12.01.2022 Salt as delicate as lace. We've never seen anything like this salt we found at Lake Deborah this summer. We think this filigree salt was formed as strong winds blew across a patch of concentrated salt brine, sweeping it into lacy tendrils as it crystallised. Wind action is the key to Lake Deborah's unique minerals. It's hard to believe, but all the salt in Lake Deborah was carried here over millions of years by winds blowing across the seas and carrying the minerals inland. 04.01.2022 We're celebrating National Science Week this week, so we thought it would be nice to share some of the science behind the source of our unique minerals! Research by the CSIRO discovered that millions of years ago what is now Lake Deborah was part of the ancient Avon River system. Over aeons mineral-rich sea spray was blown over the land from the Indian Ocean and deposited on the landscape, and then returned to the sea by the mighty Avon. ... This cycle continued until around three million years ago when a series of climate and geological events took place that dried out the landscape, blocked the flow out of Lake Deborah and redirected the route of the river. Over millions of years, all the ancient sea minerals collected in Lake Deborah were now marooned there with no means of escape back to the ocean.
