25.01.2022 It never ceases to amaze me that people still try and get something for nothing, usually music or movies. They then get a virus and malware infection, and with the cost of me attending site to remove the infection, it would have been cheaper to buy the movie or music in the first place.
24.01.2022 Well Microsoft’s October update to Windows 10 has proved to be a bit of a disaster, it deleted all my files on my test laptop, not once, but four times! And I know of another two devices which suffered the same fate. We are not alone! The update has been pulled by Microsoft for further testing. My main device is a MacBook Pro, which has had no issues updating to the latest operating system, Mojave. It seems that it maybe time for everyone to consider an alternative to Windows. At the very least please make sure you have a back up, in two different places, as even backup drives can fail.
24.01.2022 Today brings another email hoax. If you get an email like the one below alleging to be from Apple asking to confirm your account, delete it!
23.01.2022 iOS 11 installed and tested. I can recommend the update.
22.01.2022 macOS High Sierra is now available. It runs really well, however the install on my Mac Pro froze! If you run into this issue, message me and I can help. The install on a Mac Air had no such issues.
20.01.2022 Well Microsofts October update to Windows 10 has proved to be a bit of a disaster, it deleted all my files on my test laptop, not once, but four times! And I know of another two devices which suffered the same fate. We are not alone! The update has been pulled by Microsoft for further testing. 19.01.2022 If you are going to replace your old Windows XP computer, then think carefully. In some places you can still buy a computer with Windows 7, but most only stock Windows 8. Consider this, with Windows 8 you will have 2 weeks of pain learning a new operating system (it IS that different), so why not buy an Apple Mac instead, you will still get the two weeks of pain, but you will end up with a far superior computer, and an enjoyable experience.
19.01.2022 A word about antivirus. You need virus protection whether you are using a PC or a MAC. However, you dont need to spend money to have a top quality antivirus programme. I recommend for Windows users Microsofts free Security Essentials, and for Apple users, Sophos free Mac Antivirus.
19.01.2022 Another email scam today, it claims to be from Microsoft, and is asking you to verify your Windows Live account details due to an unusual number of log in attempts. Again DO NOT click the link, just delete the email.
16.01.2022 If you are updating iTunes, be sure to either run "Apple Software Update" from your start menu, or go to Apples website. I have been to a few jobs recently where iTunes has been downloaded from somewhere else, and the users have wound up with a huge amount of Malware and grief. iTunes can be found on Apples website at www.apple.com/itunes/
16.01.2022 Here is the link to download Microsoft Security Essentials
13.01.2022 Beware of a new email scam going around. It allegedly comes from Telstra and advises that you have overpaid your bill. The email gives you a link to click on and claim a refund. DO NOT click on the link, my advice is to just delete the email.
13.01.2022 One of the problems of living on the coast, corroded hard drive and other connections in this PC!
11.01.2022 Apple held its 2018 WWDC last week, can wait to try iOS 12 and macOS Mojave, due later this year.
09.01.2022 Another email hoax, this time alleging to be form Microsoft regarding your Outlook account. Delete it!
09.01.2022 Support for Windows XP ends on April 8th 2014, so now is the time to upgrade your computer, laptop or operating system.
09.01.2022 For those of you who already have Windows 8 and dislike the Start Screen, try installing Classic Shell. The small app will give you a Windows 7 type Start Menu. click on the link below to go the Classic Shell website.
07.01.2022 Please be aware that there are some emails that are being sent out which look as though they are from Microsoft offering a free upgrade to Windows 10. The Email includes an attachment and when this attachment is opened it will encrypt all your important files and data. Its worth noting that Microsoft will never send out any emails or files to upgrade your PC.
06.01.2022 This afternoon I visited a new Customer, an elderly Gentleman that had been scammed by someone posing as Telstra. His bank accounts were cleared out to the tune of $10,000! This is the second call out I have had recently following a similar Telstra phone scammer who took $2,000 from another elderly Gentleman. I want to remind everyone that your ISP (internet service provider), be it Telstra or someone else, do NOT make calls. If you receive a call, hang up. The same applies t...o calls from someone saying they are from Microsoft or Apple, they also do NOT make calls. I cleaned and secured the Gentlemans PC, but unfortunately there is little chance of getting his money back.
