10.01.2022 A Statement of the Board of Gafcon Australia - Appellate Tribunal Matters November 2020 "The sheep follow (me) because they know (my) voice I have come that they may have life and have it to the full. John 10:4, 10. "Gafcon Australia exists to promote the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ through the Anglican Church of Australia. We are convinced that the fullness of life that only Jesus gives is experienced through hearing, trusting and obeying his word of grace and life, in... the power of his Spirit and the fellowship of his people. For this reason, the Board of Gafcon Australia expresses its deep regret that the recent majority opinion of the Appellate Tribunal of the Anglican Church of Australia relies upon a disputed definition of the meaning of ‘doctrine’ rather than on a whole-hearted and glad embrace of the life-giving Word of God. In doing so, they have seriously undermined the basis of national unity in our church. We regard their conclusions as erroneous and unconvincing." See more

02.01.2022 The Appellate Tribunal determinations were handed down yesterday (11/11/20) with regards to the questions of the Wangaratta blessing service and Newcastle Discipline. There is much to prayerfully consider in these matters. The full reports can be found here https://anglican.org.au//appellate-tribunal-determinations/ These matters before the Appellate Tribunal have been a topic of discussion at our own Diocesan Council and recent Synod. Our Diocese made a submission with re...gards to the Wangaratta matter in December 2019 which can be found here: https://anglican.org.au//ap/appellate-tribunal-reference1/ In light of the Wangaratta matter: At our recent Synod (October 2020) a motion was passed which states that this Synod (Diocese of Rockhampton) "affirms the current Anglican Church of Australia’s stance on marriage/blessing of marriages, according to the constitution of the Anglican Church of Australia and the 39 Articles, which recognises marriage as being between a Man & a Woman. Wangaratta determination: The 123 page determination in summary states that the Wangaratta service of blessing of peoples married in accordance with the Marriage Act (including Same Sex Marriages) is not inconsistent with the Fundamental Declarations and Ruling Principals of the Constitution of the Church. The Newcastle Determination: The 34 page determination in summary says that the Synod of Newcastle has the authority to amend its own diocesan clergy disciplinary regime in relation to clergy who bless or are party to a same-sex marriage. What this means now in practice is basically because the determination is that the Wangaratta service is not contrary to the constitution, then any clergy person can use the Wangaratta service unless their Bishop rules that it is not reverend or edifying. Most Bishops are at this point asking for restraint until after General Synod in 2021. Psalm 133 come to mind ... "How good and pleasant it is when God's people live together in unity". Deep meditation and prayer, together with gentle tongues, generous hearts and an abundance of grace will be required as the impact of this determination is felt and debated across the Australian Church. Lord, help us to be a national and local church that loves each other deeply in accordance with your word. Amen.
