25.01.2022 My new range of Driftwood mouldings. Beautiful natural colours & textures in 2 sizes: 20 & 30mm widths.

25.01.2022 WOODEN WEDNESDAY FRAMES Most frames are made from moulding lengths of timber or aluminium. Others are handmade and some are even synthetic. The lengths are cut to measure and joined to create the frame for your item. We offer a great range of frames sourced from Australian and overseas manufacturers. Each one is cut, glued and joined by hand and we do not use any synthetic mouldings. A wide range of coloured, metallic and natural timbers are available in a huge range of w...idths & depths and a variety of shapes & styles. The profiles vary enormously and we will show you a range of options to assist you with making a great selection to suit your artwork, taste, budget & dcor. A frame provides protection, stability and decoration for your special item not to mention a stunning border! Here are a few of my frame styles & colours: See more

Stay tuned, keep warm and have a lovely weekend!

24.01.2022 CORONA VIRUS INFORMATION I am currently open for business but ask customers to be mindful of the following: Please do NOT visit our premises if you or anyone close to you has recently travelled anywhere overseas or are experiencing any flu-like symptoms (fever, sore throat, cough, fatigue, shortness of breath, runny or blocked nose etc.)... If you are dropping in without an appointment, I may ask you to wait for a short time before entering if I am attending to another customer. This will help to limit person-to-person contact and enable me to see one customer at a time, plus sanitise surfaces between customers. Thanks for you patience & understanding

24.01.2022 Its Fathers Day in just over 1 month! Got a print, poster or even a footy guernsey you would like to get framed for your dad? Have a look at some of my recents, and call or pop in for a quote or to arrange.

24.01.2022 MATBOARD MONDAY This is the thick coloured board that surrounds or forms a backdrop for an artwork. Matboards are not essential but can significantly compliment the artwork with colour, texture, size and depth. They also protect from condensation by preventing the art from touching the glazing. It is critical if you dont choose a matboard, that a spacer is inserted between the artwork and the glazing to prevent them touching. Matboards come in huge variety of colours and thi...cknesses with smooth or textured surfaces including finishes such as suede, silk, grasscloth and linen. Matboards can be cut with multiple openings, various grooves & patterns or layered to provide depth and other wonderful effects. We use mainly conservation grade matboards both under and above your artwork. These are not only acid-free but have also had the wood pulp (lignin) removed which further prevents acid build-up over time. Acid is extremely harmful to artworks and can cause long-term damage. Here are some examples of different matboard effects: 1. Bird print with blue & black double mat 2. Childs art with decorative v-groove 3. Individual watercolours different mat colours above & below 4. A suede mat adds a luxurious finish teaming well with royalty 5. Multiple windows in grasscloth complimenting African theme

24.01.2022 Got a canvas rolled up somewhere you've been meaning to get framed? They look great simply stretched, even better in a float frame or you can choose matboards as well. The possibilities are endless!

23.01.2022 Some better photos of this lovely Japanese patchwork panel stitched with gold thread. The owner has chosen a soft green matboard to blend with similar colours in the panel and a gold frame which will pick up the thread beautifully.

20.01.2022 THURSDAYS REFLECTION - GLAZING Glazing is a critical part of the framing package and the type you select can significantly affect the life of your framed item. Basic glass is the most common in ready-made frames purchased in shops or online. Basic glass protects your art from dust and scratches only. It does not protect from harmful UV rays or contain any anti-reflective properties. It is also generally thinner than a good quality framing glass. AF&D uses and recommends Tru ...Vue glasses and acrylics. These come in a range of options: Premium Clear with 45% UV protection a less expensive alternative for non-conservation items Ultra-View a new product with crystal clear colour enhancement, an invisible anti-reflective surface and high clarity (70% UV protection) Conservation Clear with 99% UV protection offering the maximum protection against fading and discolouration for your artwork Museum glass with 99% UV protection, non-reflective and optimum clarity Reflection-control glasses (the surface has a matte finish that scatters and diffuses light to reduce unwanted glare) come with the same UV protection options High quality acrylics are extremely shatter-proof and great for over-sized items where glass would be too heavy. They also come in a similar range of finishes and UV protection levels. Our most popular glazing choices are Premium & Conservation Clear. We can provide you with further information & brochures and will advise on how to care for the glazing on your framed item. See more

18.01.2022 RE-USING OLD FRAMES - These two old gentlemen were recently brought in for a re-fit. Both were given new mats, glass, backing & hangers and the frames were re-glued and cleaned. The first frame has a decorative gold slip around the window and a hand-painted gold bevel on the mat. The second is hand carved and a stunning rich mahogany colour. Dont you think these guys look pretty grand? Why not give a new lease of life to your ancestors!

16.01.2022 Got a canvas rolled up somewhere youve been meaning to get framed? They look great simply stretched, even better in a float frame or you can choose matboards as well. The possibilities are endless!

16.01.2022 FINISHING FRIDAY To complete the framing package, a rigid backing board is placed against the prepared item. This protects the artwork from moisture and any possible damage if knocked. We use acid-free or rag foam-boards or stiff conservation boards behind the artwork. We do not use masonite and rarely MDF as these products are highly acidic and can cause long-term damage whilst adding unnecessary weight. Each frame is sealed with tape to protect the contents from dust, insec...ts and temperature fluctuations. Felt bumpers are also placed on the bottom corners of the frame to protect your wall and allow air and condensation to circulate behind the back of the frame. We use quality plastic-coated hanging wire and if your piece requires special consideration for hanging, we will discuss this with you. We hope youve enjoyed our week of framing tips and information. You can find further information including how to care for your framed item on our website!

15.01.2022 TIE-DOWN TUESDAY Mounting or securing your artwork is an important part of the framing process. Items can be secured in various ways, some will protect and preserve, others will result in damage to the artwork. We use and recommend conservation-grade, reversible mounting methods for most artworks as this impacts on the artwork in the least possible way, preserving its integrity, providing support and allowing for expansion & contraction with temperature & humidity changes. Th...is also means the process can be undone if the item ever needs re-mounting/framing. Needleworks and memorabilia are also secured in a reversible manner with stainless steel pins, strong thread, acrylic supports or other inert products. Many items have been brought to me previously stuck down or stapled to a board of some sort. This board is often cheap matboard or MDF, both of which can cause serious acidic damage to an artwork and staples will often leave rust stains. We recognise that any item you bring in to have framed is special to you so will discuss the best preservation option in relation to your preference and budget. Here are some photos showing two different mounting techniques: 1. Item ready for mounting with conservation tape attached 2. Item secured to back of matboard 3. Ready for the frame or a top matboard 4. Securing to adhesive foamboard

15.01.2022 Just graduated? Congratulations! Preserve and proudly display your precious certificate for all to appreciate.

15.01.2022 EFFECTS OF LIGHT DAMAGE...... a customer brought me a new Heysen print to replace her 30 yr old original, framed with no glass, only a varnish coating. 01.01.2022 Love this job! Last week I had a trip down memory lane and finished framing 8 x Moody Blues albums for a big fan (yes records and all!). My customer then sent me a photo of them on display in his music room.

01.01.2022 Just finished this great photo of of Glenelg SANFL player, Jim Lihou. A little worn but much-loved, it has come up well with a blue suede mat cut with reverse bevel and a smart frame.

01.01.2022 To highlight this Roth etching I used a simple black frame with a thick matboard. Understated, and draws focus to the image. #framing #strathalbyn #adelaidehills
