17.01.2022 TOTAL FIRE BAN is still in effect Please spread the word to remind your neighbours that a complete fire ban is in effect. I had to fight a grass fire this afternoon to slow it whilst waiting for the fire brigade to arrive. The fire was 7 metres from the house and literally minutes from escaping into the bushland next door and engulfing the house. The neighbour had lit some old wood in a fire pit to tidy up and the wind blew the embers into dry grass. Within seconds the fi...re was out of control and spreading up the hill. The Gympie fire brigade and rural firefighting volunteers did an amazing job to quickly extinguish the blaze. You’d be amazed at how quickly it climbed the gum trees. I was not expecting to get to my partner’s house this afternoon and find the yard ablaze. My lungs are still aching from the smoke. The neighbour said he didn’t know there was a fire ban, so please spread the word. See more
