20.01.2022 Now that the Christmas/New Year season has passed, the kids are back at school, and work routines are back in place, it's time to really think through your goals and what you'd like to achieve this year. Did you write any New Year's Resolutions or are you more the type of person who just waits to see what will happen? Or, are you someone who writes a definitive goal list and takes action to make sure everything is crossed off before December 31? Whichever category you fall in...Continue reading

16.01.2022 Happy New Year! (A little late, I know!!) I've just returned to work after a 2 week break that was long overdue and much appreciated. I'm sure that 2021 will bring us all many opportunities to improve our health and wellbeing. One of the best and most researched things you can do to start improving your health is to optimise your levels of vitamin D. In a country like Australia where we have many long hours of sunshine, it is hard to believe that low levels of vitamin D would... be a problem. However, according to the Australian Government National Health and Medical Research Centre, many Australians have suboptimal levels of this highly researched vitamin. The best way to find out what your levels are is to ask your GP for a simple blood test. Supplementation is as easy as a capsule or drops each day if your levels are low. There is research that vitamin D plays a big role in helping with the current health crisis sweeping the world and that's a huge reason to make sure your levels are in the optimal range. It's also an important nutrient for your bones when combined with vitamin K. If you need any more info about vitamin D, get in touch or ask a question in the comments below. See more

08.01.2022 Have you been struggling during the last few crazy months? Maybe your energy has been low or you've found you're not sleeping too well or you've had those nervous butterflies in your stomach that just won't settle. If you have, you aren't alone. There has been a huge rise in the number of people experiencing some sort of mental health complaint since the beginning of the current health crisis. And that is perfectly understandable considering the dramatic changes that have tak...en place in the way we are now living compared to last year. The fear, the restrictions, the changes in employment situations, the isolation and the uncertainty all play their part in escalating the stress response that takes place in your body. And when that response continues on day after day, your body starts to become depleted of nutrients which can then cause changes in the biochemical processes that take place to keep your body functioning and in good health. For example...when your body is under chronic stress, it uses lots of B vitamins to help with energy production and to nourish your nervous system. However, if the rate at which you use the B vitamins exceeds your intake of them, you're eventually going to run into a problem because you won't have enough for all the processes B vitamins are used for. If things are not put right, your body will continue to use more and more resources to help keep you going, and eventually, you will find yourself facing off with Adrenal Fatigue because you'll have nothing left in your tank. It doesn't have to get to this point though. Taking care of yourself has never been so important. Keeping a strong immune system, nourishing your nervous system, and managing your stress are 3 of the best things you can be doing for yourself at this moment in time. Don't put it off thinking things will be back to normal soon. I think we all know that things won't be back to normal for a long time, if ever. Looking after your health and giving your body the best nutrition you possibly can is something that is totally in your hands....and it is the best way of dealing with what is going on around us right now. Book in for a complimentary 30 minute Discovery Session, and let's see where we can help you.

08.01.2022 How much ultra processed food are you eating in your weekly diet? This clip from a BBC documentary is from research in the UK however it will be very similar fo...r Australia and New Zealand. The obesity epidemic we have is not going to stop until we get back to real ingredients cooked in the home kitchen. Real food means real health. What do you think? See more

07.01.2022 There's never been a more important time to look after your health and do everything you can to boost your immunity. Real food.....food that's fresh and unprocessed is the foundation of a healthy body. Just like a concrete slab is the foundation for a strong house, good nutrition is the foundation of a strong, healthy body. Make sure you're getting 2 - 3 serves of clean protein, 10 serves of veges and 2 - 3 pieces of fruit during the course of every day. And of course, 8 glas...ses of water as well. Just be doing these things, you will be well on the way to fortifying your immune system and giving your body a good foundation for health. Enjoy your journey to health and wellness!

05.01.2022 Metabolic Balance helps lower inflammation so your body can release excess weight and find balance.

04.01.2022 Following on from last week's post, I want to talk about the effects of elevated blood insulin levels. Eating foods with a high glycemic load causes insulin to be continuously released. Chronically elevated blood insulin levels lead to: - high triglyceride and cholesterol levels - elevated adrenalin and cortisol which lead to high blood pressure and increased fat synthesis... - certain steps of the blood clotting process are activated by elevated insulin leading to more occurrence of thoromboses and emboli (blood clots) in overweight people - production of hormones such as DHEA (from which all sex hormones are made), HGH (human growth hormone) and melatonin (sleep hormone), are inhibited. These are anti-inflammatory and anti-ageing hormones - increased build up of fat and decreased reduction of fat occurs from elevated insulin levels As you can see, keeping insulin levels in a normal range is critical for preventing not only weight gain, but normal levels of triglycerides and cholesterol. Unhealthy types and amounts of carbohydrates are what cause many health issues, and by keeping these to an absolute minimum in your diet, you will be giving your body the best platform for good health.

04.01.2022 2021 - Your Year One of the best memes that was floating around at the end of 2020 was the one where people were saying that they were staying up on New Year's Eve not to see the new year in, but to make sure that 2020 left! It certainly was a year that had surprises waiting at every corner, and I'm sure it's one that many people hope to forget......Click the link to read more. https://www.anayasnaturalhealth.com.au/post/2021-your-year

03.01.2022 I can't stress enough, the importance of using restrictive diets as a therapeutic tool for limited amounts of time. Long term use of some of the most popular dietary choices can lead to deficiencies of vitamins, minerals, protein etc. And as we age, our nutritional needs are different to when we are in our 20's and 30's. Before you go jumping on the latest dietary trend, speak to a Nutritionist (aka me!) who can look at the overall picture of your health and what you need as ...an individual. Your body, and what it requires, is going to be different from the person who wrote the latest trendy bestseller or the photoshopped Instagram influencer. Your life is different from theirs, your stress levels are different from theirs and your nutritional requirements will be different from theirs. Make informed choices and seek professional help when it comes to something as important as your (long term) health.

03.01.2022 For anyone wondering if the cov1d shot will be mandated, this is taken from the government website transcript from the National Cabinet meeting on 7th January. Read it very carefully and see what is actually being said: JOURNALIST: You mentioned a discussion with the states about when and how vaccines could be required by uniform public health orders. Could you please clarify who that would apply to? Would that be aged care workers, returning Australians? And how does that sq...uare with repeated assurances that vaccines will be voluntary? PRIME MINISTER: All I've said today is that that is a discussion that needs to be had. And so we will have that discussion. JOURNALIST: But you said it would be voluntary, so PRIME MINISTER: It is voluntary. But that is an important discussion for the public health and safety that needs to be had in the states and territories who are responsible for public health. JOURNALIST: So you're leaving open the possibility that you could require certain cohorts of people like returning Australians, aged care workers PRIME MINISTER: We’re going through the processes that are necessary to protect public health and safety in the country and I'm doing that collaboratively with the states and territories, who are principally responsible for that, John. JOURNALIST: Is that going back on your previous statement PRIME MINISTER: No, I think you're over interpreting, Paul. You've got a want to do that. Yep. https://www.pm.gov.au/.../press-conference-australian... The Prime Minister has said it will be voluntary but when the states say otherwise under a public health order, there will be no choice. It will be mandated. My thoughts around this are that they will either severely restrict the movements of those who refuse to have it, or they will issue exorbitant fines that the majority of the population won't be able to afford to pay, or something worse. I hope I'm wrong. Based on that, you need to know what you are injecting into your body. There are, currently 2 that will be getting distributed in Australia - one is the Pfizer shot that has been used overseas (& been in the news in the last week for less than complimentary reasons), the second one is the Astra Zeneca shot. There are huge differences to these vacc1nes and you need to be informed. Hint - don't go by any phony percentages that are being reported, look at how these things actually work in your body. If you want to know more, look at the government website to understand what is proposed. https://www.health.gov.au/.../australia-s-covid-19... Another link to check out is https://www.businessinsider.com.au/how-covid-vaccines... There is a good table on there that shows the comparisons between the 3 vacc1nes available worldwide. At the end of the day people, if there is a choice and you choose to get it, that's up to you, just make sure you do your research first.

02.01.2022 Enjoying a day off today...mental health is so important

02.01.2022 Do you do any of these common fat loss blockers? This is something I see often in clinic and they sabotage any weight loss success it’s much more important to learn healthy eating, as a balanced, nourished body will naturally release weight. I’d love to know if any of these ring true for you? Comment below

02.01.2022 Did you know that your body has a limited capacity to store carbohydrates and when it reaches capacity, they are converted into fat. But.....your body has an unlimited capacity to store fats. What are carbohydrates? Food made from grains or flour, sugar and sweet foods, junk food, soft drinks, certain types of alcohol....these are the typical 'bad' carbohydrates. Good sources of carbohydrates are fresh vegetables and fruit. So, if you are eating a good variety of vegetables a...nd fruit each day, you are probably getting all the carbohydrates your body needs. If you add in junky carbohydrates every day, you will most likely go over your capacity and your body will start to store fat. And don't be lulled into a false sense of security by thinking that everything you buy in a health food store or healthy cafe is good for your body. Many of the sweet, supposedly healthy treat foods they sell are loaded with sugar in the form of maple syrup, coconut syrup, honey, or dates. While these sweeteners do have a better nutritional profile than cane sugar or agave, they are still sweet and add to your carbohydrate load which can ultimately lead to fat storage. Bottom line.....cut back on the types of carbohydrates listed above and eat more vegetables. Leave the treats to once/week or twice at the most. Your body will be happier for it
