24.01.2022 Namaskar! means, " I deeply respect the divinity within you." In this posting, I would like to share a snippet on one of the workshops at the Ananda Mela. Anyone heard of the term 'Thinking like a Mountain?' It was coined by Aldo Leopold. In a nutshell, to 'Think Like A Mountain' means to have a complete appreciation for the profound interconnectedness of the elements in the ecosystems. Early on in his career, Aldo was assigned to kill predatory animals as they hunted the ...livestock of New Mexico. One day after' fatally shooting a wolf on a mountain, Aldo saw something in its eyes that awakened in him that which was known only to the wolf and the mountain. Since that day, he came to notice the decline in wolf population and with that, an explosion of deer herds. Consequently, the mountains became defoliated from deers feeding on the vegetation. Aldo then deduced that while deer herds were fearful of wolves, mountains were afraid of deers. He further came to realize that wildlife populations are part of a bigger picture and that there is a delicate balance between the interplay between one species and another. At the Mela, this workshop will be conducted through game playing, tactual exploration and conversation, which will then enable us to embark on a journey to experience our interconnection with other living beings in our environment. Didi Ananda Shamita, is a senior yogic nun of Ananda Marga who will conduct this workshop. https://www.anandamelafestival.org.au/

21.01.2022 Spiritual Ecology describes that there is a spiritual facet to all issues related to conservation, environmentalism, and earth stewardship. Spirituality awakens... within human beings, the common values which unite us as a single, global family. Yoga describes the source of this family relationship as a universal, all pervading Consciousness whose expression is unconditional love. This all embracing love is the vitality that permeates the entire web of life in the universe. The Ananda Mela (Festival of Bliss) is a unique festival. Participate in activities such as twice daily yoga and meditation and empowering workshops such as climate change run by UNESCO futurist Prof Inayatullah and conservationist scientist Ian Lowe. https://www.anandamelafestival.org.au/ #yoga #meditation #vegan #vegetarian#climate change#conservation#festival#warwick#southern downs#nature

09.01.2022 Greetings everyone, The 38th Ananda Mela had the honor to host Emeritus Professor Ian Lowe, one of Australia's most respected environmental scientists. Ian's s...pecialty is in the area of climate change and renewable energy. His presence at our festival was so timely given the challenges of drought and bush fires, in an area where the fires first broke out, which is the Granite Belt. Ian's presentation really hit home the urgency for us to take action to mitigate the effects of climate change. He kept us glued to our seats as he passionately outlined the challenges of making the transition into low carbon societies and how can we overcome them. For the last 20 years, climate change has become a political football involving games of corruption. The driving factor behind it is what he calls "The Toxic Meme of Growth" or what Greta Thurnberg terms as "Fairy Tales of Economic Growth," driven by human greed. If we are serious about sustainability, we need to live within the limits of natural systems. We need to shift to using clean energy and be using it efficiently. Urban areas need to be designed sensibly to reduce residents' need to travel far to obtain basic resources. Houses could be designed in such a way to reduce the need for high energy consumption. For example it needs to face the morning sun during winter to warm house in day and gets cooler as day progresses. These were just some of the ideas I am sharing with you. Ian further mentioned that shifting to a low carbon society is entirely feasible if there is a political will. In other words, its up to us to persuade our politicians to bring about this shift. He also mentioned the words 'organized superstition' in reference to the climate of denial created by the media and climate change deniers. Ian also alerted us to the fact that the climatic changes we observe today is caused only by 1 degree Celsius in temperature increase in global temperature. Imagine if global temperature were to increase by 2 degrees, 3 degrees which we are on track to reaching! According to Ian, science has established that the increase of carbon emissions is what is responsible for climate change. He also informed us that coal fired stations act poorly during very hot days. We were very fortunate to have Ian at our event, and we thank the Southern Downs Regional Council for their role in offering us a grant.
