23.01.2022 This week in the Toddler room we had a library and buddy class visit at Good Shepherd Lutheran school. We joined with our buddys and enjoyed P.E with some throwing, rolling and catching of a ball. We then went on the playground at the school, our buddies helping us with climbing. This week we looked at the book All bodies are good bodies and talked about looking after our bodies and celebrating our similarities and differences. We painted using our new painting easel usin...g paint brushes and various colours of paint. Outside we collected, talked about and drew nature to incorporate our long term goal of Why is Nature Important? At song time we have some card fishes with songs written on the back, and each child gets to choose a fish and then we sing the song on the back of the fish. Outcome 1 Children have a strong sense of identity Outcome 2 children are connected with and contribute to their world Outcome 3 children have a strong sense of wellbeing Outcome 5 Children are effective communicators See more

23.01.2022 Some of the food our friends have been sampling this week. The Banana Rice Bubble Pops were a hit

22.01.2022 This week the preschool children were involved in many collaborative experiences. We worked as a group to each draw a picture of things we see in nature including butterflies and rain. We have been enjoying our new resources and discussed as a big group where we would like to keep our new cable reels. We also used them to create a big tower and discussed the concept of biggest to smallest. We continue to enjoy music with Jeff and he brought in a piece of grass which he created a sound we hear out in nature (bird). Jeff also played us his guitar, saxophone and we danced to the crocodile snap

21.01.2022 This week was lots of fun with Book Week. I dressed up as ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ to encourage children to be adventurous with food. I based some meals around popular books and I had a great time creating these. Next week is NAIDOC Week and another fun weekly menu consisting of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander traditional meals. I have attached a photo of the menu so families can can see what types of meals I’ll be creating.

20.01.2022 Our Christmas Hope Parcels were such a huge success last year. We helped many families and individuals in great need. We are doing it again this year and appreciate the wonderful generosity of all who contributed. Please see educators for a list of items recommended and a hope bag.

19.01.2022 This week in the under 2s room we made our very own very hungry caterpillars out of egg cartons. This allowed us to explore the very hungry caterpillar colours with paint and be creative. The children then glued eyes onto their caterpillars using their hand eye coordination skills. Our little friends have also been working on tummy time as they engage with reaching out for toys, exploring our very hungry caterpillar baby toy and sensory pillows. We have also had lots of time outdoors exploring the sandpit area and Garden of Jarjum. Links to our centre long term goal: why is nature important Outcome 2: Children are connected with and contribute to their world Outcome 4: Children are confident and involved learners

19.01.2022 This week in the Toddler room we had a teddy bears picnic and enjoyed some sunshine outside. We climbed on the obstacle course and rode on the bicycles. Inside we created a play gym using mats and the foam blocks to climb. Children put all their ideas together in our toddler room to make a shop. We discussed what type of shop we wanted to make and the children all agreed to making a pet shop. We made pretend play money and turned some boxes into pet food boxes to sell. The ch...ildren found a toy cash register to use and a shopping bag. To create a sense of belonging in the room the toddlers traced around their hands and have created a welcome to the Toddler room poster on our room door. We have also been talking about our feelings and we have a feelings wall with faces with different feelings. The Educators have lanyards with visual pictures of faces to help children identify different feelings they are feeling. In the corner of the room we have a new relaxation area. A cube with a cushion where the children can relax and have quiet time. Outcome 1: Children have a strong sense of identity Outcome 3: Children have a strong sense of wellbeing Outcome 4: Children are confident and involved learners Outcome 5: Children are effective communicators See more

18.01.2022 The Preschool children have been busy using their prior knowledge and resourcefulness as they continue to role play Doctors and use bandages to treat peoples injuries on their legs and arms. On Wednesday we were excited, engaged and expressed ourselves through The Arts (music) as Jeff and his band played their trumpets and saxophones for us. We eagerly sat there and listened to the band and we also used movement to express ourselves through dancing. We continue to talk about ...why Nature is important to us and have been watering and checking on our vegetable and garden beds. We eagerly await for the vegetables to come to fruition. Milly and the team also experienced the sensory experience of using our hands to describe and identify the texture of particular items. Some of the childrens voice has been; the rope has a fluffy bit, it is spiky and soft and the pine cone is rough and spiky. See more

In addition to this, the children have shown innovation in terms of creating their own form of chasey using the two playgrounds and safe areas as logs. The children have also been spending a lot of time outside experimenting with their physical abilities such as pulling themselves up on the monkey bars, the flying fox ...and practicing their kicking with the soccer ball and learning some gymnastics. We also welcomed Casey and Rani as part of the OHSC team. The Vacation Care Program is now up on display so have a look or ask for a copy. We are super excited for the inclusion of some incursions and excursions now that restrictions have eased, rest assured we are still following appropriate protocols and implementing safety measures. Please also have a look at our weekly book, explaining what the children have been up to both in the morning and afternoon. See you all next week, for some more exploration and learning. We are curious, confident and involved as the children noticed the colours of their clothes and formed the sign to match it. Children have learnt this very quickly and are showing their families how to sign a rainbow. We have noticed our vegetables in Jarjum have began to grow. We continue to observe the leaves on the plants and wonder how much longer it w...ill be until we can eat them. We have also had a busy week creating a space shop using loose parts such as pipes, cable reels and stairs. Children used their critical thinking and designed their masterpiece. Our involvement with Good Shepherd Lutheran School continues as we have been enjoying our buddy class visits. 11.01.2022 Just a friendly reminder to our families to please email the centre if you will be taking leave for the school holidays.

11.01.2022 There is a love for campfires in the preschool room and many children have been recalling their own experiences of campfires when they have been camping. On Wednesday we were able to experience a real campfire in Jarjum with the help from the Nuriootpa CFS. This was especially exciting to share with our friends at the centre and from OSHC. We continue to design and think of new ways we can use our cable reels. This week we have used them for towers and for motor cars. Music...al instruments have been brought out as an extension from the childrens interest in performing concerts and dancing. The children have been enjoying this experience, listening to the different instrument sounds and practicing to keep a beat by tapping or shaking. 2.4.5 children show growing appreciation and care for natural and constructed environments 3.2.10 children show increasing independence and competence in personal hygiene, care and safety for themselves and others 5.1.5 children contribute their ideas and experiences in play, small and large group discussions 1.2.2 children are open to new discoveries 3.2.7 children manipulate equipment and manage tools with increasing competence and skill. 4.3.3 children make connections between experiences, concepts and processes. 11.01.2022 This week in the preschool room we have been busy once again in Jarjum. The children ask quite regularly to spend time out there and it is a rich environment for learning through their play. This week we have planted flowers in the garden beds hanging on the wall, our friends had asked for some flowers to plant last week and we worked collaboratively to place the soil in and gently plant the flowers to not damage the roots. The children are most excited to watch our plants gr...ow and having been checking to see if our vegetables have - hopefully soon! We have made labels for our gardens to show where our veggies are growing. We have taken some time this week to talk about diversity, in line with National Reconciliation Week, and how everyone has differences and similarities. We noticed things like our hair and eye colour, and the colour clothes we wore and it wonderful to see them focusing on the similarities we had. Milly spoke how it is important to show kindness to everyone, no matter who they are, what they look like or where they come from because we all deserve to have people show us kindness, so we should too. On Wednesday, our preschool friends decided to put on a concert for the whole Centre. Everyone contributed in a way by either placing out chairs, writing a welcome note, welcoming our guests or singing in the concert. Our preschool friends decided to do we are one, wash your face in orange juice and taba naba. It was lovely to see children from Toddlers and Under 2s joining in by singing and dancing. We also have spent majority of our days outside in the beautiful weather! The children have been engaging in bike riding, playing hide and seek, climbing, making creek beds and cubby houses.

10.01.2022 What a beautiful experience the Preschool Room got to share with one another and our OSHC friends. Prior to having our campfire, the children have engaged in extensive risk assessments on how we could ensure our safety around the campfire. We have had many discussions together and the children have drawn illustrations of their safety ideas while the campfire is going, including how we could put the fire out with water or sand when we are finished, the educators toast the mars...hmallows, and that we should have a barrier around the campfire that the children cannot cross. We also had the Nuriootpa CFS visit prior to starting our campfire to discuss how they are people in our community here to offer support when we need it. They gave us a tour of their fire truck and the children were delighted to have a turn using the hose to squirt water! Our Preschool friends waited patiently for their toasted sugar free marshmallow, which were a delicious treat, and enjoyed the company of all around the warmth of the campfire 1.1.9 children confidently explore and engage with social and physical environments through relationships and play 2.1.10 children demonstrate a sense of belonging and comfort in their environments 2.4.5 children show growing appreciation and care for natural and constructed environments 3.2.10 children show increasing independence and competence in personal hygiene, care and safety for themselves and others 5.1.5 children contribute their ideas and experiences in play, small and large group discussions 5.4.4 children develop an understanding that symbols are a powerful means of communication and that thoughts and concepts can be represented through them

10.01.2022 This week in the under 2s room has been very busy! On Wednesday our older children that have been transitioning into the toddler room, had an excursion with the toddlers over at the oval with Glenn from Mobile Junk and Nature Playground. This was a beautiful opportunity to come together and explore a different natural environment close by to our centre. Outcome 2 children are connected with and contribute to their world Outcome 4 Children are confident and involved learners Outcome 5 Children are effective communicators Links to our centre long term goals: 1: Why is nature important? 3: Connection to community

10.01.2022 Friday the 13th November 2020 is floral Friday. Wear your florals to celebrate NAIDOC week at Angaston Early Learning Centre.

09.01.2022 Our preschool community have been taking advantage of the lovely spring weather. Aidan, Xavier, Hannah, Ezrela and Bridie were exploring their outdoor environment and noticed a caterpillar. The children investigated the caterpillar using magnifying glasses and inspected it up close up. We took notice of its legs, eyes and the different colours on its skin. Our literacy focus has been on name writing and reading flash cards. The children have been talking about the words wit...h educators as Daisy picked up the flash card and said toys... like in toy story. We have also discussed handwashing and why it’s important to wet our hands, use soap, get in between our fingers and rinse and dry. Austin said we have to wash all the germs away with soap. This has extended into washing our toys to keep our environment clean and tidy. It has been wonderful to observe the children develop ownership for their learning environments and caring for our resources. Outcome 4: Children are confident and involved learners. 2.4.5 children show appreciation and care for natural and constructed environments. 3.2.10 children show increasing independence and competence in personal hygiene, care and safety for themselves and others. 09.01.2022 In the under 2 room. We have been using our self help skills to feed ourselves healthy food of our choice at meal times, naming food that we are eating through the use of language. We explored a very big leaf that an educator found! We couldnt believe its size. An educator held up the leaf and asked the children what is it? One child replied a flower!! And ran over to have a closer look at the leaf. One of our little friends has been working on strengthening his muscles... through tummy time, he is very quick at moving around to reach toys. Getting stronger. We played with toys that allowed us to use our fine motor skills, we looked at some new books together. This one particular book encourages us to identify colours, explore sense of touch and promotes creativity. Outcome 3: Children have a strong sense of wellbeing Outcome 4: Children are confident and involved learners Outcome 5: Children are effective communicators

09.01.2022 This week in toddlers we got to explore the outdoors. Balancing, climbing, moving sand and using loose parts in the sandpit to manipulate, change and build things. We played doctors in role play and read the book All bodies are good bodies to talk about staying healthy and diversity. On Wednesday we had our very own teddy bears picnic and pyjama day! The Children were given the opportunity to talk about their teddy bears with their peers, and we had a teddy bear story and ...picnic under the tree with the under 2s and preschoolers. On Thursday we visited the Good Shepherd Lutheran School library and got to do some play with our school buddies. We put magnets together, played with LEGO and created pictures on felt boards. Outcome 2 children are connected and contribute to their world Outcome 3 Children have a strong sense of wellbeing Outcome 4 Children are confident and involved learners Outcome 5 Children are effective communicators See more

08.01.2022 How wonderful does our new flooring look? We are getting very excited to our reopening.

08.01.2022 This week Under 2s & Over 2s came together in the under 2s outdoor area to freely explore our natural environment. This links back to our two centre long term goals: Why is nature important? Connection to community

08.01.2022 In the preschool room. We have enjoyed our week constructing with blocks and using our critical thinking to form inclines with our long blocks onto a platform. We have been collaborating as a team, to form a bridge using our smaller blocks to reach over the masking tape river. Our Indigenous focus this week has been on the Aboriginal symbols and creating them in sand. On Wednesday we were fortunate to have the Junk Yard Playground visit and we were able to move, imagine, tran...sform and collaborate as a team. Thursday, the children were given the task of building a bridge that reached over the masking tape river using mega blocks. A great STEM activity to think, investigate and problem solve how they were going to achieve the goal. They also chose to work in teams when they found it difficult to create the bridge on their own. Today we have been excited about National Pyjama Day and have been engaging in sociodramatic play outside and in the sandpit. 2.1.2:Children cooperate with others and negotiate roles and relationships in play episodes and group experiences. 4.3.7 Children transfer knowledge from one setting to another 4.3.4 Children use the processes of play, reflection and investigation to solve problems.

07.01.2022 The citizens in our Preschool room embraced the true history of our country as we celebrated NAIDOC week. The teachings around NAIDOC week included discussions around the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people; who were Australia’s first peoples on this land. The children proudly displayed their work in our room for parents and carers to see. We explored visual art as Michelle brought in boomerangs and the children traced around the boomerangs and created their collage...s using yellow, red and black. We also used scissors to cut red, yellow and black cardboard and created collages. The children learnt to notice visual detail on their page. Milly showed us a clip of some dances from the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. Together, we set up a stage in Jarjum and used musical instruments to dance. Kratos said "why do they have paint on their chest and face?" On Wednesday we created a Remembrance Day wreath. As a whole centre we did a minutes silence to pay our respect. The children took this seriously and all children engaged in this experience by listening and not talking. During the week we tasted some yummy bush tucker as Saara made us Kangaroo stew. The children enjoyed eating it and were observed making Wombat Stew in the great outdoors. Today we participated in a NAIDOC excursion as we travelled to the Nuriootpa Bush Gardens and listened to a Dreamtime Story called "The Cunning Crow." This story is about how the birds got their beautiful colours and why the crow is still black today. We also explored the Nature Garden and children took notice of their environment. Sofia said "I liked seeing the big, big, big tree... it would be about 300 years old." The children are demonstrating many dispositions for lifelong learning as they are growing their awareness of the distinct cultural histories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. 06.01.2022 As you all know our centre experienced a severe flood due to a burst pipe which resulted in great upheaval for everybody. Whilst we are currently having repairs and renovations undertaken, the children and families are our primary concern. We managed to negotiate continuity of care for our children and families with the regulatory authority, and with the help and support of our wonderful colleagues Stepping Stone. We thank you for being patient throughout this time, and we ...will keep you updated with our reopening of our beautiful refurbished centre. Thank you for your continued support. We would also like to pay tribute to our amazing educators. Attached are some photographs of what we have been working with over the past two weeks. See more

06.01.2022 This week we have celebrated achievements as one of our little friends has build up muscle strength and has worked out how to crawl. Another friend has started pulling themselves up getting ready for walking. The children have been cooking in the home corner using cooking utensils. Educators decided to extend on the childrens interests of looking after baby dolls through setting up an experience for the children to bath baby dolls together. We will follow on with extending interests and encouraging our little friends to strengthen their legs through bouncing in the bouncer and building core muscle strength through tummy time. Outcome 2:Children are connected with and contribute to their world Outcome 3: Children have a strong sense of wellbeing Outcome 4: Children are confident and involved learners

06.01.2022 This week we celebrated the festive season with a bbq for families. Toddlers were part of the Welcome to Country and sang inanay an Indigenous lullaby. Creating and moulding green play dough and using different resources such as pipe cleaners and feathers was a great way to use our creativity and ideas. Exploring light and shadows has been our short term goal in our room and we have looked through kaleidoscopes and drawn shadows of toy animals using the afternoon sunshine that streams through the window. Outcome 4 Children are confident and involved learners Outcome 2 Children are connected and contribute to their world

06.01.2022 In the under 2s room we have been focusing on The Very Hungry Caterpillar. At group time we read the very hungry caterpillar story with props together we talked about colours, numbers, words and the butterfly life cycle. The children enjoyed having a turn of playing with the props and compared the props to the story. We then followed on from the story reading where is the very hungry caterpillar book and exploring sequencing cards that explain the story line, the children whe...re engaged in this activity so much that they wanted to rearrange them in order repetitively in a line. We will continue to explore the very hungry caterpillar as our topic of focus. We decided to explore mud through play, the children got sandpit buckets and shovels to scoop the mud up into the buckets. One child said messy, messy! As he dropped some mud onto his clothes and another laughed and smiled as she mixed the mud with water. Our little friends have shown us that they can hold their own bottles! Using their self help skills to feed themselves. Links to our centre long term goal: Why is nature important? 05.01.2022 In the Preschool Room this week we have been role playing Vets as an extension from our Doctor play. Our friends have been taking care of toy animals, which they invented different back stories on how they sustained injuries, such as the poor crocodile who had a broken heart, ear and scratches after being hit. The children showed compassion and gentleness in handling the toys, treating them as if they were alive. Thankfully all the animals made healthy recoveries! As a concl...usion for our Doctor play, the children on Monday have drawn a picture of how Doctors take care of us. We have created new watering cans to use on our vegetable patch and flower garden from repurposing milk bottles. Several friends used a hammer and nail to punch several holes into the lids and others wrote watering can on the bottles so we can distinguish them. We tested out the watering cans, but we found the water was slow in pouring out, so the children have decided we need to add some more holes to solve this problem. If you have any 2L or 3L milk bottles at home with lids we would gladly love to have them to make some more! Our friends have loved having play dough back as an activity. 01.01.2022 National Science Week has been an exciting week for the Preshool Room as we engaged in sensory exploration, colour mixing and other experiments. Firstly, we created rain clouds as we filled the cup up with water and used shaving cream to create a cloud on the top of the water. We dropped food colouring into the cloud and watched the food colouring (rain) fall down into the water to create a rain effect. The children watched intently and Bridie said its raining that much ...and Xavier excitedly said it is getting darker... mine has rained. We also engaged in a rainbow inspired experiment using skittles and warm water. Kratos made a prediction about what he thought might happen when the water is poured onto the skittles it will turn into a rainbow. The children watched the colours mix together and drew their interpretation about what they observed. We also participated in a cutting experience and used our fine motor skills to follow the line on the paper. See more

01.01.2022 The Preschool room has had a fun filled week as we held our own Pyjama Day and Teddy Bear Picnic. Children sat outside, pretended to feed their Teddys and enjoyed listening to a story from Suzy. On Thursday, we shared a story with the Good Shepherd Lutheran School as we listened to a story, played games and drew a picture with our buddies. We also engaged in a squishy painting experience that teaches the concept symmetry. This was achieved as we painted one side of the paper..., folded the piece of paper in half and opened it up again. We have been busy discussing healthy and sometimes food and used the catalogues to cut out food, stick on the chart and categorise the options. Our interest of ice cream and shops continues as we have been role playing an ice cream shop and selling ice creams. We have been discussing the different flavours to sell. Outcome 3.2 children take increasing responsibility for their own health and wellbeing. 4.2.1 children apply a wide variety of thinking strategies to engage with situations and solve problems. 2.1: children develop a sense of belonging to groups and communities and an understanding of the reciprocal rights and responsibilities necessary for active community participation.
