17.01.2022 Perfect planning - even the conditions are behaving It’s a great outlook for Wednesday’s swim across The Rip for the @aslsc teams! Air temperature (21 degrees), water temperature (20 degrees), a gentle south-south easterly wind (at 15-20 kmh or 8-11 knots) and a 1m swell. This all means we can anticipate almost perfect conditions well into the afternoon for our planned swim.... #openwaterswimming #theripswim @aslsc @honaninsurance @lifesavingvic @destinationsurfcoast @the_rip_queenscliff_lonny @visitgeelongbellarine

17.01.2022 Amble To Addis 2021 Take Two Wednesday 6th January 2021 The walk will leave at 9am from the bottom of the ramp below the surf club. Low tide is 11.22am so the walk will go up the cliff on the surf coast track first, touch Point Addis and then return along the beach under the spectacular cliffs on the low tide. ... Those walking on the beach must stick close to the waters edge as the cliffs are very unstable. Donations on the day or online to the Jane McGrath Foundation via this fundraising page. https://fundraise.mcgrathfoundation.com.au/fundra/janehorne Wear your pink gear All family members & dogs are welcome. you can also turn around at anytime. It is about a 13km round trip with a slow steep incline up the track on the way back. The walk takes about three hours so dress accordingly depending on the weather and bring water, husbands, partners, friends, kids, dogs and whatever else you need for a fun coastal walk. The walk will finish back at the ASLSC at approx 12pm for some refreshments at The Kiosk for those who can stay. For more details contact Jane Horne or Trina Porter. #greatcause

12.01.2022 The Kiosk - Main Beach! Summer is just around the corner and Anglesea SLSC is excited to announce the imminent opening of the club’s COVID-safe and flexible pop-up kiosk called ‘The Kiosk Main Beach’. The Kiosk Main Beach is a summer pop-up in response to our selected food and beverage partner requesting a delay to the opening of their dining venue and kiosk. This decision has been driven by the completion of construction works so close to summer, the uncertainty and compl...exities associated with the impact of Coronavirus in Victoria and the need for the club to close the old wing of our wider facility after summer including the Ray Marsh Room to complete mandated works to bring that older wing of our club up to the same level of compliance with today's building code. From Friday December 4, locals and visitors to our slice of Surf Coast heaven will be able to grab a coffee, quench their thirst and satisfy hungry appetites at our new takeaway facility in the revamped Ray Marsh Room. The Kiosk Main Beach will be open from 7am to 3pm initially Friday, Saturday & Sunday serving light breakfast and lunch. From December 27th The Kiosk will be open 7 days a week with last orders being taken around 8pm. Into the evening, The Kiosk Main Beach will run alongside the club’s new Jimpy’s Bar, which will operate on the top floor of the clubhouse in the spectacular John Worrell Room. Jimpy’s Bar will be open to members, guests and the community, with members and social pass holders receiving discounted prices. Come Summer there will be no better view in town. The concept for Jimpy’s Bar has already been warmly received by the surf club membership, but we are still seeking volunteers to join Jimpy’s Bar Crew for the 2020-21 season. We are seeking expressions of interest from members over the age of 18 who are prepared to become part of Jimpy’s bar crew on a rostered basis for a few nights over Summer. Those volunteering need no prior hospitality experience, but are required to hold a current Responsible Service of Alcohol Certificate, which can now be completed online in a course that takes a few hours. If you are interested in helping please contact the Club by the end of November via email [email protected] to express your interest. This will allow us to continue assembling rosters and to communicate opening hours. Please email your existing RSA Certificate or one gained on completion of your short course to [email protected] by December 14. We stress Jimpy’s Bar won’t get off the ground without enough support from members both behind and in front of our new bar. Please get involved.

09.01.2022 COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENT!!!! There is a Hooded Plover chick on the beach between the two sets of steps near 12th Avenue at Roadnight. The chicks can’t fly for five weeks so are very vulnerable. The Hooded Plover is a threatened species so it’s really important all dog walkers avoid this area as sadly a chick was killed by two labradors in the same place last summer when it was three weeks old. It's also important people don’t stop and stare or get close as this stresses out... the parent birds and can lead to the chick starving. There is a temporary dog exclusion zone between 97 and 98 West steps as BirdLife Australia has found this gives the chicks a much better chance of survival. Las summer three chicks made it through between Aireys and Moggs but it is a very long time since we have had a Hooded Plover chick survive until it can fly at Anglesea. Please pass on this information as much as you can and let’s hope this gorgeous little one makes it. Photo is of the chick at three days old with its parents staying close to protect it.

03.01.2022 Important Announcement! Life Saving Victoria is urging people to take water safety seriously following a spate of fatal drownings along the Victorian coast yesterday afternoon. As you may have already seen, three people drowned in three separate incidents, and another three needed to be resuscitated along our coastline.... This brings the number of drowning deaths in Victoria since 1 July 2020 to 38, superseding the previous financial year’s total of 34. That’s an average of more than one fatal drowning each week. Even one drowning is one too many, so these figures are truly heart breaking. We want people to be able to enjoy our beautiful waterways, but you need to do it safely. Wherever possible, swim between the red and yellow flags at patrolled beaches and during patrolled times, always supervise kids and never underestimate the potential risks around water. Thank you to our incredible crews and our emergency services partners @victoriapolice, @ambulancevic and @emergencymanagementvic who assisted with these incidents. Our thoughts and condolences are with everyone affected by these tragic incidents. #weworkasone #watersafety #drowningprevention #beachsafety #beachsafetyawareness
