25.01.2022 Ink & Indi are 4year old litter mates, that Zander & I did some work with recently. Both have done a bit of training before and understand the method so we were able to do refresher work and add more skills to their arsenal all in one go. Ink is not a fan of other dogs and walking him has become nearly impossible. Indi has separation anxiety from her brother and turns everything into a big deal. Both learned that the drop stepaway is not negotiable, no matter the distraction..., and the same could be said for their boundaries. Mum & Dad and I had quite a good chat about what it is that goes on at home that makes them think that Ink is the king of the household - and the answer really was basically everything. 23.01.2022 Frenchie... is not a Frenchie lol. As you can see Frenchie is a very alert Beagle boy who is seriously testing the bounds of friendship at home, so Mum and Dad are ready to make some changes to get him to begin changing his way of thinking (and acting lol). He’ll feel the loss of his golden crown shortly as his parents are already onto the first challenges I set for them, and did a great job handling him. 21.01.2022 Hi Everyone, I hope that you are all well, and coping ok with our current status in Melbourne. I thought an update at this point might be warranted. Business Vic have confirmed that at this stage a Dog Trainer is NOT a permitted worker and therefore unable to resume operating. It looks as though we MAY be able to start work again from 19/10 but they can't guarantee that. So at this stage I'll be offering the first booking opportunities to those who already have a training pac...kage underway, then to those who had booked to get started but were unable to do so because of covid. If you have inquired recently I'll then be in contact to see if you wish to proceed with a booking. If anyone here hasn't previously made contact but wishes to inquire please drop a note in the comments or pm me and I'll add your details to my contact list for as soon as we know what can definitely happen. 21.01.2022 It's World Beard Day - Celebrated annually on the first Saturday in September it’s all about appreciation of beards! The beardless members of the family must show their support by waiting on the bearded hand and foot. Pretty sure this has somehow become a year-long celebration for us lol. 19.01.2022 Today we caught up with Oscar and his family, who have been doing an awesome job teaching Oscar some new rules and boundaries. Oscar is a very clever little fella and picked up a new command that we introduced today - drop and hold his drop under distraction - really easily, as well as not barging out the front door even if it stands wide open. 18.01.2022 Dakota (black) and Knox had their second lesson recently, and they provided me with quite the challenge. They are pretty good dogs but Dakota is super sulky about learning so we had to wrangle that from her, and at the same time figure out how to help Knox learn the things he needs to learn without any impact on his already restricted airways, and without letting him use his bulk to get out of learning. As you can see both ended up learning to drop, and Dakota even held a sh...ort drop stepaway (stay). Well done to their parents who helped them out really well. 12.01.2022 Bertie and Rocco had their second lesson with us recently. Both learned drop and drop stepaway (stay). Bertie gave a bit of resistance then did well but he’s done drop before, although in a different training method. Rocco was never able to drop before so he took a look more to get the idea, and was a little sulky about it. 10.01.2022 Zander and I caught up with Lulu the Pug for her second session, and whilst she isn’t a baby anymore she certainly hasn’t grown much since we saw her last. She is a super confident young lady but quite quick and ready to turn any situation to her advantage if she can. So her family needed some more guidance on getting her to listen more, and over rev less. Here’s she is holding her drop under distraction. 09.01.2022 To celebrate Jaffa's birthday yesterday everyone got to choose their own favourite selections from the surprise box we ordered recently from Cider and Basil. And if the day finished with a bath each (sadly it did) and lot's of brushing, that's only because everyone had fun in the mud. At least then cuddles are also added to the agenda.

09.01.2022 Mostly our walks are free walks - which means that as long as they walk without pulling they are free to sniff and explore along the way. However I want to know that if I ask them to listen or do something for me that they are ready, willing and capable. So this was taken during a recent walk when I wanted to take a few portraits of the boys (in spite of the shaggy, unkempt fur) and we switched over to video as some good distractions approached. 08.01.2022 Jaffa, Miki and Zander on our walk yesterday, nearly getting blown away, but we so don't care. Getting out into the fresh air is so appreciated. And this morning we were so happy to have an outing - to the vet lol. Miki got his health check, all clear, vaccination and heartworm test, also all clear, and got his anal glands squeezed, so he wasn't too thrilled about that. Sadly I wasn't able to be with him for that but the vet staff all kept their fingers attached so that's good. A nice improvement, even if not yet perfect.

08.01.2022 As the weather warms up (thankfully) and we start to be out and about a bit more (also thankfully) it's a good idea to keep a close eye on our dogs, checking them over, especially if they haven't yet been able to get to the groomer, and keeping a look out for these guys. Those of us in Melbourne have never really had to worry about ticks the way out northern friends do, but increasingly they are in our regions. So, can you put your dog into a drop and have them hold it whilst... you check them over? Do they tolerate your touch, your firm hold, your brushing or knot removal? If not, put them on their training equipment and work on your drop first, then your long drop (stay) and finally have them hold it under the distraction of you touching them all over. Can you say no and have them understand that you mean it when they wriggle, protest or bite the brush? If not then we need to work on them understanding that no is a serious word and not just a game. Don't wait until they need a serious groom, a wound tended to or a tick removed to find out that they need to be muzzled or sedated for that to occur. You can practice now.

Both dogs have done well with their obedience and some new household rules, so we added the next level of challenge for them. Both learned to drop on command and hold drop under low levels of distraction. Their humans will be able to work on them being able to hold position longer and gradually under more distraction.
