25.01.2022 NDIS Plan Management and you. What is Plan Management? A Plan Manager is one option open to all NDIS participants or their representative, to manage the money they receive from the NDIS. It’s a bit like having a personal assistant to help with the financial administration the time-consuming detailed work that the participant would otherwise have to do. Using a Plan Manager means keeping the choice and flexibility of self-management in how funding is used, and being able to ...personally select providers of goods and services. Like our page to get updates around managing your NDIS plan. Advantages of Plan Management: Choice to pick supports and service providers not registered with the NDIS Someone else does the work No cost to the participant. What makes a good Plan Manager? Transparency, you the client should have full visibility of your expenditure and remaining budget. Choice, your plan manager should be able to work with any supplier you choose. Fast Payments, businesses you engage for your needs should be paid quickly and efficiently Separation of Administration from authorisation, the person authorising the payment should be separate from the person making the payment and neither of them should be the payee. NO Charge, under the NDIS there is no charge to the client for the management of their financial plan. Availability, you as the client should be able to contact your local plan manager readily and be able to rely on their advice. Security, your plan manager should have systems in place to ensure client’s funds and details are safe from hackers and malicious software. Budgetary experience, your plan manager should be able assist you with budgeting to ensure you get maximum benefit from your plan. Local representation with a strong dedicated back office. 25.01.2022 The NDIS is a new direction as it aims on assisting people towards control of their own destiny through a focus on the participants goals. This does however, mean that the process of goal setting and measurement is completed prior to completing a plan. Please have a look at this discussion by Ross McDonald of Capital Guardians on how to approach goal setting https://www.capitalguardians.com/2017/12/ndis-success/
22.01.2022 Planning for NDIS Success part 2, Creating a Life Plan; Goal Setting. A good life plan depends to a large extent on the individual’s ability to set goals. Goal setting is also the basis of your NDIS plan. So how to create effective goals that have clarity and focus? One technique is known as the SMART method of goal setting. SMART is an anagram outlining a road map for Goal Setting.... Specific: Specific, sensible and significant. Questions to ask: What do I want to accomplish? Why is the goal important? Who in involved? Where is it located? Which resources or limits are involved? Measurable: Meaningful, motivating and having some quantifiable objective or objectives. Questions to ask: How much? How many? How will I know when it is accomplished? Achievable: Agreed, attainable. Questions to ask: How can I accomplish this goal? Do I have control over this goal? What constraints need to be considered? Relevant: Reasonable, realistic and results based. Questions to ask: Is this goal worthwhile? Is this the right time? Does this goal match our other goals? Is this my goal or for someone else? Is it applicable in the current environment? Time bound: An end point for reaching the objective or objectives. Questions to ask: When? One month? Six month? Life of plan,12 months? The NDIS aims to give participants independence and control, which puts responsibility for goal setting on the shoulders of the individual. This is of course a framework and guide, it is up to the individual and their supports to use this framework to develop their own meaningful goals as they see fit. 06.01.2022 The Objectives of the NDIS and you. The NDIS while now rolled out in the Lake Macquarie area is still being fine tuned. To get the greatest benefit from the NDIS first we should understand the objectives of the NDIS. Objectives as outlined in the NDIS Act: Supporting the independence and social and economic participation of people with disability. Providing reasonable and necessary supports including early intervention supports for participants.... Enabling people with disability to exercise choice and control in the pursuit of their goals and the planning and delivery of their supports. Facilitating and development of a nationally consistent approach to the access to, and the planning and funding of, supports for people with disability. And Promoting the provision of high quality and innovative supports to people with disability. To understand and work with these objectives gives you the power to maximize the benefit you receive from the scheme. Integral to this are well defined goals and control over your funding through a robust and transparent payment system and easy to understand analysis of your spending. A professional Plan Manager such as Capital Guardians will also provide easy to understand budget vs spend information, a timely payment system and provide transparency over all transactions. 03.01.2022 A Plan Manager is one option open to all NDIS participants to manage the money they receive from the NDIS is to use. Plan Managers are often people with a financial background such as bookkeepers, accountants, or businesses who specialise in the area. It’s a bit like having a personal assistant to help with the financial administration the time-consuming detailed work that the participant would otherwise have to do. Using a Plan Manager means keeping the choice and flexibility of self-management in how funding is used, and being able to personally select providers of goods and services. 01.01.2022 Setting up for NDIS Success Part 1 Choice, control, empowerment and autonomy Setting up for NDIS success is done by choice, control, empowerment and autonomy and is the new standard when it comes to Australian government support to individuals in our community. With NDIS, it’s up to you! People with disabilities now have choice and control. Individually owned plans need to be created. This is a Life Plan.... The benefits of a Life Plan are enormous. It unites everyone in the care process, as it sets a future vision and delegates actions and roles to make that vision happen. NDIS Funding structure and methodology is around the vision and goals. Ownership of the vision matters Ownership of the vision must rest with the individual, and the structure and support around them to achieve the vision. A well-devised plan and vision will bring immense value to an individual’s wellbeing, and maximise the value of targeted funding. The NDIS is legally obliged to buy into visions that a defined disability needs financial help to sustain, they will also want to. A good plan will foster better outcomes for the individual in the long term and make the most of the funding and resources made available to them. Please like our page for Part two next month.
