21.01.2022 A message from EFRA: In January 2020 a group of us were asked to coordinate the receipt of what were largely internationally derived donations aimed at supporting the relief and recovery of the Australian equestrian community affected by the 2019-2020 bushfires. We created the Equestrian Fire Relief Fund of Australia (EFRA). Donations are still arriving, though we are about to bring receipts to a close. Overall nearly $200,000 is now being distributed. We have relied heavily... on the Australian Sports Foundation (ASF) to manage receipts, providing tax deductibility for Australian donors, and the distribution process. This has made the governance and distribution independent of our small group, transparent and properly governed. Distribution is now being finalised, on behalf of EFRA, through an ASF run grants program. Funds will be distributed through clubs and associations in the fire affected areas. The grants program will be open for submissions from 1-30 Sep 2020. Details of the grants program and application process is available here: https://sports.smapply.io//equestrian_fire_relief_austral/ The EFRA Grants will focus on facilitating support to equestrians in Australia’s bushfire affected areas, regardless of membership or affiliation with any particular equestrian association. The grants are open to all types of individual equestrians and not for profit clubs/organisations. Please feel free to share this information with your members, and other clubs we may not have identified. We also encourage you to urge affected individuals to submit an application. Warm regards The EFRA Team

18.01.2022 Meet your Purebred Judge for the 2021 AHAA Virtual Show - Naomi Vance-Webb Naomi's Bio: I have owned horses, or been involved with them for most of my life. My ...first Iberian (PRE) was Diverti Mundo, a quirky 9 year old gelding that I bought in about 1988/89 and I was hooked on the PRE from that moment on. He taught me a lot, and we did everything together including horseball, dressage, quadrille displays and lovely hacking on the New Forest, usually in piaffe or passage! Around 1999/2000 I wanted to start breeding so purchased some youngsters from Antonio Diosdado Galan (one of the founders of the Royal School in Jerez). These 3 original horses all became UK National Show Champions, FAROL XXIX, NAPOLITANA XVII and MOLINERA XXXV. I’ve been breeding PRE’s since then on a small scale, with the aim always being to produce and breed a horse that could win in the show ring, AND do a job. Over the 20 years of our showing history, my stud farm won more National Championship titles than any other in the history of the UK, including several with my own homebred youngsters. We were the first to bring the coveted Calificado status horses into the UK and at one point our stud boasted a total of 4. All this has been achieved owning no more than 10-20 horses at any one time, and with a very careful selection and breeding programme. Having spent several years as a Director of BAPSH Limited (2010 - 2013 approx), I then established GBPRE as the affiliated ANCCE PRE Association for all competitions and Calificado gradings in the UK at the end of 2015/early 2016, with help from my colleague and friend, Karen Manzi and my other co-directors, and this continues to go from strength to strength. GBPRE hosted the first ever Calificado Tribunal (TRC) in the UK in 2019 which was very well attended and with excellent results for our UK bred horses. See more

10.01.2022 Hi All I am happy to introduce you to one of our judges for the 2021 AHAA Virtual Show judge - Kim Parks! Kim will be judging the Horse and Handler, Costume an...d Lunging classes. This is Kim’s bio: Like most young girls all I ever wanted to do was be with horses. I was lucky enough to have parents that indulged my passion. In the early 70's the now "Stoneleigh Stud" was purchased at Cobbitty NSW.We owned many perfect ponies surprisingly I lived through every one of them, learnt a lot the hard way until in 1976 when my love for the Andalusian breed began. My mother Bev Parks, met Ray Williams, one of the founders of the AHAA and the owner of the El Caballo Blanco, stud and entertainment centre in Perth WA, where he started a cross breeding programme that would introduce, in the long term, the Australian Andalusian. In 1977 Mr Williams built another El Caballo Blanco Catherine field NSW. I was to be the first-ever employee at NSW ECB From this my love, involvement and knowledge of this beautiful breed, grew.1981 I was lucky enough to be chosen to head up the venture to move 32 of his beautiful horses Buena Park California USA where he opened The Kingdom of Dancing Stallions and to see and experience hands, on the wonderful diversity, beautiful nature and natural calm of this incredible breed. I returned to Australia in 1982 where, my now wife, Michelle, were able to make a living out of training these beautiful horses and their riders. For the next 15 or so, successfully involved in competing/promoting these wonderful horses. I always entered in every class that was available and gave it my all. Because of our beautiful horses, Gallina, Diamond Girl and Manuka Montoya, I had the privilege of being the holder of the coveted Bodeguero trophy on many occasions, along with the pride of owning/campaigning 3 state and National champions titles that were achieved simultaneously and numerous times. My competition days are behind me. I will always remember them fondly and cherish the hands-on knowledge and experience gained through the years, attributes I call on when I have the opportunity to participate as a Judge. I consider it an honour to be asked to continue my involvement with this regal breed and across the years, I have had the pleasure of doing so, on many occasions. Too many to list them all, hundreds of local shows, 6 State Championships, Perth Nationals and 2 x Sydney Royal Easter shows. As of 2020 We still live on our property in Cobbitty NSW with two geriatrics down the back,1 of which is Gallina'sgrandson See more

10.01.2022 The AHAA Council recently added a new show rule strongly discouraging the trimming of whiskers and inner ear hair to its Show Rules. Now the FEI has outlawed trimming the whiskers of all international competition horses from 2021. The new rule was passed during the Federation’s General Assembly on 23 November 2020 as part of the veterinary regulations covering sport horses competing internationally under FEI rules in all disciplines. From July next year, horses who have had t...heir sensory hairs removed, unless for veterinary reasons, will be disqualified from FEI events. The wording, which was voted through unanimously, states that horses are not permitted to compete in FEI events if the horse’s sensory hairs have been clipped and/or shaven or in any other way removed unless individual sensory hairs have been removed by a veterinarian to prevent pain or discomfort for the horse. 08.01.2022 Nina Maher August 23 at 10:21 AM Now that spring is nigh I thought it may be helpful to put a gentle reminder out there to my horsey friends, in particular Andalusian owners that with the sunshine getting brighter and the nights still cold, this is prime laminitis weather. A few tips from my experience that you may find useful, please accept this in the helpful manner in which it is offered. I am sure everyone has their own experience. Horses can simmer away with a build ...up of proteins forming well before they present with sole separation and lameness, by then it is usually chronic, and you can expect your horse to be out for at least some months recuperating even with a very minor bout. It is always much easier to see signs in advance with a ridden horse in work. Andalusian’s evolved in arid conditions and are naturally good doers, this can lead to a tendency for them to carry excess weight and as owners this can run the risk of it being normalised. Laminitis can creep up and often every horse has slightly different symptoms which may be one or all: Signs & tips to look out for: 1. Elevated breathing at rest 2. Feet that are warm to the touch 3. Feet that grow faster than all your other horses 4. Swelling in legs after exercise 5. Sluggishness 6. In males a very fatty sheath, this is a big warning sign sometimes years in advance 7. Obesity or over weight -and rapid weight gain 8. Remember that Andalusian’s are very susceptible and can have issues just as easily from unsoaked hay (even meadow) as with fresh pasture 9. Can materialise at ANY age and the horse can be reasonably fit 10. Once your horse has had a bout of laminitis it is always at greater risk and will be infinitely more susceptible in future with much less driving environmental factors 11. A firm solid neck 12. August through to November are high risk months 13. Strong digital pulse 14. With the right care your horse can make a full recovery but it is important to understand that they will always require special care to avoid future instances I hope this helpful and enjoy your lovely horses See more
