15.01.2022 Forest Fire Management Victoria has begun a series of planned burns in the Anglesea Heath to protect the health of this unique ecosystem. The Anglesea Heath is... home to approximately a quarter of Victorias plant species, and more than 100 species of orchid. Heath thrives on exposure to fire to regenerate and renew, and parts of the Anglesea Heath havent been exposed to fire since Ash Wednesday. FFMVic crews are undertaking the series of planned burns in the heath over two months, covering more than 340 hectares. Through what is known as mosaic burning, this approach will create a diverse range of habitat to support the areas variety of plants and wildlife. All activity complies with DHHS requirements and prioritises the safety of the community as well as staff and contractors. To find out when and where planned burns are happening near you go to www.vic.gov.au/plannedburns or call 1800 226 226.

14.01.2022 Have you cleaned out your woodheater yet? Last night I lit up my fire for the first time. But first we had to clean out the flue. This is what came out. This is just last winters burn. This can cause chimney fires if left to build up. We also found a lot of burnt soot on the top of the cowl. Its not only woodheaters that I stress about, its also gas heaters. Please get it serviced by a professional as Carbon Monoxide is a silent killer. You dont smell a gas smell or see an...y fumes it just sneaks up on you and is deadly. Also split systems, please regularly clean your filters. Dust can build up very quickly. Do this before it gets colder and for peace of mind. Regards Anglesea Fire Brigade

09.01.2022 Smoke will be visible from Anglesea, Aireys Inlet and Wensleydale as Forest Fire Management Victoria carries out planned burning in the Anglesea Heath today. Cr...ews are conducting a 60 hectare operation near Gum Flats Road and Bald Hills Road. As the Anglesea Heath thrives on exposure to fire to regenerate and renew, the planned burning will help protect the unique ecosystem. We encourage those who are sensitive to smoke to remain indoors and keep windows closed until the smoke passes. We understand that smoke from planned burns may cause concern. Under the current public health advice, our planned burning program can continue for now. If that advice changes, we will make any adjustments necessary, in consultation with Victorian Department of Health and Human Services, Environment Protection Authority Victoria, CFA (Country Fire Authority), Fire Rescue Victoria and Emergency Management Victoria. Our crews are adhering to appropriate physical distancing and hygiene requirements to ensure we can safely continue operations across the state. To find out when and where planned burns are happening near you go to vic.gov.au/plannedburns or call 1800 226 226.

03.01.2022 "Cup Long Weekend 2020" Residents urged to take care burning off As temperatures begin to heat up, CFA has urged residents in the state’s South West to take extreme care when burning off. Anglesea Brigade reminds residents:... - The Surf Coast Shire allows Burn-offs within township boundaries only on Wednesdays and Saturdays between the hours of 10am-3pm at this time of year. - Check the local weather conditions on the day as well as coming days. do not burn if wind exceeds 10 kph (light breeze and rustles leaves on trees) or temperature exceeds 32C. - Always register your burn-off by calling 1800 668 511 Even if you have registered your burn, conditions can change quickly and fires can get out of control within minutes in hot and windy conditions, Captain Noel Foster cautions. We’re reminding people to always register their burn-offs so we know what is happening in the area, and can avoid brigades being responded unnecessarily if a member of the public calls about smoke or a fire in the area, he said. He added that people should never leave a burn-off unattended as it’s the resident’s responsibility to ensure that it does not get out of control. If a burn-off does get out of control, call ‘000’ immediately. People should have a fire plan and prepare for the event of fire, and never be complacent. Keep your burn-off safe and legal: Check fire restrictions with your local council and register your burn on 1800 668 511 Check and monitor weather conditions particularly wind To avoid unnecessary calls to emergency services, notify your neighbours beforehand Leave a three-metre fire break, free from flammable materials around the burn Have sufficient equipment and water to stop the fire spreading Never leave a burn-off unattended stay for its entire duration If your burn-off gets out of control, call ‘000’ immediately For more information about burning off, go to cfa.vic.gov.au/burnoff and https://www.surfcoast.vic.gov.au//Burning-off-and-fire-res

02.01.2022 All went very well today with the fuel reduction burn at Fraser Ave. Fire Crews will continue to monitor and patrol the fire ground overnight and throughout the weekend. Members of the public are not permitted to walk, run or mountain bike through the clearly marked boundaries due to the dangers of fire and the potential for falling trees and limbs. It was very disappointing to hear that all crews including Anglesea CFA who work hard to look after and protect our community were challenged many times today when they asked members of the public to refrain from the above activities on the fire ground. Can we please show respect for these guys and girls by letting them focus on the work they do and staying away from the area during the burn. Thank you

02.01.2022 Did you know that, on average, there are 3,000 house fires in Victoria each year. Most could be prevented by taking simple precautions. Information on house fire safety and how to prepare your home is available at www.cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-prepare/fires-in-the-home Portable fire extinguishers and fire blankets can save lives and property by putting out or containing fires. We recommend them as inexpensive, easy to use and readily available safety additions to your home.

01.01.2022 Dear residents, as of yesterday CFA made the decision to suspend all non emergency activities including brigade training, meetings and community engagement activities until further notice due to the current situation with the COVID-19 Coronavirus. Rest assured, we will still be responding to all emergency calls as per normal. This step was taken to limit potential exposure to our members. Our aim is to keep our members healthy so we can maintain an operational response to ou...r community when and if required. If anybody needs to contact the brigade please use electronic means as we wont be at the station on Tuesday nights as we usually would be. If you are in the unfortunate situation that you need to call the brigade to your property and you have a suspected or confirmed case of Coronavirus or are in self isolation please inform the 000 operator and advise us ASAP on our arrival. If you call for our assistance we will still be there as required. Thank you for your understanding.
