25.01.2022 Few bottles up from the cellar !

24.01.2022 Schiste Ganevat is the emblem of the legendary Domaine Ganevat (Anne and Jean-François) in the Jura. He's goes everywhere and loves chewing the bungs that seal the wine barrels creating a comedy every tasting. These are simply some of the best wines to be found anywhere produced by people I adore - today we have put up twelve mixed 6 packs ! link in bio

23.01.2022 Giorgio @giorgiodemaria_fun_wines and I discussed putting Jura whites and Barolo together in a tasting many years ago and last week we made it happen @pnvmerchants with @mikebennie101 ! One of the best tastings I have done with all the wines weaving their magic

20.01.2022 This is basically showing impeccable balance and style > the Ayler Kupp is indeed a grand terroir @lauerwine

19.01.2022 LINK TO 2018 WINES https://mailchi.mp/andrewguard/2018-beaujolais-jules-metras Jules Métras, son of the legendary Yvon, has just released the fifth vintage of his own wines, a Beaujolais-Villages from two parcels in Bize, a very cold hamlet of the village Vauxrenard, a Chiroubles and a new wine this year from a parcel just near AOP limit of 500m altitude, called Chiroubles 'La Montagne'.... Jules makes the wine in much the same way his father does and side by side in the same cellar - the fruit, harvested relatively late, is cooled down before gentle, long, cool carbonic fermentation with natural yeasts in sealed concrete vats. The attention to detail meticulous with little notes in chalk written in code all along the various small cement tanks, just like his father. He has purchased two vineyards in Chiroubles, an area known for producing elegant and fine wines from it's rocky, stony high altitude terroir. With the Metras family touch these are seriously lovely wine that shows superb tension and purity! Jules is good freinds with the sons of two other legendary winemakers in his region; Alex Foillard (Jean Foillard) and Kewin Descombes (Georges Descombes) the future of fine, natural wines from the Beaujolais is very secure.

19.01.2022 Maxime and Michèle @micheleaubery from one of my favourite estates in the world! Domaine Gramenon @domainegramenon > Their first wines from 2020 will be here next month

18.01.2022 Just arrived, Testalonga 2019 wines from the brilliant Craig Hawkins. I still haven't visited him at his home in the Swartland; my senses taken there only through his wines which are among the most joyous ever. They pretty much disappear each year - if you'd like an offer please get in touch through my website

17.01.2022 Winter cleaning tonight

17.01.2022 2020 harvest at Houillon-Overnoy! Looks beautiful, three generations in this picture

16.01.2022 I still remember tasting Cecile Tremblay’s 2006 vintage in cask and being blown away. That happens every year now and even more as she becomes more assured every vintage. These are very great; very rare too.

16.01.2022 Lockdown requires lubricant

16.01.2022 JURA - I first met Nicolas Jacob when he was working with Jean-François Ganevat around 2012. When I found out he was going out on his own I immediately started looking around for bottles to taste and that did not prove easy as he was only working from a single hectare in L’Étoile. Things came to fruition in 2018 when I was eating at the great restaurant, La Cachette in Valence, with Thierry Allemand. He asked me to choose a wine and I spied a bottle of the 2016 Chardonnay Là...-Bas on the list; I ordered it and was very impressed indeed, I could see the Ganevat style of tightly coiled precision and finesse In December 2018, Nicolas acquired an additional 4 hectares of vines in Augea which is in the Sud-Revermont and south of Rotalier; in fact it is close to the boundary of the Saone-et-Loire departement. It came with a small home where he now lives with his wife and daughter and it has a cellar that he has scrupulously cleaned and organized and is perfect for his needs. We just received a little allocation of these rarities that will be here early 2021

14.01.2022 Finally mate it to see @bigsamyoung at Lotus; we all loved it especially Zoe - if you haven’t been get there soon

14.01.2022 Feel Good > Freddy setting the vibe is always a very good thing

13.01.2022 **Link to offer in my Instagram bio** https://mailchi.mp/andrewguard/loire-andree-april-2020 In France right now the region on everyone's lips is the Anjou - its piercing, soulful and majestic Chenin Blanc based whites and sturdy yet, lithe Cabernet Franc's are among the first wines you turn the pages of the wine list for - France's most famous wines and regions are not really available or affordable anymore; their reputation justified - but the door is closed. You may get ...to stand in line for a taste but you won't ever get to really drink them. This is exactly why producers like Angeli, Bernaudeau, Leroy, Boudignon and Erissé are so sought after - they produce minimal quantities of utterly captivating wines, and in the same way that Lapierre, Foillard, Breton, Thevenet and Metras did in the 80's in the Beaujolais; these guys are turning their slice of the Loire upside down. In may cases, these wines are already on allocation and therefore also close to consumption extinction - so don't miss these.. I was introduced to Stéphane Erissé a few years ago by Antoine Foucault of the Domaine du Collier. I always make a point of looking at the winemakers, whose wines I admire, drink in their downtime and if I am not familiar with the wines I ask about them. Antoine's eyes lit up, he opened a bottle, said that Stéphane had worked for his father and uncle at Clos Rougeard and then for him and was making wine not to be missed - we sipped on a bottle of his L'Envolée and I began to be convinced. Stéphane came to winemaking late in life, he first worked in the building industry before embarking on the profession of vigneron in 2010. Since that time he's ben working with the Foucault's and also with Cyril Fhal of Roussillon's Clos du Rouge Gorge - for work in the vines and the cellar, one could not have two better teachers!

12.01.2022 The ‘New World’ does Chardonnay extremely well, in the case of these two, extraordinarily well

12.01.2022 An astonishingly good bottle yesterday, this Savagnin comes from Chateau Chalon, a short passage sous voile then topped up for the rest of its elevage. This pulsates with energy and presence; I got up out of my chair after the first sip! Kudos @francoisroussetmartin

12.01.2022 I had a great day in February with Jean Foillard in Villié-Morgon. We tasted through the barrels of 2019 wines and then he gathered the current releases in bottles and we walked upstairs where he left me alone where I tasted them and took this photo along with my notes - notes that you can read tomorrow in my trade offer. Jean is one of the cornerstones of my interest and passion for wine and he’s one of the rare vignerons to be able to, every vintage, produce something captivating and enchanting

11.01.2022 Link below https://us5.campaign-archive.com/ Over the last five years or so it has become clear that certain vignerons and terroirs when combined together in the Anjou region are producing some of the most spellbinding dry Chenin Blanc wines on the planet and certainly among the finest white wines in all France.... They are produced in tiny volumes (Richard Leroy, Bernaudeau) and so are rare and have become cultified and hard to find. There is another vigneron, much further North in the Sarthe, making wines as good, sometimes better - Eric Nicolas at Domaine de Bellivière. As with his Anjou colleagues The style at Bellivière is one of crystalline-cool fruit with a laser-like precision to the structure, only softening as it slowly evolves with age. Domaine de Bellivière was created by Christine and Eric Nicolas in 1995 when they purchased La Ferme de Bellivière, (previously rented by Louis Derré) along with 3.5 hectares of vines. Currently with 7 hectares in Janières and 9 hectares in Coteaux-du-Loir, this intelligent and soft-spoken couple, now along with their son Clément, are the leaders in the region due to their inspired organic and biodynamic farming and their dedication to quality in every aspect of vineyard management and winemaking. All vineyard treatments are organic, careful plowing is done to protect soil fauna and minimal organic composts are applied. New plantings are by massale-selection from their old vines, vinifications are in barrel with wild yeasts, and their new cuverie permits all handling of the grapes and wine by gravity without pumping. I have ben a great fan of this this estate since meeting Christine and Eric in 2009 and tasting with them has always been insightful with thoughtful commentary from both these exceptional vignerons. Not to mention Christine's excellent cooking! Bellivière wines are made in a very natural manner but are meticulous and fine. Today Eric is famous for a magical and rare range of dry and gently dry Chenin Blanc produced from over 50 small parcels in Jasnières and the Coteaux-du-Loir. Everything he does is meticulous and the results are miraculous.

10.01.2022 Georges (Noune), Ghislaine and Kewin (Keke) > the Descombes clan of Vermont, a hillside hamlet of Villie-Morgon. This is one fun loving family! The wines have a playful edge but are qualitatively they are at the pinnacle. We will have some of their new 2018 wines very soon, a vintage they aced

08.01.2022 I went to the new Monopole last night, a great addition to the city but the @bentleyrestaurantbar group - check out @brent_savage new menu it’s

07.01.2022 Barral just landed - I drank the 2016 Faugères last night and it is one of the best reds of the year so far for me with many carnal nooks and crannies - if you live in Australia and would like to see an offer please go to the link here https://mailchi.mp/an/domaine-leon-barral-faugres-languedoc In this age when the best Bordeaux and Burgundies fetch stratospheric prices, it is reassuring to know that there are other regions of France producing great wines which the world ...has not yet discovered. The small region of Faugères just north of Béziers in the South West of France is one such region, and Léon Barral one of the country’s great winemakers. If you’re looking for wines with a difference, packed with personality and the flavours of the South of France, then look no further than the Carignan, Syrah and Grenache blends produced on this superb estate. Barral is the ultimate biodynamic farmer. He allows his cows and sheep to graze amongst his old bush-vines during the winter months as this provides them with the most natural form of fertiliser! In the winery, everything is natural, from the wild yeasts which ferment his grapes to the absence of sulphur or filtration. The resulting wines are pure, unadulterated expressions of the rugged, scrub-covered hills of this part of Mediterranean France and the perfect cold weather reds. Didier makes three full bodied red wines and a superb white, all have a cult following. These are the favorite red wines of Thierry Allemand and Maxime Magnon - he's one of the great vignerons of France producing wines of terroir that will age and improve as long as you like. These are the benchmark wines from the Languedoc in our portfolio.

07.01.2022 Vive La France > Bastille Menu by @monopole_sydney
