22.01.2022 From Shushan Stepanyan, the Press Secretary of the Minister of Defence of Armenia. 21.01.2022 Merci France! The French Senate has recognised the Republic of Artsakh with a comprehensive 305-1 vote. Our colleagues at the ANC of Europe (EAFJD - European Armenian Federation for Justice and Democracy) explain:... The French Senate recognized the Republic of Artsakh/Nagorno Karabakh The resolution condemns the military aggression of Azerbaijan against the people of Nagorno Karabakh, emphasizing that Azerbaijan has been supported by the Turkish authorities i.a. through with the involvement of jihadist mercenaries and calls for the immediate withdrawal of the Azerbaijani armed forces from the territories occupied after 27 September, 2020. The French Senators also call for providing massive humanitarian aid to the civilian population of Nagorno Karabakh call for conducting an international investigation into the war crimes committed by Azerbaijan in particular against the civilian population of Nagorno Karabakh including the use of weapons prohibited by the international law call for an appropriate and firm response to Turkey for its role in this conflict call for action from the French Government to do everything in its power to ensure that negotiations for a lasting resolution of the conflict resume under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group emphasize that the negotiations should address the restoration of the borders defined in 1994 as well as the security of the Armenian populations and the right of return of displaced persons and the preservation of Armenian cultural and religious heritage. The resolution underlines that the security and freedom of the Armenian populations of Artsakh are not guaranteed under the Azerbaijani control, which is i.a. attested in the reports of the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance of the Council of Europe (ECRI) and of the UN Committee for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD). The Senate reminds of the Armenian massacres of Soumgaït, Kirovabad, in Baku and Maragha, systemically organized by the Azerbaijani authorities. The resolution of the French Senate also states that the Turkish military support provided to Azerbaijan is at the origin of the war unleashed on 27 September by Azerbaijan. It denounces the deployment of jihadist mercenary groups from Syria by Azerbaijan and Turkey. #RecognizeArtsakh

21.01.2022 There are currently 151 members of the House of Representatives, each representing a geographic area in Australia referred to as their electorate. Members of Parliament are elected for three-year terms, and - when in Parliament - take part in debates and vote on proposed laws and public policy, representing the views of their constituents. At times when Parliament is not sitting, members work in their electorates, assisting locals by acting as their conduit to the legislative... and executive branches of government. Some Members of Parliament are assigned to Ministerial or Shadow Ministerial portfolios, which means they also need to manage those duties. Only elected parliamentarians (MPs and Senators) can be assigned to such Cabinet roles in Australia. Through the Monday social media series, we translate common Australian political terms into Armenian. #TarkMonday

17.01.2022 LATEST! #EndYourSilence Social Media Campaign Sees Hundreds Call on Australia to #RecognizeArtsakh Hundreds of Australians have participated in the Armenian National Committee of Australia’s (ANC-AU) #EndYourSilence social media campaign, aimed at spreading awareness about Azerbaijan’s attacks on the Republic of Artsakh and to call out the Federal Government and national media for their "death-ening silence". On 27th September 2020, Azerbaijan backed by Turkey who deployed ...Islamist Jihadist terrorists and provided air support launched a wide-scale offensive along the entire Artsakh border. The subsequent 44 days saw debilitating attacks on Artsakh’s military and their civilian towns, made more devastating by Baku’s use of criminal weapons including white phosphorus and cluster munitions, strikes on churches, schools, hospitals, civilian homes. This has all led to Azerbaijan’s invasion of the indigenous Armenian nation, as Russia brokered a one-sided ceasefire agreement. During the attacks, the Australian media compromised truth for false equivalence of the roles played by the aggressors and their victims, while the Australian Government is yet to make a truthful statement that satisfies the Armenian-Australian community, who are calling on Canberra to recognise the Republic of Artsakh as #RecognizeArtsakh is the only lasting solution to the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. The #EndYourSilence social media campaign saw members of the Armenian-Australian community standing in solidarity with Armenia and Artsakh by taking photos with their hands covering their mouths, protesting the oil-billions and diplomatic threats that gagged Australia from their commitment to speak out for human rights. By sharing the campaign on social media platforms, along with the infographic of facts and instructions outlining the purpose of the campaign, it allowed for greater use of voices to reach as many people as possible. "Seeing the silence of the media and government was the main driver behind this campaign, said Selina Abram. We hoped to change the narrative, bypassing the media and taking our message straight to the Australian public through the use of social media. The pictures prompted countless conversations and helped us get the message out at a grassroots level. Raising money for the homeland was the cherry on top. Abram is a senior marketing professional with 14 years’ experience working across a variety of brands, verticals and within B2B and B2C environments. With a passion and focus on digital channels, her strategic thinking was a driving force behind the creation of the campaign. The ANC-AU will be donating $5 to the All Armenia Fund for every post or story that was shared using #EndYourSilence during the campaign, bringing their total contribution to the Artsakh Appeal to $40,000, which includes ticket revenue from their 2020 Gala. http://www.anc.org.au//-EndYourSilence-Social-Media-Campai

07.01.2022 This morning, our thoughts are with the Armenian community of San Francisco after their community centre - adjacent to the St Gregory Armenian Apostolic Church - was set ablaze by suspected arsonists. The centre houses the local Armenian National Committee chapter, who have recently had to deal with Armenophobic crimes targeting their community. In July, San Franciscos Krouzian-Zekarian Vasbouragan Armenian School and adjacent community centre were vandalised with anti-Armen...ian, pro-Azerbaijani graffiti. We stand in solidarity with our colleagues at the ANCA and their chapters.

07.01.2022 Happy 29 Years of Independence, Armenia jan! This photograph was captured on the streets of Yerevan during celebrations after Armenia escaped the shackles of the Soviet Union and declared her Independence on September 21, 1991. The Armenian nation was always going to survive 70 years of communist authoritarianism and, in 1991, Yerevan was able to celebrate the return of their free Republic, initially achieved through blood, sweat and tears on May 28, 1918.... The Armenian nation has survived more trials and tribulations than most over thousands of years of rich global contribution, with significant battles against her existence including the Armenian Genocide of 1915 and, more recently, the attacks by Azerbaijan on the twin Armenian Republics of Armenia and Artsakh. In 2018, Armenians found their voices on the streets of Yerevan to reject corruption, while today they are fighting back from a devastating breakout of Covid-19 and continuing Azerbaijani aggression. Whatever your battles, you will survive. Together with Artsakh and your Diaspora, we always survive. And we will work hand-in-glove until we thrive. #

Jon Dee was a guest at the Armenian National Committee of Australia's 2020 Gala, which was held amidst another tragedy - this time the Armenian people were reeling from Azerbaijan's Turkey-backed attacks and subsequent invasion of the Republic of Artsakh. 06.01.2022 On the morning of October 15, 2020, video footage from the village of Hadrut in Nagorno-Karabakh emerged of Azeri soldiers capturing and later executing two Armenian soldiers. Mistreatment and murder of prisoners of war are prohibited under the Third Geneva Convention and is considered a war crime. The evidence came in the form of two videos, one depicting the capture of two men in Armenian uniforms (one being an elderly man) in the northern outskirts of Hadrut. The other vid...eo showed Azeri soldiers executing the same two men, bound and draped in the Armenian and self-declared Republic of Artsakh flags, in a square in southern Hadrut. We condemn these acts of grave violations of human rights. #StopAzerbaijaniAggression #Actsagainsthumanity

Amnesty International’s Crisis Response experts were able identify the use of Israeli-made M095 DPICM cluster munitions fired by Azerbaijani forces into residential areas of the Republic of Artsakh's capital, Stepanakert. ... The use of cluster bombs in any circumstances is banned under international humanitarian law, so their use to attack civilian areas is particularly dangerous and will only lead to further deaths and injuries, said Denis Krivosheev, Amnesty International’s acting Head of Eastern Europe and Central Asia.

04.01.2022 IN CASE YOU MISSED IT... Creator of Armenian Genocide Podcast, James Robins Honoured with ANC-AU Ben Bagdikian Media Award The Armenian National Committee of Australia's (ANC-AU) Annual Gala honoured Mr. James Robins with the organisation's Ben Bagdikian Media Award recognising those in media who have had the greatest impact raising awareness concerning matters important to Armenian-Australians.... Mr. Robins is a British/New Zealand award-winning journalist and historian, the producer and host of "The Great Crime", a podcast about the Armenian Genocide and author of When We Dead Awaken: Australia, New Zealand, and the Armenian Genocide. This award is for Mr. Robins' work on The Great Crime podcast, where as the writer and presented, he took an in-depth look at plight of the Armenian people during the dying days of the Ottoman Empire, when they committed the Genocide beginning 24th April 1915. "The Great Crime was created to bring the latest and most up to date knowledge of the Armenian Genocide to the public in an accessible and engaging way, so ordinatry people can grasp the tragic shape of this history, said New Zealand resident Mr. Robins via video message from his current base in London. This award was being handed out for the second time after broadcaster Mr. Alan Jones became the original recipient in 2019, and is named after Armenian Genocide survivor Mr. Ben Bagdikian, who was featured in Steven Spielberg’s film The Post (2017), recounting his time as assistant managing editor of The Washington Post where excerpts of the Pentagon Papers were published, exposing classified material regarding US involvement in the military campaign in Vietnam despite strong opposition from the Nixon administration. Mr. Robins added: "The series is tough to listen to, but this is deliberate ... I tried not to spare any horrors as that would be deceitful ... it would go against all the principles Ben Bagdikian lived by. It is a joy to receive an award in his name, someone who I knew of even before I began to study the genocide. His example and his legacy is a model to journalists everywhere. He was a man who had a sense of justice hardcoded into every fibre of his being, who sought to do battle with injustice wherever he found it." ANC-AU Executive Director Haig Kayserian congratulated Robins as a pioneer of bringing the story of the Armenian Genocide to new media. "Mr. James Robins’ podcast is a pioneering use of new media to promote the awareness of the Armenian Genocide as one of the most heinous crimes against humanity, making the information engaging and digestible for a new audience," said Kayserian. 04.01.2022 BREAKING! Former Australian Defence Minister Joel Fitzgibbon Joins Armenian, Assyrian, Greek Calls for Genocide Recognition Australias former Defence Minister and current Shadow Minister for Agriculture & Resources, Joel Fitzgibbon MP has reaffirmed his longstanding backing for national recognition of the Armenian, Assyrian and Greek Genocides by signing an affirmation of support for the Joint Justice Initiative of the Armenian-Australian, Assyrian-Australian and Greek-Austr...alian communities. Fitzgibbon has long been a committed and vocal supporter on this cause, and has spoken on this matter in Parliament, including seconding a historic 2018 motion in Australias House of Representatives recognising Australias first major international humanitarian relief effort, which was in aid of orphans and survivors of the Armenian Genocide. During the debate on that motion, the Federal Member for Hunter said: "I have come to the conclusion our community of nation spends too much time playing word games, arguing about whether what the Armenian people suffered in 1915 was or was not genocide. The Armenian genocide and seven decades of Soviet rule would be enough to break the spirit of any culture or community, but Armenians are resilient and tough." Armenian National Committee of Australia (ANC-AU) Executive Director, Haig Kayserian said: "As the current co-convener of the Australia-Armenia Inter-Parliamentary Union (Friendship Group), Mr. Joel Fitzgibbon has consistently demonstrated his ongoing support for Federal Australian recognition of the 1915 Genocide." "Armenian-Australians, Assyrian-Australians and Greek-Australians are grateful for Mr. Fitzgibbon and his growing list of colleagues urging Australia joins the correct side of history on this important issue of human rights." 03.01.2022 Twitter in Australia Trends #StopAliyev Campaign by the Armenian Youth Federation of Australia The Armenian Youth Federation of Australia (AYF-AU / AYF Australia) ran a social media campaign inviting posts on Twitter which expose the war-mongering Azerbaijani regime of Ilham Aliyev, asking for posts carrying the hashtag #StopAliyev, and it trended as number one on the national feed of the hugely popular website... "To trend number one during a business day means countless peo...ple who are active on the Twitter in Australia, including many influencers like politicians and journalists, would have seen the #StopAliyev hashtag and become better acquainted with the aggression of the regime led by Azerbaijan's dictator and of the rights of the Armenians Baku consistently attacks," said ANC-AU Executive Director, Haig Kayserian. "AYF-AU needs to be congratulated for their innovative use of technology during this COVID-19 edition of Artsakh Awareness Week, as they managed to counter the petro-millions Azerbaijan spends on misinformation through the grassroots efforts of our community's volunteers." Hugh McDermott MP Awarded Friend of the Year by Armenian-Australian Community The Armenian National Committee of Australia (ANC-AU) presented the Armenian Community's Friend of the Year Award to New South Wales Member for Prospect, Dr. Hugh McDermott MP for his ongoing promotion of issues of importance to Armenian-Australians.... 02.01.2022 BREAKING! ANC-AU Calls for Australian Representation to UNESCO Regarding Azerbaijani Destruction of Armenian Cultural Heritage in Artsakh An appeal has been made to Australia's Ambassador to United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), Her Excellency Megan Anderson requesting Canberra's intervention to stop Azerbaijan's destruction of Armenian cultural heritage sites in the recently-invaded Republic of Artsakh. The Armenian National Committee of ...Australia (ANC-AU) has written to Ms Anderson and Australia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Senator the Hon. Marise Payne, detailing the sources of Armenian-Australian concerns as Azerbaijan's history of desecrating sites of historical significance, as well as their more recent actions. "In what has been labelled as one of the greatest cultural genocides of the 21st century, Azerbaijan destroyed thousands of Armenian cross-stones (khatchkars) in Nakhichevan in late 2005, which has been captured by video footage from the Iranian border," the ANC-AU letter reads. "Khatchkars, standing vertically, date back to the 6th century and are unique to Armenian burial traditions. These distinctive and tall cross-stones are highly ornate and detailed with symbols, and patterns. In Nakhichevan, an enclave under Azerbaijan control since Soviet times, has seen the destruction and obliteration of 89 Armenian churches, 5,840 khatchkars, and 22,000 tombstones." "A similar fate is threatening to occur in Artsakh unless there is international intervention." The ANC-AU letter added: "Among the sites under threat include: Ghazanchetsots Cathedral located in Shushi; Dadivank monastery (founded in 1st century, built between 9-13th century); Gandzasar monastery; Gtichavank monastery; Amaras Monastery; Handaberd fortress; Yerits Mankants monastery; Katavorank monastery; and many others." "The Ghazanchetsots Cathedral in Shushi has already been vandalised, as have other Armenian churches within days of occupation. During the war, this cathedral was deliberately bombed twice with missiles by Azerbaijani forces, backed by Turkey." ANC-AU called on the Australia's Ambassador to UNESCO to make representations to ensure the necessary international pressure to stop the eradication of indigenous Armenian history in occupied Artsakh. "The Nagorno Karabakh enclave (Artsakh) has been inhabited for thousands of years by an indigenous Armenian population, and seeks self-determination after declaring independence in 1991 in accordance with international law and the then-applicable Soviet Constitution following a democratic referendum. We urge the Australian government not to allow Artsakh to become another Nakhichevan," the letter concluded. READ AT http://www.anc.org.au//ANC-AU-Calls-for-Australian-Represe
