25.01.2022 Good afternoon families and children! This week at OHSC was a warm one which meant lots of indoor activities and enjoying outside play in the morning. Children took part in board games, train track construction, painting, colouring, cooking, Twister, dress ups and building challenges. We also explored who could build the best tunnel in the Good Shepherd sandpit. Additionally we have enjoyed games of competitive cricket, once again a crowd favourite. We have also explored d...ifferent sensory experiences, including cloud dough, bubbles and wax painting. Next week you will begin to see some of our fantastic subtle changes, including a new and improved format for our weekly program, a parent information area as well as a morning and afternoon day book to showcase what we get up to each session. You will also find a new menu, which will be alternating in a four week cycle. Please remember to return or expect to receive your parent feedback form over the next few weeks. We value our families input and endeavour to provide a quality program based around the interests of your children and their needs. Thank you all for a great week, we hope you all have a relaxing, much cooler weekend! See you next week.

25.01.2022 Today we had an AMAZING DAY with an incursion called the Mobile Junk Playground. Thanks to Glenn for coming to us today and setting up a great environment to foster our imagination and creativity. The children thoughtfully and carefully worked together to create barrel races, forts, a birds haven and so much more. The children were given large branches, plastic drums, rope and old recycled materials to use and create. The only limit was their imagination and of course, care ...for themself and others. It was a great oppurtunity to increase their sense of autonomy, problem solving skills, proprioception, fine and gross motor, communication, team work skills and understanding of positivite relationships basically the list is endless for the great benefits. We are extremely proud of the children for the care and respect they showed for their peers, their environment and all of the tools\equipment that Glenn brought with him. The older children once again displayed a great deal of care, respect and patience with the younger visitors from the child care, helping them explore and create. What a fantastic day. We will see you tommorow for another excursion and some baking.

24.01.2022 Today the children led their own experience of a beauty salon showing creativity, team work, and developed persistence as well as there relationships with new and exisiting friends! The children created appointment books, vip cards for repeat members and followed their client’s requests. There was a massage station, nails, make up, hair and a foot spa.

21.01.2022 What a great two weeks we have had at Angaston Vacation Care. We have explored new places, tried out new skills and extended on existing skills. The children have fostered new relationships and welcomed in old friends we haven’t seen for awhile. We have explored our local community and strengthened our understanding of the world, visiting the bush gardens, having the local CFS visit, playing at the Angaston playground and visiting our friends at Angaston Child Care and Early ...Learning Centre. We ended the week with Pjyama Day raising funds and awareness for children in foster care. Today the children’s movie choice was Sonic the Hedgehog. We also worked on our building skills with Lego creations, having a more relaxed, child led end to the holidays. Thanks to all the families that brought in donations for Pjyama Day. It is greatly appreciated. Thanks to all the children who attended and families who supported our service these school holidays. We appreciate you all and can’t wait for next holidays to arrive. As Educators we are ending the holidays with a smile on our faces, proud of the growth, respect, leadership and enthusiasm the children showed us throughout our program. See some of you next week for OHSC

21.01.2022 Today we visited the Gawler Cinema and saw Cats and Dogs 3! We love supporting our local community and surrounding areas The children were very respectful and kind whilst out in community. We are very proud educators This afternoon we went to Eden for an obstacle course, testing out our physical abilities and competitive nature. To top off our afternoon we settled in with some sensory sand art. The children used their fine motor skills and use of precision and care to achieve a desired result.

13.01.2022 Another great day with our Vacation Care program. We headed off to the new playground in Angaston where the children explored the surrounds, going down the slide, playing on the climbing equipment, playing chasey and so much more. Once again the children got an opportunity to build upon their communication and team work skills as well as their balance, risk managment, proprioception, fine and gross motor to name a few. The sunshine topped off a beautiful morning. Once we ret...urned the children were out onto the oval to play marks up and practice their football skills, or inside building block towers. In the afternoon the children made cupcakes and enjoyed a nice cup of tea on the side. The baking allowed the children to further develop their understanding of measurement, ratios, fine motor skills and it got the children all discussing how to decorate their cakes. Some children even stating their cake was too good to eat. It was also a great oppurtunity for the children to try something new and go out of their comfort zone to try different types of tea. The tea party flourished conversations and help to strengthen the relationships of the children. HOW ARE WE ALMOST FINISHED HOLIDAYS ALREADY?? See you tomorrow for PJYAMA DAY to raise awareness and funds to support children in foster care Please don’t forget your gold coin donation.

This will restrict most traffic to the child care centre and our OSHC. The alternate route will be down Murray Street, right onto Jubilee Avenue and right onto Valley Road. If you require further information please contact [email protected]

10.01.2022 What a great week we have had at OHSC. The children have explored more clay creations, recreating their own pet or favourite animal. The children also created self portraits, practicing their drawing abilities, including pencil grip and control. We have also played musical chairs, working on our collaboration and communication skills. The children organised a person to keep a tally of wins, someone to pause the music and we had three judges to keep the game objective. As a ...group the children also gave a rule each that everyone must abide by. This gives the children autonomy over their space and extends on their awareness of fairness and teamwork. We also continued to explore our cooking skills and the children got the oppurtunity to write down their ideas for what they would like to cook. These included foods from cookies, lasagna to pasta bake and hot spuds with toppings. The children also continued to explore their interest in the doctors surgery, including more children. We will endeavour to extend upon this by bringing some more doctors equipment up to OHSC from childcare (all age appropriate). The children have been interested in construction and creating towers, exploring balance and problem solving skills to keep the tower standing. Some of our younger children felt the confidence to share their exercise skills with educators, creating strong connections and trust. For our STEM activity this week we created a mini catapult out of popsticks. The children used their creativity and trial and error skills to explore what would make the catapult move the Pom Pom’s further. Some techniques included more popsticks and rubber bands in different places and configurations. We then had a best out of three competition to see whose design moved the Pom Pom the furthest, well done to Aidan! His design won with 2/3 rounds. Our theme for our gratitude wall this week was, what are you grateful for at OHSC? Educators were mentioned for their care, the oppurtunity to play sport outside and the food and ability to cook were in the top 5 responses.

10.01.2022 This week the OSHC children have been busying creating and using their trial and error skills. We have created faces and bowls out of clay, marble runs out of p...laydough and also created our names using different drawing techniques. The children have continued to explore different recipes to make afternoon snacks and extend upon our life skills. Additionally we have taken part in a lot of role play from doctors to tea parties, extending the childrens imagination, communication and collaboration skills. We have continued to explore what we are grateful for, some children showing deep consideration by asking to do a second one, after a little more thought. Common answers are family, their friends, sleep, and surprisingly even homework. We have a number of students who come in and complete their homework morning and/or afternoon sessions with the assistance of educators when required. This morning, the students were practicing for their roles in the school choir. You will also see our new parent information area as you walk in, please feel free to take or look at any of the brochures provided. If you have any questions please feel free to ask our friendly staff. You will also see our new menu which will rotate on a four week cycle located on the main fridge. Additionally our new program format is displayed in the parent information area. Please remember to bring back you parent feedback form so we can promptly implement the changes or suggestions provided. Have a fabulous weekend.

08.01.2022 We would like to thank our parents for starting to bring back their feedback forms. We will begin making adjustments accordingly. We will endeavour to post the weekly activities on Facebook for both the morning and afternoon sessions. Please see below for the week ahead. You can also find this displayed in our new parent information area at OHSC.
