24.01.2022 What a great saying especially when it comes to horses

23.01.2022 A TRUTHFUL LESSON POORLY RECEIVED - I received a scheduled phone conference call from a young, soon-to-be Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (Dvm) very early Sunda...y morning. Hes going to be graduating shortly and is currently near the top of his class at Colorado State. He had been referred to me by a highly respected equine veterinarian with whom Ive done a great deal of work. He told me about all the troubles he was having with his young horse thats just, "...been acting really stupid and mean towards me..." over the past month or so and he wanted me to help him "fix his horse". After listening to him go on and on for 30 uninterrupted minutes about all the problems with his horse, I let him *soak* in silence for about 45 seconds before he broke that silence and asked if I was "...still there...". I said, "Yes, I was just measuring your level of patience as I was sitting here THINK-ing after LISTENing to you. Now that I know what that is, we can speak." It would take too long to recite the entire two hour conversation I had but this is how it ended and I sure hope this helps ONE PERSON recognize that the real work we do with horses - is not on the horse at all. Its always the human. In effect, I told the young fellow that while Im certain hell graduate towards the top of his class and his good grades will reflect his efforts and one day, hell enjoy the benefits and privileges of being referred to as DOCTOR OF VETERINARY MEDICINE. Thats an inestimable title Ill sure never know. And I continued, "...While I KNOW your ears heard my words, you did not absorb them deep into your SOUL - you braced and blocked them. You are not allowing your HEART to beat with your HORSES HEART and you do not FEEL your horse in you GUT." "... Based upon your high level of resistance at looking at yourself as the cause of your horses behavior - based upon your level of bracing against virtually every "introspective thought and concept" I gave you about your own described behavior as perceived by your horse, coupled with your arrogance that is suppressing any hope of you developing EMPATHY towards how your horse - or any horse for that matter - perceives you, you will never in this lifetime, be able to be referred to by anyone as a *HORSEMAN*. Thats an inestimable title youll sure never earn." He hung up the phone - in exasperation I guess - since my directness seemed to conflict with his own self image and ego - I can only hope that the seeds I planted will take root, regardless of the poor soil in which they were placed. FOR THE GOOD OF THE HORSE, JWW.

23.01.2022 Always something to learn, you never know it all

20.01.2022 Don't Sell Your Saddle

20.01.2022 "Contrary to what is often said the horse is an intelligent being and just as sensitive to injustice as we humans are. People who call the horse a stupid animal... have never understood him. To them he is just an instrument. It goes without saying that among horses there are more or less intelligent ones just as among human beings. Every rider should bear this important fact in mind. Failure to do so could through some thoughtless action lead a horse in turn to regard man a silly creature. How lucky for most riders that horses have no gift for speech and cannot voice their grievances. If it were otherwise, riders would doubtless hear complaints of their thoughtlessness and lack of consideration and self-control. The face of a horse trained with psychological understanding does, however, express interest, confidence, contentment and even pride." 19.01.2022 Happy Birthday to all the horses out there but especially my main man Clancy and number two Dancer and to Thereses Tristen and Girlie oh how life would be miserable without them

19.01.2022 i often get people say to me when they see me riding in my western saddle, "oh you ride western do you?" I say "No i ride a horse." Alot of people think because someone rides in a western Saddle they cant do dressage. This is why i love Working Equitation because Me riding in my western saddle can compete against riders in dressage and fender saddles and we all do the same movements and are not judged because of the gear we ride in. Good training is where we can do all the movements such as a western spin if we want or a canter pirouette, do the lot, train for the lot and watch your horse be more flexible more willing and more versatile. Its good for their body and their mind.

18.01.2022 appropriate for these times, keep training people we will be back riding together again soon

18.01.2022 Some very good advice

18.01.2022 This is so Beautiful I had to Share <3

18.01.2022 Love this. How about you?

17.01.2022 I have known, and PREACHED this ALL my life. Taught to my students too. Finally, someone wrote an article and presented good photos. ORIGINAL POST BY: Runnin...g T Horsemanship, Dana Lovell We are big at teaching the "why" - this was too good not to share. It's the "little" things you do to help your horse that makes them happy and enjoy their time with you. Pulling your saddle pad up into the pommel. It can can take a bit of practice with saddle shifting and pad pulling, but your horse will appreciate it. Without being pulled up, when the saddle is cinched the pad presses down on the withers potentially causing discomfort. With the pad pulled up into the pommel the withers have room to move and there isn't a pressure point. If you aren't already in the habit of doing this the next time you ride put your fingers between the pad and your horses withers while walking or trotting. It's our job to make sure that they can comfortably carry us. This simple shift can help to make that happen.

15.01.2022 Motivational Monday morning-

10.01.2022 Somewhere behind the rider you've become, Is a riding school that gave you hours of fun. There is an instructor who pushed you, From that first lesson or hack..., And the pony who looked after you, The one that kept you on track. You grew up with these people, They saw you learn and succeed, They watched you nervously trot, To now galloping at speed. Now as you look back, And remember those days, Be grateful for the people, Who showed you the way. These people are heroes, But they don't ask for praise, Only that you take what they taught, For the rest of your days. Mount from the left, Lead that side too, The horse always comes first, Before you stop for a brew. So to the instructors, the grooms, And the office staff too, We want to say THANK YOU, For seeing us through. From lifting us on to the saddle, When we were so small, We'll never forget you, We owe you it all. #ABRS http://bit.ly/2QgSxNn

10.01.2022 I think every rider should print this out and put it on their refrigerator to remind them...

10.01.2022 and of course my Wife

08.01.2022 this is something we all need to get together on, just ridiculous we all pay to upkeep the park but wont be able to use it

07.01.2022 "Am I a good rider?" she asked, pensively, sat upon her 14.2 cob, covered in poo stains that she couldn’t quite get out before her lesson, that she had persuade...d her mum to buy a year ago for just 400 as he wasn’t wanted any more. "Why do you ask that?" her instructor replied, for she knew how this young girl felt - her eyes often lingered somewhere in between her horse's ears or the other side of the school when teaching. "Because I want to be one." Her instructor pondered on this for a good few minutes, whilst reassuring the nervous cob in front, and then said: "A good rider is not someone who buys flashy horses and competes every Saturday and makes it to the top within a year. A good rider is not someone who jumps the highest jumps or owns the fastest horse. A good rider isn’t made just because they’ve been riding since they were 3. A good rider is not someone who can move their forward horse forward... No.......... A good rider is that pony clubber you see fall off every time she gets on something new, yet still gets back on with a smile on her face. A good rider is that girl who cries in the tack room because of how her horse behaved and how hard it’s been to cope watching everyone else be successful, but to her it seems like she is the only one failing, yet still rewards her horse with a treat and a smile because at least he was better than last time. A good rider is the boy with the angel horse, yet doesn’t claim any of its successes for himself. 'It was all him,' he would say, 'I just sat to it.’ A good rider listens. A good rider is soft. A good rider makes sure the horse is always happy, As a matter of fact, a good rider often has nothing to do with the riding. If you love it, and you try, and you try again, even when you fall off and it was your fault, even when people point because your seat isn’t quite as deep as they’d prefer, if you never give up, that’s what makes a good rider." by Daisy Henderson
