25.01.2022 Life Before Covoid / still so much work on at the moment, with about 7 weddings to finish editing and a number of albums to finalise, like Sarah and Carlo’s . Trying to concentrate my energies on what is yet to do rather than what is yet to come helps me get up in the morning. It’s so easy to get caught up in the sense of despair and defeat, you got to have some structure, something to hold onto in times like this. For me it’s continuing with work, investing more time in art practice, and trying to still my mind. Some days I win, some days I don’t...

25.01.2022 In a pro active effort to destroy the sense of despair and disillusionment that has descended upon us all these last few weeks, I’ve turned back to some of the amazing days I’ve been part of this year and started blogging them. Yes blogging, that lost art form from pre Insta days (don’t look confused kids, ask Ma and Pa). First up are the Uber babes Mark and Chloe, whose @thesubstation wedding still gives me all the feels thinking about it. Hard to believe it was less than 8 weeks ago ; how the world has changed...

24.01.2022 This beautiful couple celebrated their 1st Anniversary yesterday by dropping off a bottle of fine Japanese Whisky at my door! Fair to say a new bar has now been set by Ash and Annette and I warmly welcome all future and past clients to try and better this mark

21.01.2022 Yesterday I was down in Portsea to capture Gordon and Maria’s nuptials. What can I say about these two - both so accomplished, and yet so humble, so generous and so warm. It was truly a pleasure to be in their company on what was the clearly the happiest day of their lives.

20.01.2022 Journey to the End of Night - this was my very final frame from Chloe & Mark’s @thesubstation wedding and one of my favourites. Perhaps it’s the movement, perhaps it’s the way her jumpsuit cuts against the dark, or perhaps it’s the metaphorical descent into the unknown. I’m not really sure, but I like how it is more suggestive rather than defined. It allows the eye room to move, and the mind surely follows...

18.01.2022 These guys both did such beautiful speeches on Saturday night. Your wedding night is one of the few opportunities in life to publicly profess your gratitude for the sacrifices and contributions that your friends and family have made for you, and it was great to see, and hear, both Maria and Gordon make the most of this opportunity.

15.01.2022 Historical image from circa early 2020 ; couples in love engaged in a ritual called a wedding where family and guests would join them in intimate celebration and the couple themselves were encouraged to touch each other in public... ok, let’s all do our best to ensure that this isn’t in fact an historical image by looking after each other and staying at home as much as we can. Love continues, it has conquered hate and it has conquered bigotry, and it has conquered the threat of infectious disease and it will do so again. Love will never be defeated, and if we all play our part, by sacrificing for such a small time, we will be able to take to the streets and celebrate it like never before.

15.01.2022 Yesterday I found myself in Portsea shooting Gordon and Maria’s wedding day. It was a hugely enjoyable day, as they were both so at ease in front of the camera. They both come from very supportive and loving families, and I imagine this is a large part of why they remain so warm, generous and humble despite being highly accomplished professionals in their chosen fields. I feel infinitely grateful to make my living by documenting couples during one of the happiest days of thei...r lives. For 99% of my couples, they’re basically inviting a complete stranger into the inner sanctum of their life, and that requires an incredible amount of trust on their part. I’m reasonably confident that I will always deliver in a photographic sense, but that’s only one part of the job. Just as important is my ability to deliver the type of experience that my clients want to have ; generally this is a relaxed, stress free shoot where they actually have time to enjoy the day for what it is. As I said goodbye last night, both Maria and Gordon thanked me for the way I put them at ease throughout the day and helped keep things calm. It’s satisfying to hear this at the end of a long day, but for me this is simply a requisite part of the job - successful wedding photography is as much about people management as it is creative ability. 09.01.2022 The team at @poppyculture_hq put together some stunning florals for Maria and Gordon’s wedding yesterday, and along with @theluxxco absolutely transformed the otherwise plain looking @theepicurean_redhill into something else entirely!

09.01.2022 One of the highlights of shooting Wallis and Adam's @campbellpointhouse wedding a few weeks back, was undoubtedly witnessing this beautiful relationship between Wallis, her sisters Megan and Kirsten and Adam's daughters Ruby and Roxy. The five of them just had an incredible dynamic, and with Ruby and Roxy being mature beyond their years, they just bounced off each other's excitement all day long, just as 5 old friends might. As I edit this wedding I recall how many of the gu...ests had made the long trek from Scotland and England to join in the festivities, and it just reinforces how much the world has changed in the short time since. Those things that we once took for granted are now so profoundly missed. I'm burning the midnight lamp to complete the editing of my remaining weddings so that I can share these special days with all those involved, and perhaps let them reflect on happier times, both as a relief from we're we all find ourselves now, but also as a glimmer of hope for as we look forward to a manifestly different future. Like dinosaurs, like empires, like hypercolour and jeggings, all things pass... * * * * * #australia #australianwedding #bride #bridalcouture #beauty #bw #blackandwhite #melbourne #melbournewedding #melbourneweddingphotography #melbourneweddingphotographer #melbournebrides #melbournestyle #wedding #weddingphotography #weddingphotographer #weddinginspo #victoria #weddingdress #portraits #weddingflowers #weddingprep #midcenturyarchitecture See more

07.01.2022 Between taking a booking and the wedding day, I try to learn as much as I can about my client's and more specifically their plans. An essential part of the day is knowing who is involved ; who'll be standing beside you, which family members will be in attendance, and who you'd like me to pay special attention. For weddings are much bigger than the couple themselves - I think all my previous clients would agree with that. They're one of those all too rare opportunities to have... all of your loved ones in the same place. A night with which to create memories that will carry you through both the good and bad times that you'll undoubtedly face at one time or another. I don't create memories, you'll do that yourself. I simply capture and interpret what is played out before me, I create images, portals back to these memories, windows to a time passed. * * * * * #australia #australianwedding #bride #weddingstyle #beauty #bw #blackandwhite #melbourne #melbournewedding #melbourneweddingphotography #melbourneweddingphotographer #melbournebrides #melbournestyle #wedding #weddingphotography #weddingphotographer #weddinginspo #victoria #weddingdress #portraits #weddingflowers #groomstyle #morningtonpeninsula #coastalweddings #mornintonweddings #melbournerestaurants #melbournefood #blacktiewedding #weddingstyle #weddinginspiration See more

06.01.2022 I’m 45. I’m not sure that I’ve lived through a week in which so much has changed. Last Saturday I shot Gordon and Maria’s @theepicurean_redhill wedding and the precautions at that stage were limiting handshakes and hugs. A week already seems like a month ago. Like most of the wedding industry I’ve spent the entire week trying to keep in touch with my clients, offer options in terms of postponement dates etc. in some respects it’s been my most successful week as a wedding phot...ographer and I haven’t even gone close to a camera. But the job is so much more than what happens on the day. It’s first and foremost people management. And I’d like to think that I’ve excelled at that over the last 7 days. There’s a whole lot more pain to come. Even at this early stage, a number of popular Melbourne venues have sadly announced that they’re closing their doors immediately because the loss of projected income over the next 6 months makes them unviable. Many wedding vendors, whether they’re photographers, videographers, celebrants, florists etc will not survive this economic downturn. And all of this means that next season looks like this - twice as many weddings as usual (at a minimum), with a drastically reduced number of venues available and a markedly reduced number of vendors to service them. If you’re one of the unlucky couples affected by this, here is some salient advice. 1) Secure your vendors asap or face being left without a choice! If you secure your wedding team now you’ll have your choice of suppliers and your deposit will actually help keep their businesses alive. 2) Forget Saturday. We book more than 12 months out, so most Saturday’s for next season are already booked. Look at Fridays , look at Sundays and more than ever, look at Thursdays - Thursdays are the new Saturday! A Thursday afternoon wedding lets your guests schedule a Friday off and enjoy an extended long weekend. And if you have been lucky enough to marry in the last 6 months, now is a great time to order an album or prints from your photographer. Not only will you receive a far superior product, you’ll be helping to keep the businesses you believed in afloat in these unprecedented times. See more

02.01.2022 I’m hearing that there maybe a government announcement in the next 12 hrs or so which might have a profound impact upon the plans of my clients, and in turn my own livelihood, for the next 6 months. Rest assured while the prospect of no income at this point on my life is daunting, I will survive. My thoughts are with my many clients who find themselves in a terrible position of not knowing whether they’ll be able to proceed with plans. Know that whatever happens, I’ll support your decisions 100%. I will not be charging any extra for weddings that are postponed, your deposits and booking will simply be transferred to the new date. And if Gordon and Maria’s wedding last Saturday is to be my last for awhile, I couldn’t have asked for a better crew with who to spend the day. Stay positive
