09.01.2022 This is what Daniel Andrews Said yesterday about golf returning When are asked about golf clubs and facilities at yesterday’s press conference, Daniel Andrews said: It is my view and my hope that we will be able to make a change to that in about three weeks’ time and then not have to further restrict that activity ever again. We will be able to make that change and lock it in. It’s just too early for us to do that now.... If you said, ‘ok, you can go and play but you can’t play any more than five kilometres away from home’, then we will finish up with large numbers of people compressed into a small number of courses, many of which are public golf courses that don’t necessarily have the staff and the ability I think to be able to manage that. You’re creating further opportunity for a large crowd to gather and that just doesn’t make sense. The two-hour limit would of course apply anyway. So I think it is much better rather than getting some very small, but quite complex and potentially dangerous things today, we wait for three weeks and then we can go back to something that’s very, very close to normal when it comes to those activities. That’s different though to activities that don’t require a particular facility (like fishing and hiking). So Obviously nobody in the government played a public golf course during previous stage 3 restrictions to see how things were run You couldn’t get a safer place
