25.01.2022 Just take a moment today to: 1. focus on your breath 2. Watch the ocean and listen to the waves, if you arent near the ocean just listen to ours. 3. Smile and tell yourself " youve got this adulting thing" 4. The most important thing today is to pull your big girls pants up as high as they will go and do that task you have been putting off.......... Have a great weekend Julie See more

24.01.2022 Friday Fact: Impostor syndrome My Friday fact is more of a Friday share this week. As well as anatomy, I love peoples behaviour and quirks, including my quirks and insecurities. Have you ever felt like you didnt belong, that you werent good enough, or thought to yourself just before an important presentation "who am I, I shouldnt be here." The international journal of behavioural science estimated that over 70% of people would experience impostor feelings at some point in ...their life, and I am definitely one of them. Impostor syndrome is the idea that it is only good luck that has got you where you are and not due to your hard work and skills. People with impostor syndrome often feel like a fraud. Impostor syndrome, or phenomenon, was first described by psychologists Suzanne Imes, PhD, and Pauline Rose Clance, PhD, in the 1970s. Initially, when it was first studied, they thought it was unique to women; however, a variety of research has shown that men suffer from impostor syndrome as well. Common traits in people who experience impostor syndrome are Perfectionism, setting extremely high expectations for yourselftrying to be superman or superwomen in all aspects of your life. I tick these boxes, and there came a time when I had to stop. It took me a long time to realise my behaviour and admit it. Then I was relieved to hear other people say "oh yes, I feel like that sometimes," including people around me that I admire. I felt human. It is important to know this syndrome isnt uncommon, and you can learn to enjoy your successes and not be so critical of yourself when it doesnt work. The biggest thing has been for me to celebrate successes instead of just quickly moving on to the next challenge. Asking for help and accepting help. Being ok with good enough, instead of putting my ideas to one side because they werent 100%, because lets be honest, if you are a perfectionist theyre never going to be 100%. Being able to say I am going to run with this idea because it is good enough is a huge relief, and the more you do it, the easier it gets. Learning to recognise your expertise, noting what you do well, and not comparing yourself to others. Finally, know its ok to feel this way at times, and you are not the only one. Sadly you will have to wait a little bit longer for Ash due to family commitments, and she will be back with us as soon as she can. Thank you for your support, and we look forward to welcoming you back into our clinic. Julie

16.01.2022 Friday Fact: Suboccipitals/ Tension headaches I love writing my Friday facts and love these group of muscles, but this Friday fact has been a challenge, keeping it short and trying not to go too far down the rabbit hole. Todays Friday fact is on a beautiful group of four paired muscles at the base of your skull, called the Suboccipitals. These muscles are small but important; they initiate and control fine movements. They contain a high density of muscle spindles making propr...ioception an important function of these muscles, monitoring the position of the head and upper cervical vertebrae. Letting you know where your head is in space. They also help with head, and eye coordination, dysfunction and shortness in these muscles can affect balance as well as linked to tension headaches. When you are staring at your computer screen and go to lift your head, these are the muscles that get overworked. The four muscles starting from the midline of the skull are Rectus Capitis Posterior Minor, Rectus Capitis Posterior Major, Obliquus Capitis Superior and Obliquus Capitis Inferior. They collectively extend, rotate and laterally flex the head. In clinical practice, I have found that these muscles are often associated or interlinked with jaw pain and dysfunction and need to be treated when treating the jaw and vice versa. Studies show that the jaw muscles and sub occipitals function together and dysfunction together. Place your finger pads along the back of your neck just below your hairline, just under the skull. Without moving your head, move your eyes up and down and then side to side and feel these muscles responding under your fingerpads. Now with your fingers still in the same place, imagine you are staring intently at your computer screen, can you feel these muscles react? Soften your gaze and feel these muscles relax a little. 15.01.2022 We would like to wish a very special lady a Very Happy 50th Birthday today Julie... 14.01.2022 Do you feel compressed through your abdominal region? What about in movement, do you have trouble rotating your trunk or bending to the side? The abdominal group are often at fault in these examples and as of late have been quite a fascination of mine, especially when Im treating in clinic! ... The obliques in particular are my favourite. When holding, they restrict rotational and side bending movements of the upper body as well as depressing the ribcage and creating compression between the pelvis and ribcage When experiencing hands on treatment through these structures clients often report feeling taller, having a fuller breath, ease of movement (side bending & rotation particularly) and feeling decompressed between the ribcage and pelvis. Come experience results first hand and BOOK a structural bodywork session with Lewis online: https://anatomy-trains-australia-nz.cliniko.com/bookings Health Fund Rebates available Lewis.

12.01.2022 I received some wonderful feedback from a new client who finished her first session with me at our Fremantle clinic. She responded to my case study post looking for people with chronic foot pain or plantar fasciitis. "I was fortunate to be referred to Lewis at the Freo Clinic by a friend. He was a true professional with a skill to make you feel at ease very quickly. I felt immediate improvement after the session and was left with a lovely euphoric feeling for the rest of the ...day as I knew that my injury in my foot was on the road to recovery. I noticed the next day my pain in this foot has reduced by 90%. Thanks Lewis and you have been recommended to other friends that would benefit from your expertise - Irene" If you are suffering with chronic foot pain or plantar fasciitis and interested in being a case study at our Fremantle Clinic. 11.01.2022 Structural Integration We are now back in the clinic and excited to be getting our hands working again, one of the services we offer is Structural Integration- what does this mean? Structural Integration (SI) is a form of bodywork that uses manual techniques and movement education to help ease pain, give more freedom and range of movement, help ease restrictions and long-held tension in the body. More importantly, it helps you become more body aware and gives you an understa...nding of your compensation patterns or constraints in movement. I look at posture, but I must make it clear it isnt about perfect posture, it does give me a window into understanding how your body moves and functions. Where in your body are you held, restricted or not moving with ease? Clients often report feeling taller, lighter, pain-free and moving more freely and efficiently and having a deeper understanding of their own body. Is can be done as a one-off, as a three series or as a full twelve series. We offer structural Integration at our Fremantle and Secret Harbour Clinics. For more information on SI or to book an appointment go to: www.anatomytrainsaustralia.com or email [email protected]

11.01.2022 Friday fact: Levator ani- - understanding the musculature that makes up your pelvic diaphragm. When you first start to read about the musculature in the pelvic diaphragm, it can seem so confusing, and this can you put you off delving into this area of anatomy. The pelvic diaphragm can be split into layers, superficial and deep. The main muscles that form the pelvic diaphragm are the obturator internus, piriformis, levator ani and coccygeus. They form the floor and the walls o...Continue reading

10.01.2022 Are you interested in having a Structural Bodywork session but not sure hows its different from Remedial Massage? Structural Bodywork is a combination of Remedial Massage and Structural Integration. It involves a detailed assessment, as well as looking at posture, movement and gait, to help identify areas that may be restricted, compressed or affecting your function. This information helps develop a strategy specifically for you.... This work can be done as a one-off session or as a three-session series. The three-series has a clear beginning, middle and end and is excellent for those seeking a full-body approach, without committing to the full Structural integration process. It involves hands-on treatment using myofascial techniques, and movement to give you more freedom, body awareness and ease in your movement. You will be reassessed throughout the treatment, and you will be given exercises and tips on self-release at home. Clients report a reduction in pain, smoother movement, feeling lighter, taller and more comfortable in their bodies. The first session focuses on the lower body, the second session focuses on the upper body, and the third session focuses on the spine and unifying the previous sessions to integrate the body as a connected whole. Lewis and Julie both offer Structural Bodywork, appointments can be booked online at this link: https://anatomy-trains-australia-nz.cliniko.com/bookings

09.01.2022 Happy Monday Everyone! Im really excited to be back and treating again this Friday I have been self-isolating for over 5 weeks now and although a relatively short time it has felt like an eternity!... I can now run 15km Ive read 5 books Ive enjoyed more time in nature Ive had many illuminating, funny and heart felt video chats Ive spent time learning, goal planning and had couple of ups and downs. I also now know how to cook the perfect crispy chippies you boil the chips with baking soda first before blasting them in the oven, this helps break down the potatos pectin and draws the starch to the surface, which promotes that golden-brown hue and that satisfying crispy chippy crunch who knew? Although I have been productive, I have to admit it has been tough, I love what I do and to lose that did create a lot of uncertainty in my future going forward for a time there (as it has for a lot of us)So Im very grateful our association and WA government have allowed us to come back and provide relief to those who need it Practice will now be restricted with 30min breaks between each client, this will allow time to sanitize and clean the clinic. Sessions are particularly for clients who are struggling and in pain. Im really looking forward to seeing you in clinic - Lewis BOOK Remedial Massage & Structural Bodywork Sessions: https://anatomy-trains-australia-nz.cliniko.com/bookings
