24.01.2022 Happy International Day of Peace A poignant a-ha moment when I first read this quote on FB almost 10 years ago. It was mistakenly credited to Gautama Buddha, but the message piqued my interest. ... At the time I was in (what I believed to be) a toxic relationship with a narcissist. Seeing this quote gave me the insight that I had given him the power to manipulate me. This was the turning point where I had to shut the woe be unto me story I had kept telling myself. This confirmed what I intuitively knew; I needed to take responsibility for my actions, I had the CHOICE to NOT ALLOW anyone or anything to control my emotions. This was the sign I desperately needed to change the narrative and truly believe I deserved better! That started the journey of seeking... Fast forward a decade later after an arduous inner journey of cleaning the lens of perception, sifting through labels & trauma while examining my self-worth. After all this inner work the penny finally dropped that I am whole and complete as I am. It’s society/culture/systemic bias that makes us believe we are not enough. We each have the power to choose, and I now have the wisdom to choose inner peace any day. It’s not always perfect, a practice by itself to be present to emotions in varying situations. At least I have the tools to help with a calmer and peaceful state of mind, far from what I used to be! This is what prompted me to be a teacher; teaching these tools the yoga and meditation journey has afforded me.Blessed to have integrated these invaluable realisations from the ancient wisdom traditions, made poignant in these tender times of a global pandemic. Lokah Samastha Sukhino Bhavanthu - May all living beings be happy and free of suffering, and may my thoughts, words and actions in some way contribute to the ease of suffering Om Shanti Shanti Shanti (Om Peace Peace Peace) [ID: Quote reading Inner peace begins the moment you choose not to allow another person or event control your emotions by Pema Chodron]

24.01.2022 Prana - the breath of life:: A beautiful Melbourne sunset that got me outdoors last week. I was convinced of not taking a pic with a mask, but this burst of colour from @better.than.nothing.masks is the motivation I needed to get some nature therapy! In the weekly classes I’ve expressed how I’m not a fan of this condition, although I will comply for the greater good. ... In a previous post I shared how I was hyperventilating with my first mask ‘outing’ getting groceries that disoriented me. There’s research to suggest masks being a challenge for people who have experienced trauma and anxiety/panic attacks. Some vulnerable groups have admitted to the discomfort in class, but don’t want to create a ‘fuss’. The yoga sessions the past weeks highlighted how the breath - prana (the life force energy) is hindered, along with our throat chakra, the centre of Truth and speaking it. The importance of nose breathing as opposed to mouth breathing to counter this discomfort. This is a practice by itself as most people aren’t conscious of how they breathe. I’m still befriending my mask and building up my tolerance for a person trained in breathing. My current outside exercise quota is 20 mins; it’s a practice I find playing footy with the kids and climbing the one big tree in the backyard without the mask much more useful Wearing a mask has significantly affected my time outdoors, as I was always seeking to be immersed out in Mother Nature. I dread to think of people who have difficulties with diagnosed conditions who are subjected to unkind words and criticism. Not forgetting the medical professionals living in them as part of the life saving work they do. In these tender times, let’s be kind to ourselves and each other. We have no idea of what another person is battling, as we are all facing our own challenges. It all becomes relative in the scheme of things. Every story is valid. As we eagerly await the lockdown to end, it’s important to tend to our mental and emotional load, which seems to stretch into an extended period(in Melbourne at least!). We are nearing the end Breathe easy #breath #prana

20.01.2022 World Suicide Prevention day; R U OK? for Australians - 10 September. In these uncertain times it is ever so important to tend to our mental and emotional wellbeing. Sending love to all the people and communities affected by suicide including everyone who is in lockdown situations due to the health crisis. ... In these tender times of uncertainty and grittiness, it’s ever so important to reach out to check in on your loved ones to show you care. FACT: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people aged 18-24 have four times the risk of suicide compared to non-Indigenous youth; a rate high against world suicide numbers. Now is as good a time to have honest and meaningful conversations to de-stigmatise mental health, and asking for support. If you or anyone you know are not coping, please do reach out (see slide 4) for a list of 24/7 Mental Health providers. Let’s continue to have those conversations that could potentially save someone’s life, not only today but everyday. We are getting through this, together. We can all make a difference, however small, to change the trajectory of how we come out of this pandemic. Showing ourselves and others kindness, empathy and compassion, will make a huge difference in the long run. Remember to check in with yourself daily too If you are feeling particularly vulnerable please do reach out via DM. #worldsuicidepreventionday #suicideawareness #ruok #keepconnected #mentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #weareinthistogether #earthweareone #unityconsciousness

20.01.2022 Hi folks Hope you’re all enjoying a restful weekend. Please note the Tuesday yoga classes (both morning and evening) won’t go ahead with the Melbourne Cup Holiday. ... This is NOT in celebration of the Spring racing event, this is more aligned to the cosmic shifts happening with the Blue Full moon upon us today and the energy shifts happening throughout this week. Self-care is a priority during this time, hence the time off to be in quiet contemplation. Enjoy the extra day off (Melbourne peeps) and the much anticipated sunshine The Chair Yoga (Thursday 9am )and Friday Mindful Meditation will continue. 17.01.2022 Early in the COVID-19 pandemic, a task force was formed to advocate the practice of meditation and yoga as a potential adjunctive treatment for COVID-19, because of the significant anti-stress, anti-inflammatory, and immune-enhancing (including anti-infectious and antiviral) properties of these behavioral health modalities.

15.01.2022 The Body and Anxiety :: When we talk about anxiety it’s usually about the mind and thoughts. Anxiety (as well as stress) shows up (picture) as signals in the body. When these signals are ignored, they spiral into exacerbated versions and manifests into panic/anxiety attacks, musculoskeletal issues, IBS, insomnia amongst other conditions.... If you are in an anxious spiral, the first step to alleviate is to NOTICE where the anxiety is showing up in your body. Soften into these parts by breathing into it. Repeat this process over the entire body. Any pain or discomfort is a signal from the body; communicating that something needs attention. A mindful practice (that’s trauma informed) can help with tools to better manage these symptoms. A practice in listening to the body’s own wisdom to manage a better body-mind-breath connection. A guided practice and other tools will be covered in this evening’s Yoga for anxiety and stress session at 6pm AEST. 13.01.2022 PAUSE to smell the Jasmine:: I will be offline starting next week and back on Tuesday October 6 With @nobleparkcommunitycentre taking a break during the school holidays next week, I decided to take this time off myself.... It never occurred that I needed one after continuing since March for 6 months now. It has been a humbling experience teaching in front of an online audience. I’m glad I didn’t give into my camera-shyness and less than glamorous studio backdrop. Persisting to make the benefits of yoga and meditation accessible to EVERYBODY in these strange times. The meditation tonight and the Sunday yoga class (20/9)will go ahead. I’ll be taking my own advice, as I have been craving a tech hiatus so my posts will be limited to none here, depending on if I will be guided to share anything useful I’m looking forward to enjoying the limited time I have with my little teachers at home with some creativity and playtime The build up to this New Moon in Virgo has been a heavy cosmic shift to anchor into; highlighting the need to detach and detox old stagnant energy. There’s been a lot of emotional and energetic debris that needs releasing and grounding, personally and collectively. I hope this reminds you to take some time off, despite not being able to enjoy a change of scene for my Melbourne peeps! All things being equal I’ll be back on Zoom Tuesday 6 October at 9.30 and 7pm yoga Hope you enjoy the Spring sunshine. There's a slight easing of the lockdown from this week, so the end is somewhere near! Take good care and see you on the other side of my staycation [ID: A sprig of Jasmine, a firm favourite of mine, picked up from my walk and couldn’t quite enjoy with the mask in the way!]. . . #yoga #meditation #union #newmooninvirgo #soulpreneur #unityconsciousness #anantayayoga

12.01.2022 An embodied Sadhana (practice) Being a yoga teacher, I’m portrayed as well put together in my classes (even after sharing anecdotes to the contrary!) As an eternal student I don’t fan the misperception of the perfect yogi (does that even exist?!) Here’s a candid pic of my own practice last week; colour uncoordinated pj’s and bed hair for added effect ... Contrary to popular belief, perfection in yoga is a white-supremacy construct; the perfectly curated highlight reel of asanas(postures) is only one of the eight limbs of philosophy that’s highlighted. Yoga is an act of devotion and self-care. In these tender times it is more important to show up and maintain a ritual toward self-preservation than add pressure to perform. Starting the day by connecting to the Divine is non-negotiable; a kriya (cleansing practice) with some gentle movement & meditation for 15 mins minimum. The asana practice I usually get to later in the day. For anyone who thinks there’s no time in the day here are a few things to try even in bed! As you wake up (instead of grabbing your phone); take 3-5 deep breaths, tuning into the felt experience of the inhale and exhale. have one (or both hands) on your heart or anywhere on your body, tuning into how your body feels in that moment saying an affirmation to start your day (Eg: My body is safe no matter what I may be feeling; I am safe; This too shall pass; I am supported by a kind, loving and generous universe.) gratitude - think of something you’re grateful for(for me it’s breathing uninhibited; a roof above filled with love) this can be as many as you like) drinking a cup of tea or coffee mindfully. The intention I bring to my practice is what matters. To wake up with a grateful heart to know I am alive and well. To acknowledge these everyday miracles first, to commit with devotion to a force greater than me, rather than be consumed by the inconsequential. This happens in varying degrees, and evolves organically. Showing up daily to whatever the practice unfolds without expectation is key; a powerful act of surrendering to grace. How do you start your day? #sadhana #embodiedpractice

10.01.2022 PAUSE TO SIMPLY BE:: An invitation to be present, pause whatever chaos surrounds us. Take time to listen to get intimate with the breath;Prana, the life force energy that is flowing to us and through us; it has wisdom to share. ... Join me for tonight’s Meditation, we will be tuning into our heart space, especially for the Melbourne peeps coming out of an extended period of lockdown In these energetically potent times (yes! theres more!)a Blue Full moon upon us early 1 November (Southern hemisphere) on the cusp of Samhain (commercially known as Halloween) when the veils between worlds become thin. We also have a global landscape rife with civil unrest demanding justice, equity, diversity and inclusion including in our own backyard. Tonight’s session will honour our roots, roots of self and the connection this rich land that we live and breathe on. Paying our respects to ALL traditional custodians of the land we call Australia and Mother Earth. A sound healing to help anchor into the current energy. In particular to honour the Djab Wurrung people and mourn a sacred directions tree of spiritual significance to their people that was felled early this week. 05.01.2022 SPRING Hope comes in many ways; shapes, colours and textures I love watching Gaia, Mother Earth in her infinite wisdom.... Nature never hurries; and yet everything unfolds in Divine timing. Seeing through this year as it has thus far, with much anxiety around the uncertainty has made me appreciate the wisdom Mama Gaia has to offer (yet again!). Watching the bare trees coming back to life is a poignant reminder to let go of things that no longer serve to make space for new beginnings. Most importantly, flowers cannot always bloom, rest and repair is a necessity, a lesson applicable to humans too, especially against the backdrop of a global pandemic. It’s no accident there’s a full moon in Pisces upon us tomorrow (Southern hemisphere). Another potent reminder of how the microcosm dances into and intersects with the macrocosm. Being present to this moment now; releasing anything weighing down or that has run its course. The need to travel light in these tender times; physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually is now. Even in the darkest depths of winter, there is Spring to hope for. Hope is not wishful thinking. Hope is the audacity to believe there’s more ahead of me ~ Morgan Harper Nichols All is not lost. We each have the power to choose the next step towards our destiny, despite not seeing the entire staircase. May the turn of this season give you the clarity, wisdom and nourishment to stand tall in your own Truth with authenticity. It’s an evolving journey, however long it may take or uncertain it may be. No matter what the past has been, an opportunity to re-set is available. Choose to be present NOW! 03.01.2022 WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY 10.10 :: IT’S OK NOT TO BE OK Mental Illness is often overlooked, minimised or dismissed as personal failures. Thus creating stigma around getting professional help as its still considered taboo subjects. ... Raising awareness about mental health is crucial as it affects everyone and everything we do. There’s still more work to do in opening up conversations that de-stigmatise seeking help to support healing. Being open about our battles in the open helps address the lies and tricks our minds tend to play in isolation. Let’s de-stigmatise seeking help to be equivalent to consulting a doctor for a sore limb or any physical illness. In these strange times especially we must be aware of self-care to extend towards our mental health. What will you do for your own mental health? Every small step you take helps in the long run.
