21.01.2022 LAST DAY TO SIGN! Australian Parliamentary Petition to #RecognizeArtsakh Closes Tomorrow (Wednesday 30th December) The Armenian National Committee of Australia's (ANC-AU) petition on the official website of the Australian Parliament, calling on the nation's lawmakers and Government to recognise the rights to self-determination of the Republic of Artsakh, closes TOMORROW (on Wednesday 30th December 2020). After 44 days of Azerbaijani war crimes, supported by Turkey and Islamis...t Jihadist terrorists, the indigenous Armenian homeland of Artsakh (Nagorno Karabakh) is under occupation. International recognition efforts for the people's rights to self-determination have taken centre stage, with the country's independence believed to be the only guarantee of their future security. This petition, which has been published following approval by the Australian Parliament's House of Representatives' Standing Committee on Petitions, requests Australia's parliament joins the French Senate and National Assembly, the New South Wales Parliament's Legislative Assembly and many other legislatures around the world that have begun acknowledging the human rights to self-determination of the indigenous Armenians of Artsakh, who voted comprehensively for independence in 1991. "We thank the nearly-3,000 Australian citizens or residents who have signed the petition, and call on all Armenian-Australians and friends of Armenian-Australians to join them and help usher Australia to support the safety and integrity of the Armenian homeland," said ANC-AU Executive Director Haig Kayserian. 18.01.2022 Call for Australian Government action on Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) 1 November 2020 The Australian Institute for Holocaust and Genocide Studies (AIHGS) holds gr...ave concerns about the conflict in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), in particular, an increasing risk of genocide against the indigenous Armenian population. AIHGS urges the Australian Government to take immediate action to prevent further atrocities and war crimes against a people who have already endured genocide and never seen justice. Since 27 September 2020, Azerbaijan, supported by Turkey, has launched aggressive attacks against the region of Artsakh, including attacks targeting Armenian civilians. War crimes and crimes against humanity have characterised Azerbaijan’s actions to date, with the use of long range missiles, drone strikes and cluster bombs, which are banned under international law. These attacks have killed civilians, and destroyed homes in the capital Stepanakert, as well as hospitals, schools and cultural-religious sites such as the Holy Saviour (Ghazanchetsots) Cathedral in Shushi. International humanitarian law prevents the targeting of civilian infrastructure and religious or historical sites. More than 70,000 people have been displaced from the Republic of Artsakh; thousands more are taking refuge in underground basements. Turkey, which continues to deny the Armenian genocide perpetrated by its Ottoman predecessors a century ago, continues to provide material support to Azerbaijan in the form of weapons and foreign mercenaries from Syria. Indeed, President Erdogan has referred to Turkey’s intention to fulfill the mission of their grandfathers, an explicit statement of genocidal intent, and has recently referred to Armenians as remnants of the sword (kilic artigi a derogatory term for those who have survived mass killings and remain in Turkey). Likewise, hate speech and incitement by President Aliyev is a frequent and intrinsic part of Azerbaijan’s ultra-nationalist and anti-Armenian agenda. For example, in October, President Aliyev stated: We showed them who we are. We are chasing them like dogs." Hate speech and dehumanisation are important indicators of imminent genocide. Within the context of armed conflict, and evidence of Azerbaijan’s war crimes, crimes against humanity and a stated intention of ethnic cleansing, and combined with denial and impunity for past genocides against the Armenians, AIHGS asserts that there is a strong potential for genocide in Artsakh, should Azerbaijani forces push back the Armenian defence and take control of the area. Australia is a signatory to the 1948 UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, and has an obligation under the UN principle of the Responsibility to Protect to take action to prevent atrocity crimes and hold perpetrators accountable. To date, the Australian Government, despite admitting it is aware of material support from Turkey to Azerbaijan, has failed to call out the aggressive attacks against the Armenian population of Artsakh. AIHGS appeals to the Australian Government to take every necessary step to encourage a ceasefire and ensure the protection of civilians from war crimes, crimes against humanity, ethnic cleansing, and genocide. AIHGS calls on the Australian Government to: Acknowledge the atrocities and war crimes being committed by Azerbaijan and use all diplomatic means to pressure Azerbaijan to meet its obligations under international humanitarian law Condemn hate speech, genocidal intent and genocide denial by Azerbaijan and Turkey Support all necessary international efforts as a matter of urgency to monitor the situation and prevent attacks by Azerbaijan against Armenian civilians, including internationally brokered ceasefires Use all means at its disposal to encourage those nations supporting Azerbaijan with weapons and other material support to cease immediately Condemn the use of foreign mercenaries Take action to hold Azerbaijan and Turkey accountable for atrocities and war crimes. Provide humanitarian aid to the people of Artsakh

15.01.2022 VIDEO - John Alexander MP Calls Out Azerbaijan and Turkey, Highlights Cluster Bombs Federal Member for Bennelong John Alexander MP has risen in Australia's Hous...e of Representatives chamber to call out Azerbaijan's attacks on Armenians in the Republics of Artsakh and Armenia and urge Turkey to "stop egging on" Baku's escalation of violence, reported the Armenian National Committee of Australia (ANC-AU). In September 2019, Alexander became the first Federal Australian parliamentarian to visit the Republic of Artsakh, earning him a place alongside many local and international political leaders on the persona non grata blacklist of Azerbaijan's dictator, Ilham Aliyev, which he recently referred to as "an honour". The former world number eight-ranked tennis player reflected on Azerbaijan's Turkey-backed attacks on the Armenian Republics of Artsakh and Armenia, which began on 27th September and continue to today. He expressed regret that the people of Artsakh were now being subjected to cluster bomb attacks by Baku. Alexander also condemned Turkey's involvement in Azerbaijan's attacks, which has included open encouragement, the deployment of Ankara-backed Islamist jihadist mercenaries from Syria and air support. Alexander concluded his Members Statement by calling for respect for the Republic of Artsakh's right to self-determination. 10.01.2022 "Azermarka" Ltd., operating under the Azerbaijani Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies, has issued propaganda stamps depicting the "chemical cleansing" of Armenians out of Artsakh. 08.01.2022 On Tuesday, around 500 Armenian-Australians travelled from Sydney to Canberra to protest Baku's attacks on the Republics of Artsakh and Armenia at the Embassy ...of Azerbaijan attracting mass media coverage. On 27th September 2020, Azerbaijan backed by Turkey-funded Islamist jihadist mercenaries and air support began large-scale military assaults along the entire length of their border with Artsakh, something the international community and media have by and large failed to adequately condemn in favour of Baku's preferred false parity narrative that lays equal blame on both sides. 280 soldiers have so far lost their lives from the Armenian side and an unknown but large number on the Azerbaijani side. Dozens of civilians have also been killed and nearly 3,000 Armenian homes ruined in Artsakh. The protest was organised by the Armenian Youth Federation of Australia (AYF-AU). This was the speech delivered by Michael Kolokossian. #StopAliyev #ArtsakhStrong #RecognizeArtsakh #

05.01.2022 Dear Australian Parliament, 3,164 of your own citizens have signed a petition on your website (https://www.aph.gov.au/petition_list?id=EN2134) calling for the r...ecognition of the Republic of Artsakh. Recognising an indigenous people's right to self-determination and independence on their ancestral homeland is the only way to bring peace to Nagorno Karabakh, and an end to the neo-Ottoman aspirations of Aliyev and Erdogan - the dictators of Azerbaijan and Turkey. Under the cover of Covid and the wandering eyes of the international community, these two butchers of the Caucasus embarked on 44 days of war crimes against our Armenian brothers and sisters of Artsakh, committing ethnic cleansing and threatening genocide. As we embark on 2021, the Armenian-Australian community pledges to do all in our power to push you to prioritise your citizens ahead of foreign dictators, and #RecognizeArtsakh! Happy New Year and Merry Christmas. To our community, Thank you for rallying despite the grief and mourning emanating from the war, and in spite of the technical issues associated with the parliamentary petition system, you signed your support to our compatriots in the Armenian motherland! 05.01.2022 DOSSIER 2# - SERIES ON TURKEY-BACKED AZERBIJAN'S INTERNATIONAL BREACHES OF HUMAN RIGHTS AND ACTS OF WAR CRIMES. During the outbreak of the conflict, the gover...nment of Azerbaijan has deliberately targeted the civilians and civilian infrastructures of Azerbaijan, marking a continual perverse violation of international humanitarian law. They have used Smerch rocket launchers, armed with banned cluster munitions relentlessly. During these attacks, medics are often unable to reach citizens to provide aid. This has also led to international journalists becoming injured, with Vice News announcing they will be leaving Stepanakert, the capital of Artsakh, for safety concerns. This attack on civilians, schools, and homes is a heinous war crime, and must be condemned by the international community. See more
05.01.2022 BREAKING! Trent Zimmerman MP in Australian Parliament: This Conflict is the Result of Azerbaijani Actions Member of North Sydney, Trent Zimmerman MP has deliver...ed an impassioned plea in Australia's Federal Parliament for the international community "not to sit back and hope that the parties will themselves come together but to actively intervene and tell the Azerbaijanis that their actions today simply are unacceptable". "The most important reason why Australians should care about this conflict in the region of Nagorno-Karabakh, or Artsakh, is that we know that if the Azerbaijani government prevails, the world will witness ethnic cleansing, which will put the livelihoods and, in fact, the lives of hundreds of thousands of residents in Nagorno-Karabakh at threat," he said. "There can be no doubt that these actions, which have been long foreshadowed by the President of Azerbaijan, have one goal in mindthat is, to see every person of Armenian heritage in Nagorno-Karabakh, or Artsakh, forced from their homes, forced from their traditional lands and forced out of that country, one way or the other." Zimmerman added: "The international community must get involved. It must put pressure on the Azerbaijani government to stop its activities. Of course, they say in war the first loss is that of truth, but the reality is that Armenia had nothing to gain and a hell of a lot to lose by military action against Azerbaijan. So I, therefore, respectfully suggest that this conflict is the result of Azerbaijani actions. It has, as I said earlier, long been the goal of the Azerbaijani president to reclaim by force these territories." The Chair of the Australian Parliament's House of Representatives Committee on Health, Sport & Ageing then turned his attention on the dictatorship of Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey, who has assisted self-confessed "two states, one nation" partner Azerbaijan through the deployment of Ankara-backed Islamist jihadist mercenaries from Syria and air support. "What particularly concerns me is that we have seen other players get involved, particularly the Turkish government and its allies within its community. That has seen, at best, the Turkish government provide moral support for Azerbaijani actions. At worst, there is growing evidence that we are actually seeing Turkish interests supporting the military operations that are underway, potentially including the use of mercenaries from Syria," he said.
