25.01.2022 Giving the PreSonus Audio Electronics monitor station V2 and Genelec 8010 speakers a whirl, sounding pretty good to me.
25.01.2022 Later this week on The Pro Audio Suite we talk in ear monitors and the benefits for various applications. My chosen In Ear are from Audio-Technica Australia, the ATH-E50 which feature single balanced armature drivers. We also cover off a few issues you may have with In Ears and how to fix them.
25.01.2022 https://www.theproaudiosuite.com//episode//quick-bite-ssl2 The SSL 2 is here, and AP couldn't resist the temptation to get his hands on one and shelled out the cash. In this episode, we dive deep into SSL's foray into USB interfaces. And in our ears anyway, it's a winner.
22.01.2022 https://www.theproaudiosuite.com//steve-balbi-building-you Steve Balbi has been in the music biz for a long time and played at the highest level. Success in his homeland of Australia with 80s juggernaut 'Noiseworks', international success with 'The Electric Hippies' and now a new solo album that he recorded in his bedroom. All this led us to Steve and given the fact he's just completed the build of his first home studio, we had to catch up and talk about recording at home in general. Just wait till you hear how he devised himself an amp room.
22.01.2022 https://www.theproaudiosuite.com//mary-lynn-wissner-how-to This is part two of the interview with one of the biggest names in voice casting, Mary Lynn Wissner. In this episode we discuss the changes in the voice over industry that have happened over the last 30 years, AI, home studios, opinion v science, demos, the BS factor and what the business may look like post-Covid. This is one of our best episodes with a ton of insightful information from not just Mary Lynn but the whole crew.
22.01.2022 https://www.theproaudiosuite.com//recording-environment-v- This week's discussion came from an article posted questioning whether it was best to spend money on your recording environment (Acoustic Treatment etc) or just spend on some great noise reduction tools and worry about the artefacts after recording. Robbo and Robert put their perspective on it from an Audio Engineer's point of view, George has his own angle on it as the designer of many a great room and stacks and Andrew gives his insights as a voice actor with 40 odd years experience. As usual they head off in other directions discussing using figure 8, how remote recording helps the planet and are Robert and Andrew elitists?
21.01.2022 https://www.theproaudiosuite.com//one-of-the-5-men-in-a-li He's voiced the trailers for big-screen blockbusters like Jurassic Park, 1492, Braveheart, GoldenEye, The Lost World, Schindlers List, Independence Day, G.I. Jane, The Peacemaker, Tomorrow Never Dies, The Edge, Deep Impact, Snake Eyes, Small Soldiers, The World is Not Enough and hundreds more. And this week he's featuring on our humble program. Nick Tate is an Aussie actor who found that working behind the mic can be just as rewarding as being in front of the camera.
21.01.2022 https://www.theproaudiosuite.com//monitor-controllers-do-y AP's beloved "Big Knob" blew up this week and he's been trying out a bunch of replacements. But do you actually NEED a monitor controller in a Voice Over Studio? And if so, do you need to spend a months pay to get one? It's an episode well worth turning up (see what I did there??), and as usual there's a bunch of other tips and secrets along the way.
20.01.2022 https://www.theproaudiosuite.com//quickbyte-source-connect Source Connect is now the lifeline for most studios whether home or commercial. Whilst it's mostly simple to set up, there are a few snags that even the most seasoned audio professional can run into. In this episode, we explore the myths of port mapping, static IP addresses and bandwidth. Robert explains the basics and the more complex details of how Source Connect works.
20.01.2022 https://www.theproaudiosuite.com//binaural-audio-with-jeff On this episode, we talk with Jeff Silverman about 3D binaural audio and the song 'The Wall Will Fall' by Rick Springfield. Jeff has worked with Rick for the last 46 years and was asked to mix a 3D version of the song with all proceeds from the sale of the stereo and 3D Binaural mix being donated to FeedingAmerica.org. / @feedingamerica. 3D binaural is for headphones only, so plug them in for this episode and hear t...he difference in the stereo and 3D binaural mix. 19.01.2022 https://www.theproaudiosuite.com//quick-bite-everything-ap We gotta hand it to George Whittam, this discussion was his idea and it's a cracker episode. We invited two mad keen UA Apollo users onto the show to talk in detail about the entire range of UA's revered interfaces and the plugins they offer. Thanks go to Carson Beck and Beau Stephenson for their input on this one, The guys are glued on Apollo lovers and their insights are invaluable. We also discuss Antelope, Townsend, Slate and even RØDE. Look out for a full-on 'Everything Audio' chat with them next week including a dive into Luna.
19.01.2022 https://www.theproaudiosuite.com//quick-bite-in-ear-monito In-ear monitoring has been a common thread through many of our quick bites over the past few weeks, so this week we figured we'd deep dive into the subject. What are they? What's good about them? What are the drawbacks? Should you use them as a reference or purely for monitoring?... Hopefully, we'll equip you with a little more knowledge of what they might do for you especially if you're now working sessions via Source Connect. Audio-Technica Australia
19.01.2022 https://www.theproaudiosuite.com//studio-monitors-which-on Just like the speakers themselves, you don't want to be blowing your budget on overpriced, or oversized speakers for your home studio. So how do you know how much you should be spending, and what size is right for your space and needs? In this episode, we share some experiences with the monitors we are running and talk about some high end and lower end options along with a few stops in between. So no matter what you're doing, or what you have to spend, this episode is full of some thought-provoking info.
18.01.2022 https://www.theproaudiosuite.com//1c/the-great-u87-mystery The U87. No doubt it's a great Mic, but why do some agents and clients insist that talent get one for their home studio setup? There are many variables that can affect its performance and in this episode, (with the assistance of the great Bobby Owsinski) we debunk some myths and attempt to provide some sort of answer as to WHY some people believe this is the ONLY real VO mic.
15.01.2022 https://www.theproaudiosuite.com//waves-plugins-a-first-lo Gomez (AKA Michael Pearson-Adams or MPA) is the Director of Training and Development at Waves. An old friend of Robbo's (and the show) he's given us the first look at Waves latest offering, V12. It's an episode that turns into a WAVES Masterclass on some of their biggest and most popular sellers. With the entire panel wading in with their favourites and some inside scoops on uses and setups, you're bound to have a notepad full of new ideas from this episode.
14.01.2022 https://www.theproaudiosuite.com//smart-phone-microphones- After AP read a Facebook post regarding a client of a US radio station recording their commercial on an iPhone and sending it to the station to go to air, we convened a panel of Radio's big guns along with our regular "know it alls" to debate whether anything recorded on a phone and in a random environment should be deemed 'on air quality'. Thanks go to imaging guns Adam and Tom from Imaging Blueprint, legendary Imaging Producer and Station Voice Jeff Berlin and Atlanta's Rock 100.5 and 99x's Imaging voice and production guru Adam Schneider for their input on this one...
14.01.2022 https://www.theproaudiosuite.com//1fae79/desert-island-mic Not quite a 'Desert Island Mic' episode, but we take a look at mics in each category, Large/Small Diaphragm, Condenser, Ribbon and Shotgun, then we pick our favourites. If you're just setting up your home studio, or are thinking about having a cull of some of the Mics on your shelves, this is an episode not to be missed. You may be surprised by our conclusions.
14.01.2022 https://youtu.be/gOmE69vdg0E Last night I got a call from Italy checking availabilities for a session, within the hour we were online. I was connected to the studio in Milan via Source Connect Now, with the agency and clients all patched in to the studio via Zoom. No one had to travel to a studio except the audio engineer/producer, the booking and session were done in two hours, that's start to finish! Once Covid-19 is gone will this be the new normal? I certainly hope so an...d the planet will be happy too. Source Elements Audio-Technica Europe Audio-Technica Australia Audio-Technica USA See more
13.01.2022 https://www.theproaudiosuite.com//quick-bite-source-connec The race to get home studios connected over the web is on for some voice actors. It seems that soon the ONLY work available will be online, requiring some sort of remote connection. By far the most professional and widely used is Source Connect and it just so happens that one of the men responsible for its existence is also a member of our team. In this quick bite, Robert Marshall gives a beginner's guide to what S...ource Connect is, which version may be right for you and how to go about getting yourself set up. We also mention this video where our other team member, George 'The Tech' Whittam guides you through the setup of Source Connect and the iLok. You'll find that here.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kCDVG1btbzI&feature=youtu.be To Purchase Source connect or create an account for Source Connect now go here: https://source-elements.com/products/source-connect/versions and you can log into Source Connect Now here: https://now.source-elements.com/#!/
12.01.2022 Ignore the start, George sorts out the overlap.
12.01.2022 https://www.theproaudiosuite.com//carson-beck-and-beau-ste Carson Beck and Beau Stephenson are two hard-working voices out of LA with skills on both sides of the glass. Hot on the heels of their input last episode, we dive into their backgrounds, studio setups and views on the audio industry in general. We also take a look at UA's Luna and a lively chat about processing voice-overs. The discussion focused on 'should you process going in, in the mix or not at all'. There were some differences of opinion that's for sure.
12.01.2022 Andrew Peters VO finds a new favourite in Austrian Audio. Whilst Andrew Peters might not be a household name, if youve ever listened to the radio or watched TV... in Australia, youve almost definitely heard his voice. Andrew is an alumnus of world-class broadcast and an authority in the world of high-end voiceover work. "Whilst the quality of the performance is always the most important part of voice over work, capturing that performance in the best possible light is also critical. The OC818 is a perfect fit for this, as its very complimentary to the voice says Andrew. Read the full article: http://grouptechnologies.com.au//andrew-peters-finds-a-new
09.01.2022 If you're looking for a new monitor controller be careful, some seem like the best thing ever but may not be right for you. Over the last month or so I've tested a few and have come around to one I initially rejected. It's the Presonus Monitor Controller V2. My first impression was that it was a bit 'entry level' based on some preconceived ideas. The external power supply was the first thing, then being all TRS and no XLR and then being Presonus. The fact is none of these th...ings really matter and after using it for the last month or so I really like it. It's not a piece of gear you lust after but as a workhorse it's great. Switching is simple, have three ins and outs is perfect for phone patch etc, four headphone amps is more than you'll ever need and the talkback is excellent as you can cue send to all or individual headphones. Plus there's three speaker outs. I know these units are very popular and I now know why. Excellent value and a rock solid unit. PreSonus Audio Electronics See more
09.01.2022 First play with the Austrian Audio Polar Pilot, gotta say its great. Also perfect for animation sessions because you can -10db pad on the fly.

09.01.2022 https://www.theproaudiosuite.com//eat-your-way-to-better-c You know the feeling, you're feeling sluggish, you're on autopilot, just going through the motions trying to get it done and now that big audition you've been working towards drops into your inbox. Urrggghh What if there was a better way? What if when that audition arrived you were feeling fresh, invigorated and ready to really get creative.... Well, that's exactly what this week's guest, Michael Smith from Planet Naturopath can help you with. Greg runs a nutrition consulting business out of his home in Canada, helping people be at their best 24/7 simply through nutrition.

We're joined by Brisbane voice over veteran Sharyn Doolan as we dive into the subject, and come up with some fairly unanimous findings.
03.01.2022 If you need a way of recording voiceovers in lockdown this could tick all the boxes. Over the years I've worked on perfecting a simple solution and this is it. The RØDE Microphones NTG5 and AI-1, the Audio-Technica Australia ATH-E50 in ears and the Harlan Hogan Voice Over Essentials Porta Booth Pro. Add to the Twisted Wave and you're good to go, also once this pandemic is over you also have the perfect road case.
03.01.2022 Now we're all working remotely, studios need some reassurance that the connection and booth they are connecting with for a session is going to be fine. So I've just had my studio certified by Source Connect, now you can be assured that connecting with me will be just fine.
03.01.2022 https://www.theproaudiosuite.com//how-to-set-up-a-fast-pro We've been inundated with desperate VO talent looking to get set up to work from home during this outbreak. They either haven't had a setup until now or have only used it for audition and demo purposes and now want something more professional (but on a budget). In this episode, Robbo and Andrew explore the possibilities and give you a head start in setting up a professional yet cost-effective studio that you could have up and running by the end of the weekend.
02.01.2022 https://www.theproaudiosuite.com//29/austrian-audios-oc818 Engineered and manufactured in Austria, the OC818 is Austrian Audios premier, professional, large-diaphragm microphone. Its high sensitivity, low self-noise, and ability to handle everything from a whisper to extreme SPLs make it the most advanced microphone for studio, broadcast and live applications mainly due to the extra tech this mic offers. We got our hands on one and in this episode we test it out and play with the endless possibilities related with a dual capsule outputs and plugin, we also line it up with two classic mics featuring renowned and legendary capsules.
01.01.2022 Covid-19 has put pressure on many voice actors who now have to set up at home and be able to not just record their sessions but also use Source Connect for live sessions. The key is not to panic and rush into it, seek advice from people who have the knowledge and can guide you into making the right decisions. Over the week or so I've been looking at some voice over forums and I'm a little concerned about some of the questions being asked. I've also heard that some commercial ...studios are getting really angry with people who claim to have a pro studio and Source Connect when they don't. Source Connect Now and a USB mic is not a professional set up. This actually becomes an issue for talent who have made the investment, as distrust in home studios builds. I, along with my co-hosts of the Pro Audio Suite have been fielding questions and trying to help with as much information as we can. We have released podcasts that run through setting up a basic studio, to knowing what Source Connect is and what you need. https://www.theproaudiosuite.com/podcast
01.01.2022 https://www.theproaudiosuite.com//mary-lynn-wisner-how-to- In this episode, we are joined by one of the most experienced voice over casting directors on the planet, Mary Lynn Wissner. Mary Lynns career started as an actor working on camera but soon shifted to an agency working with the legendary Don Pitts. 30 years ago almost to the day, Mary Lynn set up her own business Voices Voice Casting which soon became the go-to for many major clients in commercial, film and animation. We cover a lot of ground in this interview from Orson Wells, casting pre-internet, audio quality to budgets and adlib.
