24.01.2022 Politics, COVID, Climate Change! The Apocalpse! But apocalypse speaks of ‘uncovering’ or revelation. God is revealed and we are invited to be watchful and ready to meet God daily and always. So Mathew’s Parable of the ten bridesmaids. But in essence, Mathew's message is: ‘Having the status of being Christian, even being a light bearer, means nothing if it is not a continuing part of our being. Matthew is interested in enabling people to live in a relationship with God which has continuing significance and continuing life.’ (William Loader)

23.01.2022 On of the most misunderstood and misused texts in the bible is Matthew 22:21, Give therefore to the emperor the things that are the emperor’s, and to God the things that are God’s. It is not about the separation of church and state, which is the context in which it is most often misquoted. The text poses the question, "Whose image do we bear?"

22.01.2022 Why do some groups of people refuse to wear masks, as occurred at President Trump’s ‘superspreader’ event? Science and psychology show that people tend to copy one another. The question of who we imitate has significant consequences. If we are to mimic God, we must decide: is God ultimately prepared to use violence or instead an unrelenting source of love? Fr Chris

22.01.2022 A shout out to Chief Ministers and State Premiers working to keep us safe during COVID-19, resisting pressure to put the economy before us, the people. We cannot imagine the complexity of this, or the burdens you carry on behalf of us all. We send you our deepest appreciation! Fr Rod and all @ APG

21.01.2022 The King James version of the Bible is published in 1611 and is clearly written, at least in part, to uphold the concept of the divine right of kings and that is how it was read by the Christians of the 17th Centaury. Thomas Aquinas often refers to the dictum: Quidquid recipitur ad modum recipientis recipitur. Whatever is received is received according to the manner of the receiver. It’s way past time for us to start reading the bible according to the ‘manner of Jesus’ r...Continue reading

18.01.2022 To Premier Daniel Andrews, Professor Brett Sutton, their families and teams, and every Victorian who dedicated themselves to the greater good by enduring lockdown ... We say thank you. Words can not convey our admiration, or the esteem we hold you all in. You have made sacrifices we cannot imagine for your state and nation ... people are alive today ... and many more will be, because of your selflessness. If we have ever pondered 'What would I do to save a life, even one?' Y...ou have lived that answer; because each and every one of your direct actions means others will now live. We acknowledge and remember that people have died, and send our deepest condolences to those who love and miss them. May they Rest In Peace. It would be remiss not to mention the extraordinarily courageous and dedicated leadership from Premier Andrews and CHO Sutton ... you have exemplified that we are a society first, allowing us a taste of this all too rare expression of humanity in contemporary political and corporate life ...having tasted it we recognise our desire and thirst for it. So ... especially on this day Victoria ... while we understand many of you may still be struggling, we wish you a beautiful experience of life in whatever expression that may take for you. May you go forth (carefully :)) and enjoy your freedom! You are all truly heroes. Fr Rod

18.01.2022 We commemorate the centenary of the Celtic Cross Memorial at Gosford Anglican Church. Many thanks to Merill Jackson for the Poppy Project for this amazing instillation for Remembrance Day. The memorial was instigated by the then Rector of Gosford, the Reverend Arthur Renwick MA. oxon. ... The thirty helmets in the instillation represent the local men killed in the Great War whose names appear on the memorial. A devastating number for such a small village. Part of Father Renwick's job was to inform families that their sons had died. In 1916 Renwick was offered a significant promotion but declined the invitation saying "I cannot leave my poor people". Lest we forget. More photos: www.gosfordanglican.org.au https://www.facebook.com/poppyprojectcentralcoast/

16.01.2022 I put this sign up last weekend paying tribute to the late Helen Reddy. This message was left on the office answering machine. With all due respect to Helen Reddy it is not difficult to hear the roar of women over the pathetic whimpering of some men. (need sound on)

15.01.2022 The majority of Australians want meaningful and urgent action to mitigate global warming, not 'gas-led' or 'creative accounting' climate action. We thank @zalisteggall for the incredible work of the Climate Change Bill that she will introduce into parliament today. We give this bill our wholehearted support. The election of Joe Biden has moved the pieces on the climate chess board. Scott Morrison & Anthony Albanese take note. Fail to listen at electoral peril. The people want climate action. The people want zero emissions. #climateactnow Fr Rod

06.01.2022 The Politics of agape love: Jesus names the love God and love other human beings as the heart of faith and its practice. In this homily I tell the story from the novel Apeirogon by Irish author Colum McAnn about Rami and Bassam. "Truly to love God is to love the neighbor; truly to love the neighbour is to love God. (cf. 1 John 4:20-21)." https://youtu.be/EuWoX23kb2s
