18.01.2022 Pancakes are one of the earliest foods dating back to circa 3300 BC. Eaten around the world, they are delicious with so many different toppings. Basically a starchy batter cooked in a frying pan or on a griddle. In #france, #southafrica and #belgium they like them thin, crêpes. In #uganda they are made from banana or plantain and in #southindia they are made from fermented rice. 17.01.2022 Herodotus (484 c. 425 BC) was an #ancientgreek #historian who was born in Halicarnassus in the Persian Empire (modern-day Bodrum, Turkey). He is known for having written the book "The Histories on the origins of the Greco-Persian Wars". 16.01.2022 We are always researching and investigating heritage cooking and thought we would share this with you. The making of our modern palate goes back a long way and some #recipes never lose their appeal. Ancient Roman #pesto aka Moretum (latin) Moretum is usually translated as salad, but today we would liken this recipe more to a pesto. I just love a good pesto. A poem written around 825 A.D. attributed to #virgil contains this recipe. If you wish to read the poem in its entire...ty go to virgil.org/appendix/moretum.htm The #poem is about a peasant Similus who prepares bread and a mixture of garlic, salty hard cheese, oil, vinegar, and fresh herbs to eat with it. INGREDIENTS 2 head garlic 1 tbsp. coarse or kosher salt 1/2 lb. aged pecorino cheese Celery leaves from 3 stalks 1/2 bunch coriander 1 tbsp. fresh thyme leaves 1 tbsp. dried dill 3 sprig of the leaves oregano 2 tbsp. Extra virgin olive oil 2 tsp. white wine vinegar DIRECTIONS Place the garlic and salt in a mortar and mash with a pestle. Add the cheese, celery leaves and other herbs and continue pounding to purée. Slowly drizzle in the oil until a thick paste is formed. Add the vinegar, pounding to incorporate. Remove the moretum and shape into a ball. Eat with a coarse bread. #pesto #pestopasta #pestogenovese #pestosauce #cookbookaddict #recipesbyyou #recipecards #recipesbook #foodheroes #cookbookrecipe #heirloomrecipes #cookbookjunkie #cookbookshoot #cookbookobsessed #cookbookstagram #cookbookaddiction #cookbookpublisher #recipesoninstagram #cookbookobsession #mumsrecipes #cookbookgram #cookbookdesign #cookbookrecipes #recipesoninstag #recipescrapbook #recipesaving #cookbookstyling #StoriesOnFood #futurecookbookauthor

15.01.2022 There many very ancient recipes that, in some form, we still cook today. Stew is one of the oldest dishes. The stew is a beautiful mess of vegetables, meat, poultry and a myriad of other ingredients, cooked slowly over gentle heat. With liquid, either water, wine and even sometimes beer. The practice of simmering meat in liquids over the fire until tender dates back 7,000 to 8,000 years. Archaeology has found that many Amazonian tribes used the hard exterior shells of large ...mollusks as utensils for making stews. Ancient Greek philosopher Herodotus wrote a Scythian, approximately 8th to 4 centuries BC, recipe that is similar to stews we eat today. #stew #herodotus #ancestrybookcreators #familyhistorybook #familyheirloomcookbook #tributememoirs #foodphotography #recipes #cookbook #recipebook #recipedevelopment #foodhistory #cookbookaddict #recipebox #cookbookauthor #recipecreator #recipebooks #recipesbyyou #foodheritage #recipecards #mycookbook #recipesbook #cookbookrecipe #cookbookjunkie #cookbookobsessed #cookbookstagram #cookbookaddiction #cookbookpublisher #cookbookobsession

14.01.2022 Some people have always had an interest in family history, but the family history revolution, it seems, was sparked by people the world over reading and watching "Roots". 13.01.2022 This is just so interesting, we are fascinated by the lifes and stories about the First Fleet coming to Australia. The First Fleet was the 11 ships that departed from Portsmouth, England, on 13 May 1787 to found the penal colony that became the first European settlement in Australia. The Fleet consisted of two Royal Navy vessels, three store ships and six convict transports, carrying between 1,000 and 1,500 convicts, marines, seamen, civil officers and free people (accounts d...iffer on the numbers), and a large quantity of stores. From England, the Fleet sailed southwest to Rio de Janeiro, then east to Cape Town and via the Great Southern Ocean to Botany Bay, arriving over the period of 18 to 20 January 1788, taking 250 to 252 days from departure to final arrival. Wikipedia Very few ships had been to Australia before this. Arthur Phillip was the first Governor of New South Wales, this is a picture of him painted by Francis Wheatley and a picture of the fleet entering Port Jackson 26 January 1788. It is shocking when you look at the crimes for which someone could be sentenced to transportation. Charles Johnson was convicted for stealing a linen handkerchief and piece of ribbon, it was 1785 he was 21 years old. He was sentenced to transportation for 7 years and left England in May 1787 on the "Alexander" when he was 23 years old. He was dead before the new year. Times were so extremely harsh. The University of Wollongong has a a comprehensive resource for anyone to use. http://firstfleet.uow.edu.au/objectv.html We'll be adding more resources including this one to help with your #familyhistory search to the website (link in bio) soon #ancestrybookcreators #familyhistorybook #familyheirloomcookbook #tributememoirs #memories #culture #ancestry #beforeandafter #hobby #photogram #nostalgia #tradition #stories #legacy #past #traditions #nostalgic #reminiscing #ancestors #families #familyisforever #remembering #heirlooms #memoriesmade #remembrance #descendants #familytree #memoir

03.01.2022 We are looking into Irish history, in the county of #Waterford. Waterford has an interesting past. Early medieval and #Viking era (8001166) In #Ireland. The first recorded Viking raid in Irish history occurred in 795 AD when Vikings from Norway looted the island. Early Viking raids were generally fast-paced and small in scale. 02.01.2022 We have been researching the surname 'Stammers'. It is an interesting and unusual surname, it seems to be an English name with various possible beginnings. Perhaps a nickname for a Stammerer or Stutterer, which in Middle English stameren, Old English stamerian, to stammer. Or the patronymic form (son of) of Stammer, itself derived from the Olde English personal name 'Stanmorr'. This pre 7th century a.d. personal or baptismal name is composed of the elements 'stan', stone a...nd 'moer', - famous. Quite why anybody should be called 'Famous stone' is unclear, but the origin is probably a religious temple such as 'Stone-henge' or similar. It maybe that it is a habitational name from a place such as Stanmer in Sussex or Stanmore in Middlesex. I guess we will never know how this client came to have their surname. In England in 1841 most people with the surname Stammers worked as agricultural laborers, but in 1951 more of them were scholars. So the 'Stammers' had started having their children schooled. Which is interesting because until 1870 all schools were charitable or private institutions, but in that year the Elementary Education Act 1870 permitted local governments to complement the existing elementary schools in order to fill any gaps. Fast forward to near the present day, 2014 and the highest density of people with the surname stammers lived in Jersey, about 1 in 8,000. This is a picture by Andy Scott of a sarsen stone at the Seven Sisters, Monument on Flagstaff Brow. The Seven Sisters are a series of chalk cliffs by the English Channel. They form part of the South Downs in East Sussex. The builders of Stonehenge used these stones for the heelstone and sarsen circle uprights. @geniunebritain #sevensisters #sevensisterscliffs #sussex #historicalrecords #historyUK #lineagejourney #AncestorsWork #ancestorsremembered #rememberinglife #genealogyisfun #genealogyquotes #genealogychallenge #findyourancestors #genealogyiscool #genealogycenter #genealogyuk #memoirsofagoodthing #preservestories #storieswelive #ancestorsarenotdead #ancestorsithankyou
