24.01.2022 Who joins our weekly calls to discuss all things wine? Great question, these wine tasting sessions are for a range of guests. Some of our guest join the Zoom calls already very experienced in wine culture, making and tasting. While many know they like or love wine, but are new to better understanding the why, how, when and where. Not only do you get to experience a range of wine brands and styles, but also learn about the wine making process and regions. You can book today for a trial class, or save and book 3. https://andrewcorrigan.com.au/wine-tasting/

23.01.2022 Andrew is a Master of Wine - but what does it *actually* mean? To obtain a Master of Wine certification (MW) awarded by the Institute of Masters of Wine, you must pass a three part examination comprising theory, practical and a research paper. Topics covered vary from viticulture to vinification to business of wine and trends in the industry. In comparison, the Master Sommelier (MS) certification, which is accorded by the London-based Court of Master Sommeliers, was set up to... boost the quality standards of beverage service in hotels and restaurants. The Master Sommelier diploma comprises four stages that culminate in a three-part exam that covers theoretical knowledge, practical tasting and service. While the Master Sommelier qualification is geared towards beverage service, the Master of Wine centres on testing for a wide and deep knowledge of the wine industry. It is considered the worlds highest wine accolade, and there are currently only 26 Masters of Wine in Australia. Find out more by following the link, and if you have any queries about the programme, don't hesitate to send Andrew an email. https://www.mastersofwine.org/about-us
21.01.2022 Was intrigued to try the wines in cricket legend Ricky Ponting's new wine collaboration venture, developed with former Wallaby Nathan Sharpe and well known McLaren Vale winemaker Ben Riggs. Was pleased with what I tried, four distinct varieties using South Australian and Tasmanian grapes to offer wines that are excellent value, easy to enjoy and that will no doubt have a good innings. - Ponting First Session Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc 2020 - Ponting The Mowbray Boy T...asmanian Pinot Noir 2019 - Ponting Close of Play Langhorne Creek Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 - Ponting The Pinnacle McLaren Vale Shiraz 2017 https://threekingswinemerchants.com.au/pages/ponting
20.01.2022 Sunday's Tri Nation Wine Tasting Results are in! New Zealand won 3-1 in what was a very close game with their offering - Te Mata Estate Cabernet Merlot, which pleased the crowd with its persistence, age-worthiness and excellent mid palate juiciness. The Chateau de Janicon Rouge Graves Bordeaux was a very worthy contender. Both wines and details about my upcoming wine masterclasses are available here: https://andrewcorrigan.com.au/course-details/

13.01.2022 Up early for another day of wine judging at the Cairns Show Wine Awards! This year i'm joined by fellow distinguished judges Geoff Alexander of Brown Brothers, Andrew Santarossa, Hamish Seabrook and Tony Hooper. A fixture on the Australian Wine Industry Calendar, the awards focus on wine style and quality which are especially important in the far north, with its strong tourism and hospitality industry.

11.01.2022 "After ten days of New Zealander hospitality, its time for MWs to hang up their boots. They tasted Chardonnay in Hawkes Bay, Syrah in Havelock North and Pinot Noir in Martinborough. There were presentations and wine tastings, vineyard wanders, lunches and dinners, and ferry rides between islands. And to top it all off, a private charter flight courtesy of Air New Zealand, carried 40 excited MWs over the Kaikoura coastline."

10.01.2022 Last Sunday we enjoyed a great discussion around Lees and wine. Lees is basically dead yeast cells created by the natural wine fermentation process (also in beer making). Generally it falls to the bottom of the barrell and the wine is transferred into oak or steel, but a lot of winemakers keep the lees in the wine for longer as leaving the lees with a white wine develops further flavours and adds body. Lees is usually added in the process of making white wine and of course, ...champagne, not generally in red wines (as red wine has enough dark fruits and tanins to give it body). To learn more about wine making, join our March Tasting series.
