19.01.2022 Packing household effects into boxes: You should work to a principle when packing household effects, i.e. ‘If it will fit into a cardboard box then put it in a cardboard box’. Use good quality removal cartons or similar if possible. Start by placing cushioning material (crushed paper or bubble plastic etc) in the bottom of the box then, as you fill the carton with your items, fill all empty spaces with the cushioning material. If an item can't move it is less likely to break.... Pack heavy items at the bottom and light or fragile items at the top. Wrap plates and dishes etc separately and pack them on their edges (NOT flat). Number each carton as you go and make a separate written list of those numbers. You should then record the contents of each carton beside each number. Don't record the contents of a carton on the outside of the carton as that may make certain cartons a target for thieves. Finally, (a common question) no you really shouldn't pack the kids in boxes and load them with the furniture. See more

13.01.2022 Loading a shipping container: Loading a shipping container is a lot like packing a cardboard box. Heavy things should be placed on the bottom and light or fragile things should be on top. Minimise gaps and empty spaces. Empty spaces may allow movement and any movement can lead to damage. If the container will not be completely filled, cover the entire floor area so as to avoid slippage. Void areas between the top of the load and the roof of the container are no problem. Befor...e you load your container think about what you will need immediately on arrival at the destination and load those things last so that then are available as soon as you arrive, i.e. mattresses and the fridge. Place small items that you will need immediately on arrival in a clearly marked box and load it last. Those small items may include the kettle, tea bags/coffee/snacks, children’s toys, TV remote, bed legs etc. If you are moving to a new climate, a change of clothes to suit that climate. Put the key to the pad lock on the container on your key ring. See more

11.01.2022 We are still operating during this difficult time and still supplying shipping containers to our customers for self load / self unload removals. The coronavirus is frightening everyone and that, along with the current State border restrictions, has understandably caused many of our customers to postpone their plans to move house. ***The fact is however, that permanently moving house is considered to be essential travel, so you can still move house.... Although you must comply with the laws and restrictions that apply to crossing some State borders at the moment, with our self load / self unload shipping container service, that is your only inconvenience. If you self load and self unload a shipping container rather than using a removalist, you virtually eliminate the risk of coming into contact with other people who may be infected with the virus. Restrictions will continue to apply at some State borders for a long while and it is very important that you make yourself aware of those restrictions before you travel. I will therefore post another article soon outlining the various border restrictions that apply to each State border. That article is intended as a guide only though. Each State is constantly reviewing and adjusting their border rules so please double check with the authorities in the State that you are moving to before you travel. Ed
