21.01.2022 Working on Veggie Patch vegetables Today one friend and I worked on the veggie patch, digging over the soil, removing curling grubs (they eat the roots of our plants ), adding organic matter, putting a new layer of mulch on and we finished off by giving it a big water. We now need to add some more veggies to the patch to go with the snow peas that are already growing. We think we might put in some tomatoes and cucumbers .

16.01.2022 Packing boxes Today we have been busy packing up our toys and resources as tomorrow is moving day! Over the last few weeks we have been discussing how we will have a new playroom and yard to play in. We have discussed how the furniture and resources will be packed into a truck and taken to the new house. Involving the children in the packing process assists them in understanding the concept of moving as it can be quite difficult to comprehend if they haven’t moved house themselves.

12.01.2022 Noodles This afternoon two little chefs worked together to make ‘noodles’ to take home for dinner. We didn’t really follow a recipe, instead we added things they like to eat like bacon , mushrooms , capsicum , onion , cheese and tomato . There was lots of chopping to be done and our ‘kiddycutter’ knives are the perfect knives to use as they are safety knives that can’t cut skin, but cut through vegetables easily. They were impressed with their noodles, although apparently we needed to add a bit more cheese on the top and luckily they agreed they would share with their mum and dad!

11.01.2022 Today is Early Childhood Educators’ Day and I have been spoilt by some of my lovely families with not one, but two beautiful bunches of flowers. I also received a care package from my supervisor with a magnet reminding of the importance of self care, a voucher for a coffee and a sneaky chocolate! I’m feeling very loved and appreciated. I really enjoy spending my days with my little friends, seeing them learn and grow and days like this make it even more special.

08.01.2022 Today marks five years since I began my Family Day Care business! I definitely believe in the saying Time flies when you’re having fun! as I can’t believe it’s been five years already. A big thank you to those families who allow me to be part of their children’s lives in their early years, it’s a privilege to spend time with them each week.

07.01.2022 New Magnetic Tiles One of our favourite toys to play with are magnetic tiles, so today one little friend was very excited to unpack a new set to add to our collection. The tiles allow children to build and create many different structures and today these two created a boat, car park, a tower and a maze. Being an open ended resource means there is no correct way to build with the tiles and the children can problem solve as they trial different ways to build.

06.01.2022 Meatballs for dinner I’m not sure what everyone had for dinner, but I had some very yummy meatballs and pasta that this little friend helped to make. While making the meatballs we discussed how grating a carrot is much harder than grating a zucchini, how we need to be careful not to leave eggshells in the mixture and that pepper can make you sneeze! I have been enjoying spending time cooking with the children, so much learning takes place while we do and they are very proud to take home and share what they have made with their family.
