, XP systems and Office 2003 installations will be more susceptible to hacking and spam/spyware attacks due to being unsupported. Now is the best time to start considering budgeting for upgrading to Windows 7/8 to make sure that your business isn’t prone to attack. If you need assistance with this process please email [email protected], we're here to help.
